fair enough.

I just envisioned a very 90s crossover with, for whatever reason, our hero suddenly being a cyborg.

I got caught up in it all.

I point out that the plague itself is turning the infected into cybernetic horrors. i'd imagine Blackwing's real fight isn't with the plague monsters, but rather the cold machine logic thats creeping through his brain, and how hard he's finding to resist it, before he goes into a meditiative trance, and confronting his cybedized dark side representing the plague's influence, tells it

I AM A MAN!

and punching it in the gut

The Cybergen
---

the newest breed of superhuman, and possibly the key to stopping the Carbon Plague and Mechanon, is the so called cybergeneration (or cybergen).

For whatever reason, children have a different reaction to the Carbon Plague. first, it only affects those aged 10-19, with children under 10 showing either immunity, or the plague is simply latent. they'll show all the symptoms, from fever to dementia, but come the final stages, instead of dying horribly they just lapse into a coma.

this was the part that really started panicking, because once the child is comatose, every pore in their body starts churning out a silvery sweat which congeals and covers the body, seemingly turning them into statues, but is in fact a chrysalis state.

an as yet undetermined time later, ranging from hours to days, the metal cocoon collapses into a sand like substance, and the child wakes up either with no ill effects...

or comes out with technorganic superpowers.

as with prior outbreak events, there's no telling what powers a cybergen will develop, but AEGIS intel is presently working on five distinct subcategories, codenamed as follows:

Alchemists - Cybergen able to manipulate inorganic matter, through reshaping, transmutation, or tactile telekinesis (think full metal alchemist).

Bolters - Cybergen whose powers feature some ranged offensive ability, such as shooting electrified filaments from the hand like a living taser, or literally spitting bullets.

Tinmen - cybergen whose powers are purely physical, such as organic metal bodies/exoskeletons, or 'body weapon' shapechanging

Scanners - Cybergen with extrasensory abilities, such as telepathy. some documented scanners also possess enhanced dexterity or reflexes, and thus scanner is used as a catchall category for internal powers .

Wizards - demonstration of cyberkinesis (remote mental manipulation of software and electronic hardware, ability to 'see' the internet, that sort of thing)

note: although dramaticly reduced, the Carbon plague does have a confirmed mortality rate amongst minors. parents and children alike are advised to treat underage infection as seriously as Wild Card manifestation.

as mentioned, Mechanon is aware of the cybergen, and has dedicated several drones to search and destroy what mechanon considers abominations.

Re: Kreuzworld-The Carbon Plague: Mechanon, Cybergens

Postby Kreuzritter » Tue Jun 21, 2011 6:30 am

another factor to consider in this kind of crossover is how this affects the other...

Electronic NPC's

Note: this only concerns those with the intelligence/power/resources to properly affect Mechanon's plot. bog-standard killer robots are free to be used as Mechanon's slaves or just doing their own thing

The Assembly - is presently active in New York, scavenging the dead of the Plague

The Collector - has sent drones to add a selection of Cybergens and plague victims to its archives.

The Cybertribe - as mentioned, these robotic robin hoods are taking in every cybergen they can find, hiding them from Mechanon and helping them through their transformations

Kumu - is aghast at Mechanon's genocidal aims, as Kumu's goal is to establish the dominace of womankind over men, and is providing her processing power to finding a solution that will leave womankind on top

Lain - is doing everything in her power to keep neo-tokyo from becoming a mechanical hell on earth

Largo - against the orders of his master, Largo is using the chaos of the plague to seize control of Neo-Tokyo with an army of rogue boomers, many of which are horribly mutating as they become affected by the plague. He is unaware of Lain's existence and efforts

Modular Man - is being the biggest damn hero he can be, saving as many lives as he can, fearing that the plague will turn humanity against robots like himself

Talos - The Man of Bronze is content to sit and watch for now. Partly because Mechanon's plot has a fair chance of success, but equally cognizant of the flaws in the scheme, and his curiousity over the cybergeneration

Ultramind - as mentioned by Mr. Phipps, is gravely concerned over the plague's spread and how it interferes with Ultramind's plans to turn earth into Mithras 2.0. However, Ultramind isn't packing up just yet, though. first, the obvious and frequent errors in Mechanon's logic suggest global depopulation will still fit within mission parameters, and that the cybergeneration are an unknown factor that must be examined in full.

