Species Name: Gucorean
Other Names:

Home Planet: Gucor
Home System:

Physiology: Gucoreans vary a greatly in height; the smallest adults are may only be 5 or 6 feet tall while the largest may be 16 or 18 feet. These humanoids stoop when they walk, sometimes seeming to form a near 90 degree angle at the waist. Gucoreans are muscular, though occasionally very fat, with huge hands and feet with nails they sometimes file into claws. Gucoreans have large beak-shaped noses and thin lipped mouths. Eyes tend to be off by human standards, either too narrow or too wide-set, too glassy or too piercing.

Gucoreans are descended from a fungi-like organism, and still share some basic biological similarities with it despite the Gucorean bipedal form and omnivorous diet. They can regenerate damaged tissue, including reattaching severed limbs.

Gucoreans have no hair, but all foster a collection of plants across the top of their head down their back. Mosses or vines may cascade down the sides of a Gucorean's face acting like hair. These plants and mushrooms establish roots into the Gucorean's regenerative and nutrient rich flesh, and in return they purify and oxygenate the Gucorean's blood.

Gucoreans can enter a natural hibernation, and sleep for years at a time. They do this during times where food is scarce, when fighting disease or poison, or when recovering from injury. It is not unheard of for a slumbering Gucorean to have so many plants maturing in their back that those observing it are unable to tell that there is a creature under the greenery.

Culture: There are no Gucorean cities, governments, or businesses. They tend to live alone or in small groups, and frequently live in caves or burrows.

They are vicious and use their brute strength to secure shelter, food, and power. Completely carnivorous, Gucoreans are not picky eaters and will consume carrion or fresh kills, small animals or sentient beings.

Species Name: Pylons
Other Names: Crystals

Home Planet: Absalom
Home System:

Physiology: A Pylon looks like a perfectly symmetrical crystal is a shape similar to natural quartz prism. They may range in size from a mere 6 inches in length to several stories long. They vary in color, but are always have a milky, translucent appearance. By all observations, a Pylon looks just like a normal perfectly shaped crystal, but are, in fact, sentient.

Pylons have a measure of psychic ability, and glow and vibrate while they are communicating with others. Some Pylons have been installed into machines that interpret and translate these vibrations into speech, but most rely on this psychic ability. All Pylons can communicate with a creature it is touching, some may speak telepathically at a distance, and a rare few can exhibit forceful mind reading or even mind control.

Much about Pylon physiology, however, is a mystery to other races.

Culture: Like much else about Pylons, their culture is largely mysterious. They have been suspected of manipulating others to achieve their own goals, but these goals can vary greatly between Pylons.

Species Name: Ursian
Other Names:

Home Planet:
Home System:

Physiology: Resembling Earth bears in many ways, the Ursians are fierce combatants. Their heads are nearly identical to that of a bear, though they are capable of articulated speech. Smell is their best sense and they are covered in fur. This comes in a range of color from white, to grey, to steel blue, to black.

Their large paws have wicked looking claws but are remarkably deft at fine manipulation in the way humans are. Ursians generally walk on their hind legs, but if they have lost their weapons or are required to move at high speeds they may run on all fours.

Full grown male Ursians may top over 7 feet and a half, and even female Ursians nearly always exceed 6 feet tall.

Culture: Ursians are a clan based race, with numerous houses ruling across their homeworld. Each clan tends to specialize in the types of weapon they train with. Ursians attempt to maintain neutrality in regards to other planets, but their barren planet makes trade with others a necessity.

Ursians determine leadership through weaponless fights, sometimes to the death. While not unintelligent, they have little use for the sciences or the arts and focus all schooling on survival, smithing, and battle.

Species Name: Forbatian
Other Names:

Home Planet: Forbat
Home System:

Physiology: At birth a Forbatian looks like a beige featureless grub. These creatures are immensely flexible and resilient, and consume food through osmosis. As these infant Forbatians grow they develop limbs and a distinguished head and grow in size similar to humans. By early childhood the Forbatians’ form-shifting abilities manifest, allowing the child to mimic the appearance of those around them. By adolescence Forbatians settle on an appearance that becomes fixed, though this appearance can be similar to any humanoid species. This means that adult Forbatians rarely look like they belong to others of their race.

What might be most unique about Forbatians are their regenerative powers. When a Forbatian dies through means other than the natural breakdown of their genetic material that occurs with age, the cells of their body reform and replicate in order to form a brand new body. This body tends to form as a undifferentiated grey featureless body similar to Forbatian youth, but in a short period of time they settle on a new permanent form.

Some Forbatians have the ability to make changes to their body: temporarily extending the length of their limbs, becoming flexible enough to squeeze through tight spaces, and in rare cases take a completely liquid form for short periods of time. All Forbatians can identify another Forbatian due to the exchange of chemicals that occurs when their skin touch.

Culture: Forbatians have not been as successful adapting to inter-system as other civilizations. Their planet has largely become a slum-world where sex trafficking is the leading industry. Crime Lords from other planets have made Forbat an important hub in smuggling and other illegal activities. Forbatians are extremely open-minded, largely due to their ability to look like any humanoid species. Forbatians are able to blend into most societies, and have taken to the stars to escape the squalor their homeworld has fallen into.

