Justice League: Legacies (Setting)

Postby Bombaatu » Tue Jul 05, 2011 8:54 am

This thread is for settings details on my Justice League: Legacies PBP game.

Premise: The year is 2011. The Justice League of America had its heyday back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, but those heroes have died, disappeared or retired. A threat has arisen that requires a new generation of heroes to take up their mantle.

Fates: Below are the fates of the “classic” JL members.

Superman – in 1992, Superman sacrificed himself to stop the killing machine known as “Doomsday”. Superman is buried in Metropolis’ Centennial Park, which bears a memorial in his honor.

Batman - No one knows what became of the Batman. He vanished approximately 10 years ago, as did the Joker. Rumors flew that they had finally killed each other but no one knows for sure. In his absence, crime in Gotham rose dramatically. The "Bat-Family" kept the peace for a while, but eventually they were overwhelmed. Nightwing returned to Bludhaven, Batgirl hung up the cowl, and no one knows what became of young Robin.

Wonder Woman – following the death of Queen Hippolyta at the hands of Hades, Princess Diana returned to Themyscira to assume the throne.

The Flash – Barry Allen suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury in a fight with Gorilla Grodd and lost the use of his limbs. He is now confined to a motorized wheelchair.

Green Lantern – Hal Jordan was slain by Sinestro while defending the Central Power Battery on Oa. To honor his courage, the Guardians decreed that from now on, at least one Green Lantern of Sector 2814 will be from Earth. As yet, Hal's ring has not chosen its successor. John Stewart is handling Sector 2814 on his own, but his hands are full.

Aquaman – Following the death of his son at the hands of Black Manta, King Orin has foresworn the surface world and has gone into a self-imposed exile from Atlantis. Several losses at sea have been attributed to him but thus far nothing has been proven. Queen Mera rules in his stead, but Prince Orm is challenging her right to the throne.

Martian Manhunter – In an effort to fully understand humanity, J’onn J’onzz opened his mind… and nearly lost it. The experience forced him to withdraw from humanity. He now resides full-time on the abandoned Watchtower satellite, keeping a lonely vigil.

Locations

Image

New York City - in this campaign, the landmass of Staten Island belongs to the state of New Jersey and is not counted as one of NYC's Burroughs. NYC is comprised of three boroughs: Manhattan, Queens & The Bronx.

Gotham City, NJ - seated upon the landmass of real-world Staten Island.

Metropolis, NY - in the location of Brooklyn.

Personages:

James Olsen, Photo-journalist
Image

Now married and in his mid-30s, James has become a well-respected photo-journalist for the Daily Planet. He no longer goes by "Jimmy" (except from some very old friends) as he feels he wasn't taken seriously by that name.

Lois Lane-Kent, Editor, Daily Planet
Image

Following Perry White's death, Lois Lane-Kent became the editor of the Daily Planet. Her husband Clark was killed during the Doomsday rampage 18 years ago - she has never remarried.

General Sam Lane, US Army
Image

General Lane is very distrustful of the reappearance of heroes - he vividly remembers the Doomsday rampage that cost him his son-in-law Clark and the pain it caused his daughter.

Police Commissioner Jim Gordon
Image

In the ten years since Batman disappeared, Jim Gordon has been fighting against an ever-increasing tide of crime. He desperately hopes the resurgence of heroes will bring a much-needed replacement for the Dark Knight to Gotham.