Re: Kreuzworld-The Carbon Plague: Mechanon, Cybergens

Postby Kreuzritter » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:55 am

So, since we've got two more months to the Carbon plague crossover, I'll start resuming my coverage of setting additions. this time around

Paragons: Heroes & villains

Alpha Male - the media saavy emotion sponge has taken Freehold by storm, upsaging hometown hero Splotch at every turn. ironicly, Alpha Male John C Wright III is one of Splotch's biggest fans, and is increasingly uncomforable with their 'rivalry'

Answer - continues to be a huge pain in the butt for any public figure with a secret, Tom Anwar is a good, and mostly honest man. he can be harsh and critical, but he's fair, and will not be silenced. most recently won a peabody award for his expose on the Church of Humanity

Arbiter - has been rebuilding his reputation after a nervous breakdown brought on by recent earth-shaking events left his cmpany of Watermark Fidelity and its investors in a financial tailspin

Blueshift - the pre-eminent superfast courier, blueshift's Patron "Mr. Doe" is none other than Mister Zero, who couldn't pass up the opportunity the clandestine courier presented to his lust for information

Bodyshop - a third party contractor for the world crime league

Burning man - a pathetic yet destructive joker-ace operating out of falconcrest, Burning Man is both a foe of Black Wing, yet considers the crime fighter something of a freind for all the times he's been put out

Calamity Jane - a product of Project icarus, and founder/leader of Merlin, having a freindly rivalry with any young geek whose genius rivals her own, such as Gimmick. one of the minds working on finding a vaccine to the Carbon Plague

Chud - feared predator of the new york sewer system, Chud 's claimed the tunnels beneath Jokertown as its territory, Making it an enemy of the Clan Hamato and the Turtles street gang

Crybaby & lullaby - have recently come to Freedom City as the latest leg of their travels. Foreshadow has taken personal interest in tracking the pair down after the pair inadvertantly incited and quelled a riot at one of White Knights hate rallys

'Dire' Straits - a gun for hire in Falconcrest, timothy's trying to save up what money he can to afford passage to Zulan, in hopes of breaking his curse

Empress - the arcane assassin, as mentioned a few pages back, has begun to grow obssessed with rookie magician rosa loteria, wanting her magic deck for herself, unstasfied with her recently claiming the enchanted tarot deck of zavier Zodiac.

Enigma - he thought it was just the Initiative he was dealing with, but ex-jounalist turned conspiracy hunter Bakari Fuara has recently become aware of the Labyrinth's true existence and and some idea of its influence. It's not done wonders for his nerves.

Epicuris - hard partying front man for the Pantheon's operations in the american southwest, frequently jet-setting between Los Dios and Vegas.

Felicia Dumont - professional demon-killer, freind and foe to both Lucien drake and Thomas Rhymer, and daughter of the demon hunter Lacie Damont

Ghost - offered a chance to be lain to rest by Thomas Rhymer, the ghost of Phil kinsey refused his eternal reward in order to save his daughter from The House that Hate built. his existence is now tied to that infernal manse, and seeing him usually means its active in the area.

The House that Hate Built - also known as the mansion of nightmares, the house is a predator/parasite upon the cities of man, making it one of Dr Metropolis' deadlier foes. its feedings have become stymied by the prescence of the ghost, who lends aid and hints to those caught in the games of The House. The House is also one of the few creatures that can bypass the wards around Castle Mass, and the tomorrow Society have exorcised it each time it tries to prey on students

Glyph - the faceless servant/librarian of Silas the elder is not a unique creature. nor is he even silas' servant. the reality is Glyph, and beings like him, are the servants of Tomen The Archivist, last of the alphans and only sane man amidst the terminus. Silas' occult brokerage is a reliable font of knowledge and information, and so Glyph stays close to harvest as much as he can for his true master

Gourmand - the finnish foodie paranormal continues to tour the finest eateries on earth, and has recently based her operations on macross, unable to resist the allure of truly alien cuisine.

