Re: Misfit Studios product updates

No reviews as yet that I'm aware of (I've sent copies to reviewers, but none have followed through) and no bundled copies because none of my current storefronts allow for it. I could summarize what's in it for you, if you like, but any judgment call I give you on its quality would certainly be biased. :D

I'll be happy to review it for you if reviewers get copies...

What? No go? *sigh*

Ok, hit me with a biased report if you have a chance.

Some things I'm very curious to see. Basic M&M makes MA just bundles of Feats. There is the optional rule about Weapon Elements, which I like in principle (I come from a HERO background) but then you are simply left paying more points for MA Feats then you would have if you'd simply bought the feats without calling them a style with out real justification. Mecha and Manga tackle it a bit with Stances, but that doesn't totally work for me for various reasons.

So how does this book deal with those issues? Does it tackle them?

Any info would be appreciated!

Well, to summarize in brief, yes it tackles them. Styles are MUCH more than just feats in MMA. Basic and advanced maneuvers have been made using the powers (most frequently Strike, obviously), stances have been handled differently (each style has a different combination of new stances, such as grappler), and there's a LOT of new feats, drawbacks, etc. to suit the martial arts genre. Everything is presented in a way that allows for easy customization and creation of your own styles. I've also added a layer of requisites to the styles to illustrate how one progresses through them, although this is loose enough to still allow a great degree of customized progression. Topping the book off is a section of new combat rules that can be used or left alone as you like, depending on how deeply you want to delve into the martial arts genre.

I will say this much about MMA if you put into your game make it a big part to the point where other bits of the campaign world fit with this. The tome itself is freaking massive and if you combine this with the core book you have enough material to run more than a few campaign with just those two components. When and if I plan on using this in a campaign, Martial Arts will take center stage with other super powers fitting in around it. And it can handle and it even encourages this.

I've pressed my playtesters for the compilation proofread. I'm now also hard at work on the next DCA assignment, so that will slow down things coming after that.

For those interested, I have written a review of Metahuman Martial Arts and put it up on RPG.Net.

Do-Gooders and Daredevils very recently arrived and again there is material that expands the minutia of the game. Great ideas in there especially for creating the kinds of costumes and vehicles with "extras" you see in the comics. It was worth the wait for print version. Great stuff as always, Mr. Trustrum.

Glad you're enjoying it. I assume the Pack will be showing up in your game :)

If I can get a game together, definitely. Although most of the canine characters I create myself are PL 10-15. I may combine some of what I saw for costume write-ups with MMA for something resembling some of the more recent Hollywood depictions of a certain DC holding that projects himself as a werebat to a werewolf style and themed character.

Any further news on the Metahuman Magic book? Either 2e or 3e.

Yeah, I have been waiting for the Metahuman Magic book, too. Preferably 3rd Edition.
The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.

Just about every kid today wants to be Batman, Spiderman, or Superman. Maybe if we were better parents they would not want to become orphans.

Me too. Also the bestiary book. However they come out, I'll buy them. If I have to do conversions it'll just give me a better grasp of the system.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

I don't mind converting myself, I have a fairly good idea as to what got changed and how to convert.

Sorry for not popping by to say anything for such a long time.

Everything is still in the works but has been slowed to a crawl by a number of things that have seen Misfit Studios overall put on a back burner for the moment, not the least of which is preparing to get married next month. I expect to be able to put a LOT more of my time back into Misfit Studios once I'm hitched. The first step will be converting over the more important 2e content, starting with Better Mousetrap, our main rules supplement.