Species Name: Sudic
Other Names: The Prophets of Sudice

Home Planet: Sudice
Home System:

Physiology: The Sudics appear like humans, with Indigo hair, blood, eyes, and lips. Sudics dress in robes and cloth wrappings, and adorn themselves with psycho-luminescent paint and ink that glow yellow or white when they tap into their clairvoyant abilities. Most important is the Cosmic Eye motif that is inscribed on either the forehead or the hands.

Culture: Sudice is loosely governed by a conclave of prophets, one from each major settlement, that meet in the capital city. Each major settlement across the planet has a meditation sanctum that serves as the center of that community.

The Sudics consider themselves a very spiritual people, with a rich but loosely defined sets of traditions that revere the collective spiritual fiber that connects all thinking beings. It is thought that meditation and communion with the Cosmic Thread grants the Sudics clairvoyant abilities, though outsiders often interpret these unique gifts as the manifestation of some latent psychic ability or even some sort of mass delusion.

Those with the most developed connection to the Cosmic Thread report being able to observe their surrounding from a bird’s-eye perspective, hear the thoughts of those around them, and even view events through another being’s eyes - sometimes planets and systems away. These Sudics are revered as prophets and the demonstration of such gifts grants individuals great respect among their communities.

Sudics often oppose the GSTC’s agendas, but remain on friendly terms with the commission and most systems in the galaxy. Having embraced technological advances and space travel, their machines and vehicles are crafted to reflect the natural world around them: spaceships resemble raw minerals or stones and weapons resemble vines or tree limbs.

Species Name: Kye’kye
Other Names:

Home Planet: Imotel
Home System

Physiology: The Kye’kye can draw their evolutionary history to the amphibians that are prevalent on their native planet. Their hairless skin is a vibrant red, orange or yellow color with exquisite mottling in other warm colors, browns, and blacks. Their eyes are large, slightly bulbous, and black and set wide on their faces. Kye’kye have no noticeable nose, though close inspection reveals two tiny slits that act as their scent receptors. Likewise, instead of ears they have sound sensitive organs that appear as small holes on the side of their face. Kye’kye are toothless, but strong jaw muscles and a tough mandible grants the Kye’kye a crushing bite.

The Kye’kye are able to breathe underwater, by absorbing oxygen through their skin. They secrete a specialized mucus from their skin that keeps it moist at all times, though the Kye’kye must stay hydrated, either by submerging themselves in water or drinking plenty of fluids. They are particularly susceptible to chemicals or poisons that they can absorb through their skin.

The digits of the Kye’kye end in powerful suction pads at allow them to stick to hard surfaces, even if it is perfectly smooth. They tend to be stronger than they appear, with their soft skin hiding the definition of muscles underneath. Females are smaller than males, averaging 4 ½ and 6 ½ feet respectively. Kye’kye offspring are born live, but develop through a tadpole like stage during which they are entirely aquatic and largely defenseless.

The Kye’kye language is made up of a staggering amount of grunts, chirps, clicks, trills, and hums. Many of their communications convey subtle that cannot be accurately translated through most universal translation devices.

Culture: Living in the fertile water surrounding the roots of the large trees on the tropical planet of Imotel, the Kye’Kye have a rather simple existence. They have been subjugated by the Imotelese of the planet for centuries, have developed the cultural belief that the canopy dwelling Imotelese are the rightful rulers of the planet.

Despite this virtual enslavement, the Kye’kye have a peaceful existent. While they have little technology, they consider themselves to be one united family, and freely trade with all of the Kye’kye across the planet. The abundance of food and mild weather patterns make the planet’s natural predators and the requirements of tribute to the Imotelese the only concerns for their welfare.

Kye’kye are sometimes traded by Imotelese as servants, slaves, or soldiers. This is the primary reason they would ever leave the planet.

Species Name: Imotelese
Other Names:

Home Planet: Imotel
Home System

Physiology: The Imotelese have evolved from the amphibian life that primarily makes up the fauna on Imotel. They are thin and light-weight to help them glide, which they accomplish using a retractable skin sail that attaches under the arm and down the side of the Imotel. Their skin is a mottled aqua-green and sky blue that matches the leaves of their native world. Having lived in the canopy for so many centuries, the Imotel have developed lungs similar to other terrestrial species and have lost the ability to absorb oxygen through their skin.

Like the primitive Kye’Kye on their planet, the Imotelese have powerful suction pads on their fingers and toes that allow them to stick to solid surfaces. They have thin noses, yellow eyes, and a mouth full of sharp little teeth. They are hairless, but have a comb of brightly colored skin running back acrossthe center of the head that lays flat against their skull until the Imotelese becomes aggressive. At that time this crown shoots forward as a sign of strength.

The Imotelese are intelligent, though their primitive planet often leads other races to underestimate their intellect. Coupled with a natural paralytic toxin, they enjoy political intrigue and are readily equipped.

