Chat room feature

Another thing that might be a nice addition is a chat room area. Might be nice to swat ideas in real time to the various players as well as have an area for chat based gaming or for the pbp people to use chat to advance particular points in their games.

Don't know if that's really necessary to have on-site. We could just pick an IRC server and open a channel.

Yeah that would be cool to have an IRC channel. People could talk comics, game, run games and what-not. I think the IRC channels even have a dice rolling feature so that might really bring gamers together.

The real issue here is that ATT is run by forum software, first, foremost and only. It's possible to hack it up a bit with custom modules and such, but most of the recent posts in the Suggestion Box are asking ATT to be something quite a bit more than just a forum.

That's not bad, it's just that 1) phpBB3 isn't the right software for that, and 2) re-implementing ATT in something like Drupal or Django or some other framework would be about as much effort for GR as producing a new 64-page supplement. Given the current economic climate, I sincerely doubt GR would bother unless there were a significant financial benefit to doing so, and it's very, very difficult to quantify exactly how much additional revenue running a customer forum brings in to a company, much less how much more might come in if their web presence was completely overhauled.

And to top it all off, SassyRonin is not only the IT guy for ATT and all of GR's web sites and all of their internal computer stuff, he also pulls double duty editing books for them and other side jobs as well. It's a small company, lacking manpower.