Icon - famed tomb raider and 'divine channeller', Dr. Sylvia browning is an expert in 'lost mythologies' and is a member of Pandora. her current projects include the origins of the temple of the living gods, the ruins of hearthstone island (and thus the validity of the Pantheon's divine claims), and of course, anything pertaining to the so-called 'crown of ages'. Icon has also expressed interest in the Sekhmet Stone embedded in John Fortune, and some of the rumored side effects of prolonged shivan shard use

Impostor - the 'supreme infiltrator' is a rising star in the criminal underworld, and after a chance encounter, has become the arch-nemesis of the similarly talented detective, Mister Nobody

Jacob Castle - his hero-hating screeds and vitriolic rhetoric cover up a deeper hurt for castle. he wasn't just an expert, he was The Fanboy, an invaluable info-broker for 'rookie' heroes of Freedom City. Then he drew his Wild card, and began to burn alive... slowly. fearing the black queen, he was rushed to the hospital by his heroic freinds, and the trump was administered in time to save his life. when he regained consciousness, Jacob was furious, not only had they ruined his moment of glory, but his identity was now public, ruining his info-broker career, and starting his new one as a hero hater.

Logar - the energy symbiote remains elusive as ever, jumping from host to host, taking their motives as its own, and showing an interest in speedsters, particularly johnny rocket

Luminary - New Mexico's light controlling paragon and Vanguard poster boy, Luminary's origin is still a mystery, but clues are coming forth, such as memory of smooth jazz, tropical flowers and a beach. at the same time, other origins are ruled out. but while he's curious about his past, Luminary has no qualms about his identity. he's a hero and he likes it that way.
Luminary's true origin is that he's the other survivor of the Anodyne Project of 1941, who turned into pure radiant energy and spent the next 60+ years reincorporating himself while bouncing around the solar system. he lost his memory because of the trauma, but, should he regain those memories, he won't go crazy again.

Man-A-kin - an Ace (although some would argue deuce), Man-i-kin's heroic career is on hold after being found out by foreshadow, and sent to study at claremont academy.

Mindbender - one of the most dangerous supervillains on the planet, Mindbender is a Psi on par with heavyweights such as Menton or Iron Angel. rumors of her origins abound, that she's the daughter of the similarly talented Motivator, that she IS Motivator, who somehow became a Jumper before her reported demise, and even stranger tales. What is known (if you beleive in things like the FWH) is that mindbender is obsessed with creating new supers as 'the next stage of human evolution', and has engineered several 'origin disasters', such as the Wild Card outbreak in Evanston Wyoming, which unleashed the monstous powerhouse known as Rampage on the world.
Yes, she's the Motivator, one of the signature villains of Villains & vigilantes

Mr. Zero - is starting to evolve past being an underworld rumor, and several intelligence agencies are scrambling to find what data they can.

Naga - has since risen to prominence as High Preist of the Hidden Coil as well as the Pantheon, and currently is petitioning that the latter recognize and release Megasaur as one of their own

Necropolitan - is rapidly moving up the most wanted list of several occult-based agenciues, good and bad. some have stated the very real fear that the necropolitan is the herald of an Entropic master. there is one light of hope, however, in its most famous sighting, The Necropolitan cut a swath of destruction through new york's jokertown, before it was 'exorcised' by Father Squid (church of Jesus christ, Joker). Squid, having no arcane or clerical powers to speak of, apparently sent the creature screaming back into the Dark on faith alone.

Network - the telepathic tycoon, marshall collins has recently set up operations on Macross island, viewing the alien minds as a new challenge. he's already earned a great deal of respect, having been part of the human legal team that's taken on The Network.

Nightstalker - one of the vigilantes trying to rid falconcrest of its corruption

Otherkin - While it does little to help her case, Racheal Carson has learned some important facts about her origin, Courtesy of Ackroyd & creighton investigations. first, that her condition is genetic. second, that the reason she was abused was because her mother had been caught in bed with "two other men", third, that her real father was famed Ace J.J. flash, or rather Mark "Cap'n Trips" Meadows, and she inheirited his Ace. this means the creature sighted at rachael's initial breakout may be her equivalent to Monster. Ackroyd has informed dr. rosemont and Vomstahl that Otherkin meeting The Radical or the Tic-Toc Doc would probably be, and I quote "Bad."

