Rogue World

Rogue World
(Work in Progress)

Explanation

Back in the 90s a buddy of mine and I came up with this really complicated setting for a GURPs game we wanted to run, the game never happened, but I always though it was a cool world and it's still in my head 20 years later.

Introduction

Rogue World is not in any known location in the Universe, it simply just "is". The majority of residents aren't born there, they simply appear there from whatever world they happened to be on, more often than not with quite a bit of the real estate from that world as well. Nobody knows why they appear on Rogue World, how they got there or how to get off, all they know is once they arrive they need to survive.

The first thing a new arrival discovers is day and night are exactly 10hrs and 24 minutes, and the transition between the two takes only a second. During the 624 minutes of sunlight, the sun is always high in the sky, then nearly instantly a moon appears in it's place, an arrival that happened to be from earth would notice that this moon appears much closer (or larger) than the moon they are accustom to seeing. As night quickly descends upon the land, a second, much smaller moon can be seen always just off to the right of the large moon. Then, 624 minutes later, the reverse occurs and the day/night cycle repeats itself.

The second thing a new arrival discovers is that landmasses on Rogue World don't make an sense, they appear to be plucked from other worlds and mashed together, a bit like taking a rubric's cube of geographies that had all been mixed up by some sort of observing deity.

"Citizens" of Rogue World

By all accounts, new arrivals appear every day, but many don't survive their first night. These arrivals come from worlds all throughout the know (and unknown) universes, but thankfully whomever (or whatever) created Rogue World did provide all intelligent species the ability to communicate with one another. It is not only where the new arrivals are from that is interesting, it is also when they are from as time doesn't appear to mean anything in Rogue World.

Species

There are small collections of thousands of species throughout Rogue World, but by chance or by design, a few Species appear to be more numerous than others.

Elves - Nobody knows how old Rogue World is, but one of the first appearances was a vast woodland region. These woods included many different types of animals, and also included an entire nation of Wood Elves. Smaller than and more slight than humans, the Elves are generally peace loving people. They took their arrival on Rogue World as a blessing. They celebrate the forest, the spirits and dance, but that is where their adherence to the "Elven" stereotype end. If you cross the Wood Elves, they will turn beyond viscous, blood thirsty even and will rip their foes limb from limb, even dining on the flesh of their victims. Hunt in their woods at your own peril.

Humans - Perhaps it's because the Earth is the center of existence, or it has some sort of meaning to Rogue World, or maybe it's just dump luck, but there happens to be quite a few humans scattered throughout Rogue World. The difference between the humans and the elves is that the elves were an entire nation, whereas the humans arrived in many small packs from various areas and times throughout history.

Heroes

Bingo - Soon after the arrival of the Wood Elves, an entire chapter of the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club appeared...they didn't aclimatize well. Within a few days, only a few remained. Of the remaining few, two members found an abandoned Wood Elf baby, and instead of disposing of him they instead chose to raise him as their own, naming him Bingo. Years later, all that remains of the gang is gone except for a single Harley riding, double Glock packing, samurai sword wielding angry Wood Elf. Bingo is an accomplished fighter, and due to his nature he is considered an abomination by the Wood Elves.

Zep - A boy in his late teens who comes from a late 1970s earth who was under the influence of various hallucinogens during his arrival on Rogue World. This caused his body to begin to become a center for mystical energies, granting him various magical abilities to both attack and defend himself. How he does this, he doesn't know as he still appears to often be intoxicated and medicated so it's hard to get a straight answer. Zep is completely accepting of being on Rogue World, often commenting that he feels he's just on a drug induced trip. Most of the manifestations of Zeps abilities come in the form of lyrics to music he listens to.
