[Freedom City] Hail SHADOW!

Postby Ramsey » Thu Jan 09, 2014 3:34 am

Hey everyone!
I have a question for those GMs that use the Freedom City setting.
One of the inspirations for the evil organization SHADOW, was obviously Marvel's Hydra. And Hydra is well known for having minions that constantly spout the whole "Hail Hydra! Cut of one head and two shall take its place!" catchphrase.
So my question is: Do members of SHADOW have a similar catchphrase in your game?

In my game they often shout: "Hail SHADOW! As long as the sun still burns the darkness will never die!".
But personally I think it's a bit too long...

This is a slight aside but does anyone else have Overshadow sound like Frank Welker (Cobra Commander)?

"SHADOW! Retreat!!"

Well, sure. I suppose it would suit a more silver agey or less serious game.
Also, while Frank Welker did do a lot of voices, he was not Cobra Commander. That was the late Chris Latta.

I have recently had trouble deciding whether Overshadow sounds more like Christoph Waltz or Arnold Schwarzenegger in my head (if only because of Ah-nulds Bond Villain performance in Escape Plan); both are Austrian and both have potential as a Villain Voice.

The problem is that I can't quite decide if Overshadow is more Palpatine or Darth Vader!

Oh, as for your Overshadow chant why not OVERSHADOW EXCELSIOR! ("Overshadow Uber Alles" without the blatant Nazi reference).

How about "Hail SHADOW! Our Darkness shall Fall across the World!"

I like that. I may use it when SHADOW makes its next appearance in my Freedom City game :D

Considering it's an acronym for Secret Hierarchy of Agents for Domination Over the World I think something like "SHADOW forever!" has a nice extended meaning.

Frank Welker was the voice of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. Similar groups, to be sure.