Panacea - One of the leading experts in superhuman medicine, Dr. Riviera's Panacea Clinic is considered the european equivalent of the Jokertown Clinic or rosemont centre. Dr. Riviera is also Vanguard's medical consultant.

Super-Patriot - introduced towards the end of the Bush administration, Super-Patriot is a god amongst men, and has only grown as a national icon since the start of President Obama's term, fighting valiantly against the Orkus invasion and other threats/disasters to american soil. He's weathered the exposure of his identity (Lt. Kyle Griffin, of Branson missouri), some say he's a walking propaganda peice (true, mostly because its how his powers work). others say he's centurion reborn (false). a popular rumor is that he's gay (bisexual, actually.), and most people who meet him are surprised at how genuinely nice the man is. As for his other secret, well, its something even he hasn't realized, but will ruin him all the same. For this reason the Covenant keeps a close watch on him.
Super-Patriot's secret is that he's a literally a god, and of the same stripe as Gaia of the Pantheon, whose powers similarly wax and wane with her worshippers

Peacemaker - despite her growing beleif in the Nur Sect, Fatima Yassim has chosen not to emigrate to zulan, feeling her gift is needed most in her native palestine, and disagrees with the sect's views on jokers (Fatima agrees they were cursed by the devil, but that their defomities are a trick to make them lose faith, not a sign of their lack of it)

Phenom - the internationally famous super-celebutante has extended her 15 minutes of fame into a probable hour, when at a charity blood drive at the Jokertown Clinic, she was finally tested for the metagene (a careful trap laid by her critics and rivals). well, to everyone's surprise, the test came back positive. having empiricly crushed her most persistant rumor, Phenom is riding a new wave of popularity, while the papparazzi (and Phenom herself) now scrambles to figure out just what her powers really are. while this is left to the GM's discretion, my own take is that Phenom's power is one of suggestion, which she's been subconsciously been using to make people beleive her tricks are real powers, rather than special effects. naturally, it doesn't work on other superhumans

Pontifex - one of the counsellors at the Rosemont centre, Clio Bianchi is also one of the clinic's de facto public face, downplaying her ties to the carbonadi family

Prometheus - Nikolas Kollos is still alive and active, despite a few token attempts by Dr. Prometheus. the reasons are threefold. first, he's too "small-time", putting him beneath the doctor's notice. Second, is that Nick's precognition has kept hem a step ahead of the attempts (barely), and finally, great as his ego is, Dr. Prometheus has FAR more important things to do with his time than to chase down every little grudge, and has even done the mental gymnastics to convince himself this minor precognative has named himself "in tribute" to the good doctor

Doc Prophet - the latest scion of the famed prophet family, Dr. Jeremiah Prophet is the founder and head of the Vanguard Committee, appointed by UN Secretary J.C. Jaywardene.

Proteus - the infamous shapeshifting terrorist follows its own agenda, but is presently waffling between Gene Nation and the Pantheon

Proxy - the duplicating daredevil criminal is presently 'on tour', with plans to fight/seduce the 'big names' of the costumed crimefighter set (she's already crossed black wing off her list)

Raindance - is a legacy heroine, the Daughter of Canadian heroine Mother raven.

Rampage - one of Mindbender's success in creating her super-army, Rampage is her pawn of choice when her plans call for generalized mass destruction in a particular area. She also leaves her pet monster 'off the leash' fairly often, to obscure her use of him behind his destructive wake

Ravana - is one of southeast asia's most feared supercriminals, due to his clt following, the gruesome state of his victims and his staggering array of powers. Ravana was forced to abandon his territory in india after a 'humbling' encounter with the Pantheon, and as a result will gleefully aid any who oppose them.

Red Tide - a relative newcomer to the eco-terrorist set, Red Tide, powers are indeed supernatural, the gift of the goddess Siren in response to Baron Samedi empowering Hoodoo Mama. Siren had hoped to win their wager with another worthy champion, but as Red Tide's crimes grow, Samedi can only point and laugh at her folly.

