Injustice Gang IC: Chapter 4- Bad Times

Postby Horsenhero » Tue Nov 27, 2012 12:28 pm

The Darkside-

Once again the middle of the day finds the young "villains of the future" sitting around a table in the seedy bar in the Suicide Slums of Metropolis. Small twinges of guilt pick at some of your consciences. Shouldn't you be out doing something? Sure these days spent loafing, drinking, spending Lex's money were fun and all, but they weren't driving home the point you wanted to make to your parents and mentors. Where was the rebellion? Where was the heroism that would stick in their collective craw...assuming creatures like The Brain had a craw. Heck, what in the name of Superman's dirty shorts was a craw anyway?

So, without any real direction, you sat listening to the debate between the Audit and the Muscle over who was cooler, Superman-blue, Superman-red, classic Superman or that odd phase the man of steel went through where he was sporting a mullet.

And how the heck did he get a haircut anyway? Kryptonite scissors? And who was his barber?

Every now and then, Legs would walk by, clear out old glassware and plop down new drinks. It was hard not to notice the envious looks thrown their way by the other patrons. The Darkside was a bar where badguys went to drown their sorrows. Most of that sorrow was brought on by a lack of financing, so unlike you, many at the bar, Crazy Quilts' gang, the Madmen, Dr. Phosphorus, etc. had no money to really tie one on. In fact, the only person present who wasn't jealous was the pornstar looking guy camped out in a booth in a back corner. He drank for free. He drank a lot. Legs and Irv never cut him off though and never charged him.

Once upon a time, one of you had broached the subject with Legs and she just shrugged. "His name is Vartox. One night, Metallo got a little rowdy and started to bust up the joint. Vartox tossed him out on his kryptonite powered buttocks, with a stern warning to never come back. For saving my bar...he drinks for free."

After about an hour of grousing, drinking and cards, a report comes in off the television that catches your attention:

"This is Cat Grant reporting. With Superman away on Justice League business, Metropolis' Motor City business district is in trouble. As you can see behind me, several creatures, which look like biblical demons are wreaking havoc at the auto dealerships. While there is a lot of mayhem, the majority of the attack seems to be focused on a small used car dealership, Funky Rides."

Feel free to ease your character up to the "critical moment" or simply respond to the crisis. Everyone whose characters are ready to roll, may begin now.

Jade Veil

Gemma furrowed her brow. Even being the daughter of Kobra, she couldn't get a drink. Legs scoffed and simply told her, "No." Gemma had to drink light lemonade, at that. "Five calories, honey. It's a gift," Legs told her.

When the news story came on the TV, Gemma called over to Irv. "Can you turn that up?" She watched with a glimmer in her eye. "Who's having the same idea I'm having?" And she fingered the sword sheathed down the middle of her back while she looked at the some of guys who couldn't seem to keep their eyes in their heads always going on about her rack. "I am an assassin, you know...."

Lex Talionis

Andre had been working towards the start of the rebellious project, but he'd been busy, with running GlobalGreen Corp. and making sure certain devices were in place to aid their collective efforts. So actual heroic activity had been nil.

But here was a convenient opportunity to get started. "I agree." Andre threw a grin to Claudette, whose free hand was entangled with his. "First things first though, who's coming and wants a costume?"
Impeach the peach!

Gloom

"Easy luv...they's not use ta such a pretty bird with such a sharp beak. Sides....they be nickey if they's think they's ken touch...right?" Eddie grinned as he himself leered from the corner of his own eye. "I's agree wits ya.This sounds bout right..." continued as the last of his tenebrous tendrils snaked-upped the last of the bar nuts. As the last three peanuts slide up and over his hand, Eddie begins to roll them between his fingers and over his hand. "Sides...tired of waggin me tongue and nothing else. I says we go and rub it in all their faces...Oy?"

Terry Fortune

Terry sipped on his scotch surveying the bar as he normally does while hanging with his new friends. He didn't actually like scotch all that much, but it's what his father drank...well, at least the man he thought was his father drank, but he thought it was a fine time to switch to something a little more palatable to his young taste buds.

Grabbing the drink menu he opened it to take a quick look to see what perked his interest when he heard Jade ask to turn up the volume on the TV. Standing up, he walked over to the bar to take a closer look before pulling out his iPhone to look up this "Funky Rides" and see what it was all about.