Culture: The Imotelese have a complicated governmental system based on the performance and owing of favors. Assassination of political rivals is common, but extreme steps are taken to ensure the death cannot be tied back to the perpetrator.

The Imotelese live exclusively in canopy cities high above the water their home trees grow in. For centuries they have subjugated the Kye’kye species that live in the water below, forcing them to cultivate and harvest food for their kingdom.

Imotelese who have been publicly humiliated or have otherwise lost face within the Imotelese courts will often leave the planet to either establish themselves elsewhere or to bide their time and gather resources for a return to Imotel.

Imotel

Imotel is a tropical, moonless planet devoid of tides. The planet’s surface is nearly completely covered by freshwater, from which giant trees grow. A red algae colors all of the water on the planet’s surface, while the foliage of the trees tend to be an aqua-green or blue color. Nearly all life on the planet is either plant or amphibian, with both sentient species being the later. The intelligent Imotelese inhabit the canopy of the planet, while the simple Kye’kye dwell in the water below.

Prulopa

Prulopa is an ocean planet with no natural land masses. Once pristine and filled with the native Prulops, this great sea is now heavily polluted by the large floating factories creating the robotic devices that allow the aquatic Prulops to live out of water and take to the stars.

Species Name: Prulop
Other Names:

Home Planet: Prulopa
Home System:

Physiology: The Prulops appear as small, fetus-like creatures. The have short stubby arms and fingers, an enlarged forhead with round unblinking eyes, and a thick tail. Gills run down their chest. White, translucent skin allow for the inner organs to be seen. This skin is incredibly soft and Prulops exposed to force injure and die easily. Prulops are nearly identicle in appearance, with eye color being one of the few differing characteristics. They are small, measuring nine and 3/4 inches in length. Unlike the neonatal creatures they share appearance with, Prulops are fully mobile and posses full mental capabilities.

Prulops must live in water, However they have developed complex robotic suits that allow them to live and interact on dry land. While these machines may differ greatly in design, the central feature is a transparent, fluid filled sphere where the Prulop can survive and operate the machine. This sphere is filled with a specially developed liquid that allows the transition of neural communication from the Prulop to the connected robotic shell. This allows the Prulop mental control over it's machine. Nutrients and air are taken in through the machine and integrated with the controlling fluid and waste products are filtered out, allowing the Prulops to live within their machines indefinitely.

Culture: Before the arrival of interplanetary visitors, the Prulop had an idyllic existence without commerce, war, or politics. These visitors created the first rudimentary machines to allow the Prulop to interact and communicate with them.

A thousand years later nearly every Prulop spends the entirety of their life in their neural command orbs. Large floating factories float on the surface of their world's oceans, polluting them with toxic substances. Few creatures still swim in the open seas. Social strata have formed, allowing the rich and influential to control the means of production and have superior robotic shells. A new class of citizens, unable to pay for necessities on their planet that they have taken to the stars to find the means to maintain and improve their suites elsewhere.

Fairly straight-forward, they have difficulty controlling what they say since thoughts are converted to words by their mechanisms. They tend to be short sighted in their goals, though usually very capable at achieving them.

NY, how do you keep coming up with all these good ideas? (might I please borrow all or some of them for my own not-at-all-nefarious purposes?).

I would not be posting them if I didn't want people to use them!

Nearly all of these start as just a single idea. "I want an alien that turns into a tree" or "I want an alien that could accidentally be bought by a PC" or "Gold-skin." Then I keep a list of these ideas on my computer that I add two whenever I see or hear or think of something inspiring.

From there its just choosing one idea and then ask "what else" over and over again.

Then the name always goes last. Which is different from almost all of my supers characters, that start with the name!

Species Name: Pneuvra
Other Names:

Home Planet: Chantai
Home System:

Physiology: The Pneuvra are a disembodied race, dispersed into what might be an alternative dimension. When they manifest in the prime dimension they often appear pale or even translucent though they can still be completely solid.

Manifestation does not seem to be completely voluntary, though some Pneuvra have learned how to blink in and out of existence or to become incorporeal at will . Individual Pneuvra or small groups often seem to be attached to particular person, object, or place and routinely manifest only around that anchor. Pneuvra may go decades or longer before they manifest again, and they seem to enter a state of hibernation during these extended periods. Pneuvra can never provide a clear or coherent picture of what their new dimensional home is like.

Pneuvra look like humans save for their gaunt appearances and glowing eyes. Whether these were natural traits or results of their banishment it is unknown.

Culture: Chantai was a planet who's government was deeply devoted to developing trans-galactic teleportation before their planetary adversaries cracked the mystery. Years of research and hundreds of billions of Pneuvra chan were spent building the experimental device needed to generate the appropriate energy fluctuations. These experiments proved to be he Pneuvra downfall, for when the device malfunctioned the entire planet and the whole Pneuvra race was shunted into a parallel nether space outside of the reality the galaxy exists in.

The Pneuvra were fiercely jingoistic, and those civilizations that remember more about them than simply recalling their great tragedy recall this fact. Since the Great Disaster, the Pneuvra have become even more obsessed than they were in life, though the cause can differ greatly between materializing groups of Pneuvra.
