The Davidson Family
A British family who's history dates back to the 14th century, when legend has it that the family patriarch battled a powerful evil wizard who was trying to enslave a powerful spirit that he believed was an angel. Though successful, the angel became trapped in a cave beneath a hill and the man, who's name was Justin, swore to free her. What isn't legend is the fact that the Davidson family has a long tradition of protecting Britain, though most believe it was during the Pulp era that the Davidson's truly came into their own as a family of adventurers.
Of course the Davidsons had the attention of the mystical community for years before then. It's hard not to notice a family with a cosmic eternal trapped beneath their house after all. The fact that an exact duplicate of the family's founder is born every century has also drawn attention as well.
Though the family had gone on many adventures prior to that point, often encountering other adventuring families such as the Wildes it was during this era that they began having truly remarkable adventures. Working on behalf of the British government and her allies, The Davidson Family would encounter many villains during this period and become a regular thorn in the side of Dr. Fang Shen
and his ally Dr. Sin. Indeed, during this period the feud with Dr. Fang would almost define the family to the extent that many modern historians are surprised to discover the family fought other people.Notable Davidsons during the Pulp EraReginald Davidson:
A veteran of the Great War who resigned his commission after the war to become a diplomat, Reginald was actually a troubleshooter for the British government who would be sent in to neutralize threats to Britain and her allies by any means necessary. Having developed a dislike of guns as a result of his experiences during the Great War, Reginald focused on his skills in diplomacy and Bartitsu to solve these problems, leading him to quip that British spies discovered the threats and he went in to pummel the problem until it ceased being a threat.
A charming family man, Reginald's biggest regret was that he could not keep his family out of his fights. That said, he was quite successful at it until the mid 20s when a trip to Kenya to rendezvous with his brother exposed the rest of his family to the dark attentions of Dr. Fang.Miles Davidson:
Reginald's brother, who was also a veteran of the Great War. Like his brother he did work for the British government on occasion, though he much preferred working as a hunter who procured animals for circuses and zoos. A contemporary and good friend of Frank Buck, Miles prided himself on his ability to capture animals alive and only killed them in the most direst of circumstances and always regretted it when it happened.
Not nearly as shy about using guns as his elder brother, Miles would often use his Lee-Enfield rifle, Webley service revolver and Winchester Model 1897 Trenchgun to aid his family members on their adventures. As skilled as he was at fighting the enemies of Britain and catching animals alive, he wasn't nearly as talented at finding long term romantic relationships. Miles would never marry.Edward Davidson:
The eldest son of Reginald and his wife Regina. A somewhat shy retiring man, Edward never cared for the family tradition of defending Britain. In fact he wanted to be an actor and were it not for his sexuality he likely would've become one of the finest actors of his generation, instead he was stuck as a chorus boy and also worked as a female impersonator. Acting's loss was the spy games' gain however as Edward proved to be the quintessential master of disguise, capable of impersonating almost anybody regardless of gender.
It is unknown who revealed that Edward was gay, but both his siblings would've pounded the person responsible for hindering their brother's career.
Eldest daughter of Reginald and Regina and easily one of the smartest woman in the world, perhaps these smartest. Capable of making all sorts of gadgets and knowledgeable in several sciences both Dr. Aeon and Dr. Atom considered her their peer. In fact she would go on to have a long and impressive career during and after World War 2 as a science hero, becoming one of the John Smith Society's most storied members during that period. She would also work as a liason between the Society and the League of World Harmony, creating several devices that organization still uses today.
An unconventional woman for her time, Frances would proceed to surprise everybody by having an utterly normal wedding to one of the Wilde family, creating the branch family known as the Wilde-Davidsons.Thomas Davidson:
The youngest son of Reginald and Regina and the one who inevitably found himself in the most trouble. Growing up idolizing his father, Thomas would turn out to be as good at martial arts as his elder sister was at science. Mastering Bartitsu at a young age and developing an interest in body building after witnessing a demonstration by Joseph Greenstein, Thomas would become quite an impressive fellow when he grew up. He needed all that skill in martial arts to make it to adult hood as he often found himself tied up in the plots of his father's enemies whom often tried to use him as a pawn in their plans.
One such attempt, involving him being kidnapped by Dr. Fang's daughter Ming Wei in an attempt to brainwash him to kill his father, resulted in him meeting Dr. Fang's other daughter Li Lian. An honorable woman, Li Lian balked at manipulating a boy to slay his father and arranged for Thomas to be rescued by his family and the Fabulous Five. Over the years Thomas and Li Lian would encounter each other numerous times, resulting in the two developing feelings for one another and eventually marrying.