Father Sebastian Rojas - in his quest to control the demon, Rojas has recently taken a different tack, attempting to understand the beast, from its origins to its nature. this quest has led him north to Mexico, and crossing paths with not only the Covenant and Pact, but the attentions of El Diablo Conejo (mr. Hoppy) itself.

17 - another 'satisfied customer' of Mr. Infamy.

Silas the Elder - the arcane equivalent of Sidney Greenstreet in The Maltese Falcon, Silas is an occult kingpin, dealing in knowledge, 'consultation' and artifacts. a powerful figure within The Pact, much of its ill repute stems from his influence. but however malign, he does good business with any who come to him, be it Seven seeking an ancestress' diaries, or Una wishing to broker an alliance with Bres the beautiful. the only exceptions are brimstone, whose betrayal of silas in times past has led to Silas scuttling carefully made plans to get his pudgy fingers on the covenant's secrets

Ugly Jake - a super powered enforcer of the new york mafia, Ugly Jake is presently 'on loan' to one of the Freedom City families

The Unity - following a tense standoff between themselves and the tomorrow society, The Unity has scaled back their plans of assimilation for now, concentrating on learning more about the superhuman world.

Valkyrie - Vanessa Ashe, Founder and CEO of Worldtree technologies is a founding member of both Vanguard's Alpha team, and UNISON's Valkyrie Squadron (UNISON's answer to the Power Corps). Vanessa is also, to her shame, neice to Dominic Ashe, leader of Overthrow, and is bent on crushing her uncle's terrorist organization.

Vector - another member of Vanguard's alpha team, ex olympic snowboarder Travis Hawk is even more of a show-off and gloryhound, now that he's reached the ripe old age of 27. worse, he has a bit of an inferiority complex about not being the fastest man alive, leading to ugly rivalries with other speedsters, and once getting punched in the face by Speed Demon of the Sentinels

Vom Stahl - in addition to his duties as the rosemont centre's head of security, Vom Stahl has a second job as a part time teacher at Castle Mass. being appearently in his mid 40's, Vom Stahl's tried to push his feelings about otherkin/racheal carson towards the parternal side, arguing to other feelings that she's young enough to be his daughter. vom stahl is also a regular at Troll's floating poker game.

I have a question about 17. Since Mr. Infamous doesn't buy souls, rather granting wishes that are likely to cause chaos/destruction, how might this work in 17's case?

simple. he's given 17 the means to answer any question, but 17, who really does think infamy is the devil, hoards this power like a miser, and thus turns away anyone who comes to him asking for help, his conscxience knowing he was their last hope

on a personal level, something 17 hasn't clued in is that while his death's date is writ in stone, the rest of his life is not. he thinks himself untouchable, but its only a matter of time until some accident or "on purpose" leaves him crippled from the neck down and with countless tubes shoved where tubes won't go

just some quick notes

1. I finally got my hands on an aberrant core book (Aberrant d20, to be specific, but i'll keep my eyes peeled for others in the series, such as Adventure!), so i get more detail on things soon-ish

2. to avoid true setting bloat, in the Kreuzworld, buffy the vampire slayer/whedonverse, Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor who remain works of fiction

3. having reread my copy of cybergeneration, it turns out the powered kids are referred to as Cyberevolved. Given that the already extant similarities between my Carbon Plague plotline and Generator Rex, i'm just gonna cut out the middleman and cybergens will from hereonout be called Evos, although i'll probably be using both interchangably.

4. PS238 is now part of the Kreuzworld setting. your guess is as good as mine as to when Cranston was president

5. i've also gotten my hand on Cartoon action hour. haven't yet set down to read it, but I imagine for some of its shows, i'll be applying the Schwartz theorem of mental resonance ("it's real somewhere, but some guy on earth thinks its a tv show he made up")

and now, a quick look into the future with

Osiris
---

With the arrival of the Macross colony ship in the late 00's, Earth finally started taking space travel seriously and with renewed interest. First came the admission of Farside City by the united Nations, then the "HEaven Over Mountain" orbitial elevator, and the exploration of the planet Mars.

