Origin:

Piotr Rasputin was smuggled into the U.S. from Russia at age nine, for his own personal safety as opposed to anything threatening his family, most of whom still live in Russia. After a childhood described as violent and miserable, Rasputin discovered his mutant powers and began earning money by performing feats of super-strength for tourists. He also realized that he was gay. Eventually returning to Russia, he faced death from a Siberian firing squad, but was rescued and recruited by the Red Mafiya (the Russian Mafia). Not a criminal by nature but unable to resist the attractive profits, Piotr became an arms dealer and sent almost all his earnings to his family. When an arms merchant employed by Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants double-crossed him during a transaction, Piotr exposed himself as a mutant by assuming metallic form to repel his attacker's bullets. In the aftermath of the battle, Jean Grey, who was tracking down potential X-Men, came upon the scene and recruited Piotr. As Colossus, Piotr proved an exceptional combatant against X-Men foes such as the Sentinels and Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants



Notes:

One of the weird things about the entry for Colossus in the OHUMU is that it has him in class six which allows him to lift between 75 and 100 tons. But it also says "he possesses a staggering level of superhuman strength, sufficient to move a submarine weighing several thousands of tons." So I made him able to lift 89.6 tons and push/drag 224. It is conceivable that he could Power Stunt a "different" Alternate Form where he moves all of the points from density into Super Strength and then can push/drag 14k tons.

In UXM 94 - 97 Colossus is shown to be addicted to Banshee. This arc also retcons his power set, implying that while he has the ability to transform into steel, his strength was not increased. Supposedly, this resulted in him being unable to move. He took Banshee to enhance his strength. I think that the best way to explain this is to say that when he first manifested powers, he did not manifest enhanced strength. However, later he developed enhanced strength as well, but did not realize it because he was always using Banshee. This would allow a GM who wants to use a post UXM 98 Colossus who is in recovery to have Super-strength without using Banshee.

Origin:

Alison Blaire was lead singer in the heavy metal band "Dazzler," known for its obscene lyrics and spectacular visual effects (secretly supplied by her mutant powers). After two less-than-successful records, Ali considered outing herself as a mutant for extra publicity. Before she could, she was approached by teacher Emma Frost, who was forming a group of young mutant spokespeople to distance the current presidential administration from the X-Men. Uninterested in Frost's politics, Ali said she would join in exchange for a record deal, a requirement she reiterated when the X-Men tried to recruit her. Ali joined Ms. Frost's group, the New Mutants. However, an anti-mutant military faction programmed giant robot Sentinels to attack the group's introductory press conference. The X-Men, on hand for the event, counterattacked and defeated the Sentinels. The anti-mutant conspirators were exposed, and Professor X offered Ms. Frost's charges a place at his own school. Ali was the only one to accept, albeit claiming she was doing it for free room and board. After overindulging at an Atlantic City rave, Ali (now called "Dazzler" by her fellow mutants) returned to the school in an intoxicated stupor; but she recovered in time for Sinister's attack on the X-Men.
Despite her claims of disinterest, Ali helped fight off the serial killer, who was defeated shortly thereafter by Rogue. Ali dissolved her band, unconvincingly claiming this was induced by Professor X's telepathy.

Notes:

I am not really happy with the Dazzler build. Primarily b/c of the absorption power. I don't like the way that power magnet does not have any math for drawing energy "energy from suitable sources (such as bonfires, generators, speakers, and so forth)" By including speakers in there they are asking you to build dazzler with this power option, but how does it work? Say she is in range of a speaker. The option says: "Reduce the power source’s output that round by your power rank and gain temporary power points equal to twice its rank or twice your power rank, whichever is less." What does this mean? What is a speaker's output? Taliesin wrote this in response to the question:

Since finals are over and summer has begun, but my job has not, I decided to waste an afternoon making up a chart for this sort of thing. Basically I started out just wanting to equate a PL/DC to decibels (dB). Then I started to think it might be helpful to have a chart that plots damage from a sound source based on distance from it. The thing to understand about it is that damage begins around 90-95 dB and the loudest sound possible in air is 190-194 dB. So I decided to make 90 a DC/PL 11/1 and 190 a DC/PL 30/20.