"Who's having the same idea I'm having?"

"You mean cutting that guy's balls off? Can't say that I was Jade.", Terry said sarcastically, "Oh, do you mean about the biblical demons attacking a car dealership?"

Terry would respond to what Gloom had said, but he's still struggling to pickup his accent and already looked like an ass on more than one occasion when he got what he said wrong. Instead he just tossed the menu on the bar.

"Yeah, what the pommie says. Oh, and Legs, you might want to do something about the huge font in that menu, makes it hard to read."

The Darkside-

Irv responded to Gemma's request by picking up the remote behind the bar and turning up the volume so the assassin could hear the live report above the din in the bar. This got the attention of most of the other patrons, except for the mysterious Vartox, who was leaned back in his seat, using his telekinesis to fountain his beer from the mug into his mouth. Taking their collective eyes off her generous bosom to watch the fingers toying with her katana, they wisely stayed silent.

Meanwhile, Terry Fortune has pulled up an advertisement for "Funky Rides" on his phone. The guy in the commercials looks vaguely familiar, but nothing about the dealership immediately screams "target for demonic assault".

Terry can roll a Gather Information check DC10 to identify the man in the commercials.

Putty
HP: 1

"That's gonna be our big statement? Saving a used car dealer?" Putty grunted noncommittally. "Beating down some nameless monsters? The only way that makes the front page is if the cops try to arrest us when we're done." Its form for the night, a man in his early 20s wearing a hoodie and sweat pants, swelled around the chair and reformed to a standing position behind it. "All right. At least it's some action."

Fortune

"Hold up one second Putty", Terry was staring at his phone, "There's something about this guy, I swear I know him from somewhere. Anyone recognize him?"

With that Terry tossed his phone to the nearest of his friends at the bar.

The Boomerang Kid
Carson "Boomer" Mercer
HP: 1

Carson yawned as he leaned back, he wore his large blue trench coat, reminiscent of his Grand father's costume. Was it the best thing to wear when trying to become a hero? Probably not, but it was the most comfortable jacket he owned, and it had a million pockets for all his boomerangs. He reached into his side pocket and pulled out a silver flash and added the thick amber liquid inside to his coke.

Legs had this strange idea about not serving booze to minors. What a weirdo.

He sipped at his mixed drink and enjoyed the rich full flavor when the news came on, yapping about some demons. Some of his companions seemed to leap at the chance to do battle, others seemed to want to ignore it, in favor of a waiting for a better known foe.

Carson on the other hand couldn't care less one way or the other, the only thing he cared about, was checking out Jade. Sure she could eviserate him, cut off his precious bits, and shove it down his throat if he even so much as touched her. But it was that danger that attracted him... that and the thigh high leather boots. Woman had the feet of a goddess.

Terry mentioned thinking he knew the guy on T.V. Carson however could do nothing but shrug, he had no idea who the guy was. He lowered the front legs of his chair down till all four were on the ground, downed his entire drink in one gulp and stood up.

"Aye mates, w'as the consensus? We messin'em up or we lolly gagging around here all night where we can't even get properly snockered. If nuttin' else, we should get us some proper drinks." He asked cheerfully, examining the group one by one, but when he noticed his eyes were lingering a tad to long on Jade he quickly shifted back to the T.V. He had to be careful to not let his eyes linger to long on Jade. He really did enjoy his precious bits attached to his person.
"Whats wrong? You came here expecting to fight a madman, and instead found a god!?"

The Audit

Despite the past few weeks of trying to draw her out, the icy giantess is still shy with the rest of the villainous scions. She progressed from lurking near the group surrounding Andre, to actually sitting at their sprawling table. Still, she spends more time looking for conventional work on her lap top than gossiping with the rest of the gang.

When the gang turned to talking Superman, Claudette (aka Claw) had very limited success drawing Andi into the conversation. Red? Blue? Billy Ray? Finally pressed into offering an opinion, the conservative looking woman finally dropped the "bomb" that her preference had always been Captain Marvel. It's entirely possible that her nearly white cheeks picked up the tiniest hint of pink with that admission.