And It was on mars that the next step became clear: during an expedition to Olympus Mons, the Mars exploration teams discovered a downed alien spacecraft, buried for centuries under the red sands, the flight telemetry of which suggested it had come from Alpha Centauri, the nearest region to our solar system.

as our region of space was still considered a "mostly harmless" and unimportant region by most galactic powers, when we humans finally figured out how to get ourselves out of the solar system, Alpha Centauri was our first stop, or to be precise, the 4th planet from the star Alpha Centauri A, a world we would come to call Osiris.

It wasn't quite what we expected.

Far from a green and life bearing world, Orisis was from all appearances a planet of the dead, a world of naked hills, barren plains, continental deserts and seas of carbon dust, shrouded in a heavy, gray ghostly fog.

And yet, Osiris had the waters, rivers, lakes and and oceans to support life, an atmosphere rich in oxygen-nitrogen content much like earth's own. Evidence of artificial structures buried in the dust seas of Osiris, and the discovery of long abandoned space stations overrun by their own artificial ecosystems soon resolved the mystery

Orisis was a world ravaged by nanotechnology. wether as an accident or a terrible war, all life on the planet's surface had been stripped away by nanotechnology, the "ghost fog" that comprises the atmosphere being an impossibly complex nanotech network that maintained the atmosphere.

Humans being humans, we naturally called Dibs and moved right in, both to the planet, and the lost osirian technologies we found.

Disaster struck twice during colonization. First, disaster struck during the arrival of the first major colonization fleet, and many of the arriving ships were destroyed either by burning up in Osirisis' atmosphere, or by crashlanding. But, those humans who did survive, undaunted and saying "any landing you can walk away from...", established their homes and families, taking firm root in the unforgiving sands of Osiris

the second, most recent disaster came when the Osrian technology was finally identified as similar enough to that of the Haud (making them the neanderthal to the Osirians human), alien reptile-men who had been stranded on earth for centuries, and had been waging a guerilla war against humans since the mid 20th century. Outraged by our shameless exploitation of their ancestral homeland, they did everything in their power to sabotage and destroy the colonization of Osiris before a setllement was finally reached.

Today, Osiris is a world that struggles with its own identity, as colonists increasingly yearn for independence from Earth, and a growing divide between those looking to terraform Osiris in Earth's image, or to restore the original Osrian ecosystem and the preservation of Osrian culture (a feat attainable through technology and info left by the Osirians).

Culture on Osiris is varied. major population centres maintain an earthlike Cyberpunk feel with an 'ancient egypt' motif that stems from Osirian techno/cultural influence, with an apect emphasized dependng if the centre is based around an earth installation or an Osirian ruin (or "star tomb")

as one moves out towards the frontier, things begin to resemble a retro-futuristic wild west, with dusters, stetsons, and seemingly archaic (but reliable) weaponry.

Osiris' Most Wanted
---

Eye of Re - a radical extremist Osirian terrorist network, Selket beleives itself to be fighting an uphill battle against the ruthless military-industrial gov-corps that desecrate Osiris and crush human freedom, and violently oppose the 'green osiris' terraforming project.

Gasback - one of Osiris' greatest outlaws, Gasback is a powerful giant of a man whose speed, cunning and intelligence belie his bulk, who specializes in the armed robbery of the most lucrative and 'impossible' targets, maintaining a moral code similar to the supervillains of the mid 20th century's 'silver age'

The Gung-Ho guns - a shadowy mercenary outfit comprised of the most ruthless and deadly assassins on the planet, the roster of which is ever changing as members come and go, one way or another

Jade Naga - nigh-immortal Warmaster of the Haud, Jade Naga was their leader on earth, but when the settlement was made to allow the Haud to share in the colonization, he was overthrown as part of the deal. to this date he is the number 1 terrorist threat to the planet, an insane nhilist wishing to destroy not only the colonists, but all Haud who refuse to serve him.