Notes:

Much of what I have done here is taken from Fury's first appearance in Ultimate X-men #9. He has all kinds of cool gadgets, but is not Samuel L. yet.

The OHUMU says that he can fly with armor, but I could not find him doing so. That book was published in 2005. I looked up most of his appearances prior to that and didn't see it. What I think happened was the writers confused the Para Shoes with flight.

He is a swollen 200+ points at PL 10, but most of the time he doesn't have all those gadgets. A word on that. I wanted to make the gadgets all separate powers so they could be taken away by a GM using this NPC so I did it this way. Some may not like it and I am discussing alternatives on another post, but any other way wastes points. I did the math.

I didn't make his stats higher, despite Ult Origins showing us his exposure to the super soldier serum. He is just not portrayed as cap's equal physically. Whether that is b/c he's older or just didn't get as big a boost as Cap, I don't know, but I think he is still really tough physically.

Also there is the matter of him losing an arm in Ultimates 2. I don't know if it grew back b/c of regeneration (but his eye didn't) or if he has a prosthetic. My guess is the latter. Any one with an issue reference for where this is explained I would appreciate it. Regardless it seems to function as his other arm does so no real mechanical change seems to be needed.

Edit:

Added The Skills I intended to get in, but forgot.

Changed the Powers to one Device/Container with all of the separate "devices" within it. This just seems the best way to do it after a discussion elsewhere.

Added Tough to his feats.

Added Immunity (Aging). Made it limited. He has not stopped aging, but is aging slowly. If you figure he was about 25 in 1945, then in 2005 he would be 55. That sounds about right, especially if you recognize that SLJ was 57 in 2005.

This Ult. Jean Grey build is far from perfect, but I think that it is not possible to build the ultimate Jean exactly. I think that there are three levels of power she is shown to possess. The first is the way we meet her in the beginning of the series. The other is the god-like Phoenix form. There is also a third level of power that exists between the two, IMO. This is the level of power that Jean uses to levitate the reactor in Miami in Ult. X-Men 31-32. She describes it as “It’s like all those things the phoenix force could let me do are here at my disposal, but the voice in my head has finally disappeared, y’know?” Well Jean I don’t know, because in a couple of issues you are going to be taken back over by the force and alter reality. So “all those things the phoenix force could let me do” is not really all the things so much as some of the things. This is why I decided to use the holding back drawback. When I read this DB I thought “well that is meant to be used to make phoenix.” So I did.

Her Telekinesis in Holding Back form can with Untapped Potential and a full round action can get allow her to move 8,000 tons. Does anybody think that this is enough to move the reactor like in issue 31-32? I think it is close enough.

Also the Holding Back form is built with 15 more points than is traditionally given by the Drawback.

The Actual Phoenix form from issue 25 (Destroying the Hellfire Club; Altering Reality) and issues 92-93 (Destroying Apocalypse; Altering Reality) is best handled using a Plot Device.

Notes:

I was not totally happy with the powers here. The problem with straight mimic was that it didn't take the power away from the target, which I believe the 1610 version does (at least temporarily). The problem with Transfer was the passage: "The traits you can transfer from and to must be chosen when you take this power and cannot change." I felt like saying she can take: "whatever traits they have" and boost: "whatever traits they had" was a little broad and/or ambiguous for this.

Eventually I just adopted the Affliction power from 3e. It works great IMO.

Also no attractive feat for the 1610 version. This is not the normal 616 super model version, plus not every super can have it or what is the point.

Note: In the Ultimate Universe, Scarlet Witch has to use her knowledge of Physics to manipulate reality. In one scene she says that "all I have to do is alter the probability of something bad happening to [the bad guys] . . . but the calculations are so damn complex. I could fry everyone if I get this wrong." Ultimately (excuse the pun) she fails, saying "There are too many of [the bad guys]. I can't keep it up. There are just too many distinct sets of probabilities . . ." Thus the check to use her powers, she should succeed on average, just under 50 percent of the time. She should succeed more often when affecting one person, and less often against many. But if she pulls off the latter, the effect is significantly more dangerous.