The struggle to acquire alcohol by some of the younger appearing Injustice Gang both confused her, and didn't at all concern her. She appeared to be a full grown adult (if not overgrown), her passable fake ID provided by her mother was good enough for Legs... and alcohol didn't seem to effect her. She generally drank either plain coffee or some sort of non-alcoholic frozen juice blender drink. Still, she was conservative with her coin and paid her own tab. She rarely let anyone buy her drinks, and never bought for others.

Andi looked up from her lap top -another revision of her resume, and scowled at the television. "Judeo-Christian demons have no business on this realm, if the manual on such things can be believed... although my mother's opinion is that the documents in question are self falsifying." She looks down at her lap top, then back up at the screen. "I don't think those things are what they want us to think they are."

After taking a good look at Terry's phone, Andi saves and closes her resume, and opens her laptop's browser. "He probably isn't who he wants people to think he is, either."
Invisible Castle seems to be down right now. By virtue of Eidetic Memory and having an UnderNet account, The Audit can roll a 1d20+5 to have a good idea who this guy is.

Boomer
HP: 1

Carson smirked as Audit spoke. She always sounded like a lawyer when she spoke, atleast when ever it was on a topic she had figures and statistics for. When it came to mundane chit chat, she was as shy as shy could be. It was cute. "Aye, good point, Luv. Might be da demons be a world famous villian in disguise."

Jade Veil

"We can sit here and speculate or we can get eyes on and assess the situation properly," Gemma said more to herself than anyone else. But she did add for Audit's benefit, "Don't underestimate the mystic--it's quite real."

Psyke

Psyke's rapport with the group was fairly relaxed. He passed himself off as laid back and agreeable, often quiet, speaking when he had insight or opinion, but never anything he hadn't thought out well before opening his mouth. He didn't drink like some of the others, citing that it was dangerous for a mentalist to drink and that he preferred sugar water anyways, that it stimulated his brain. Often when they were just hanging out at The Darkside, he'd either be casually conversing with the others, listening mostly, but chiming in when his opinion was important or asked for, but otherwise seemed to be dozing, like right now.

Casey was pretty well leaning back in his seat the last hour or so, ball cap pulled down to cover his eyes, and in general, didn't seem like he was paying much attention to anything at the moment, but his sharp ears were listening to everything. He was ready to get out there and put this insane plan to work, though Putty was right. Saving a used car dealership was a pretty weak premier, though demons made for a pretty impressive foe, though he'd never tried to affect a demon before, and wasn't sure how well that'd go down. It'd be an interesting test.

He had his uniform under his street clothes, blue jeans and a grey long-sleeve shirt with a black long coat and cap over it. The costume was the only thing his father gave him, and despite having some beef with the man, the costume did have some protective weave in it that made it worth wearing. He wasn't riding armor or made of pliable material like some people.

Tipping his cap into a normal position, he leans forward in his chair, letting the front legs thump down. "Well, I'm bored here. We could do worse than fighting demons, even if they are just wrecking a used car lot."

Gloom

"Keep in mind mates....someone has these blokers on a leash. Demons don't spontaneously pop up...anymore," Eddie replied. With a quick flip of his hand, Eddie sends the peanuts up in the air. Leaning his head back, he catches every single one in his open mouth...all the while another tenebrous tendril snakes out and grabs abottle of water under the counter. Popping the lid off, Eddie takes a long cold drink and winks at Legs, "I'll cover that...when I get back." Reaching out to the shadows in the bar, Eddie begins to blur a little around the edges, "I'm ready."

The Darkside-

As everyone seemed to be accepting the idea of battling demons destroying a used car dealership, Andi took a good look at the image on Terry's phone. It took her a moment (literally) to run through the images catalogued in her mind and what they related to before she placed the slick looking man with perfectly coiffed hair, expensive suit and diamond pinky ring. Funky Flashman.

Funky Flashman, the onetime promoter of Mister Miracle who'd tried to steal Mother Box technology from the New God.

Funky Flashman, the silver tongued grifter who manipulated the Secret Society of Super-Villains into stealing the magical artifacts the Wizard needed to re-empower himself after his manna began to fade.

Funky Flashman, a criminal so smooth, even Batman had never managed to put him behind bars.

Funky Flashman...who somehow had brought the wrath of demons down upon his legitimate business front

I DO so love digging up semi-obscure characters not statted up in H&V. Especially goofy villains like this guy.