Vash The Stampede - The Humanoid Typhoon, 60 billion Double Dollar Man, and other ominous sounding epithets earned his reputation 25 years ago when he walked into the city of July one day and an hour later left it a smoking crater where the survivors envied the dead. Since then, the seemingly ageless Vash has roamed Osiris, leaving chaos and destruction in his wake, although most of that comes from the armies of bounty hunters, mercenaries and lowlifes who come after him. But, over the years, Vash's terrible legend is appended and annotated with stories of a curious folk hero, a crybaby mama's boy who eats donuts like a starved hog in heat who goes out of his way to ensure the safety of everyone he meets, innocent bystanders and hardend criminal alike, such that even when entire towns are smashed to rubble in his wake, not only are there no casulties, but the survivors have the means and will to rebuild.

The Carbon Plague - State of the Event

- Mechanon, dissatisfied when it turned out the plague was too slow in its killing, has stepped up its timetable, its minions having built control towers in target cities to turn the plague victims into mindless slaves

- New York City's heroes have stuck back hardest, having destroyed their control tower, and fighting Mechanon's drones in the streets.. sadly, not without cost, counted among the dead are the Sentinels of Liberty & justice, and former American Hero contestant Joe Twitch, while the Jokertown vigilante known as The Oddity is in critical condition

- Los Dios is also fighting back, a new hero team known as the Young Guns having found vital clues to stopping the Plague

- Black Wing, having somehow resisted the mind control effects of the Plague (this seems to be repeatedly muttering the phrase "I am a MAN!" and punching himself in the stomach) has determined the source of Mechanon's control signals. From his intel, and that of oter heroes, it is clear that stopping Mechanon will be a two front battle

- the first front is Millenium city, the heart of Mechanon's current operations, and the source of the Plague's activation codes. the Champions will be taking point on this

- the second front, is Mechanon's stronghold on the Moon, where the Freedom League has discovered Mechanon's kept a spoilsport plan in reserve, a diabolical superweapon to finish what the plague started

Gestalt is a great concept, I only wish that I got to use it more. But opportunities never seem to come up.

Gestalts

The Gestalt. A force of Wonder and puissance, in 1989 an unknown force, since dubbed the "Gestalt wave" unleashed the power of Humanity's collective unconsciousness, giving birth to the newest form of Superhuman, the Gestalt is essentially an archetype representing an idea or concept, ranging from greif (lament) to The United States (Liberator), to comic book cliches (Armageddo or Saga). Sometimes the gestalt is an ordinary human, animal or object that's become the champion of something greater than themself (a 'bonded' gestalt), while "Pure" gestalts are arhetypal beings who suddenly appear whole cloth to live and breathe their concept

Origin of the Gestalts

Since their arrival, facts about the Gestalts have come to light, however more answers they raise. for example, there was an early argument as to wether the Gestalts were magical or psionic in nature. the discovery that their powers are drawn from the Imageria (an other dimensional realm that may be the very wellspring of human consciousness and/or the astral plane) suggests the answer is "both"

One man does know the origin of the Gestalt wave however: Earth's Master Mage Adrian Eldritch, and he considers the events surrounding their creation one of his great failures.

As mentioned previously, Eldritch had long sought his apprentice and successor, any potential mage who was brought to his attention, or got his attention. And sometimes, he found mages before even they knew their potential, so long as they showed promise. and in 1989, nobody showed more Promise than Teddy Honorblow, who would be better known to the world as Heironymous Bloat.

too bad Eldritch was busy with other matters as the rox crisis unfolded, dismissing it as 'mundane matters'. Without a master to guide him, Bloat's power and reach soon exceeded his grasp, ignorant of the damage he could do. In his reshaping of Ellis Island, Bloat punched through the barriers between realities, drawing from the imageria itself to fuel his workings. in an instant, the thoughts of the world blew forth like the gusher of an untapped oil well, which was observed as the first Gestalt Wave

And by the time the Master Mage realized its cause, events on the Rox accelerated beyond his ability to interfere, before a loose alliance of mages were able to get through to bloat and convince him to undo his mistake before he destroyed reality as we know it.

but, while the end of all things was averted and the walls of reality restored, the damage was done. there were now cracks in reality. cracks that could, and would split open in the wake of future events of similar scale, as it has 4 times since then: The Terminus Invasion of 1993, 1998's N-Day/Wildstrike, 2002's "Time of Crisis", and most recently, the Orkus Invasion of 2008.
