“Right, wrecking balls bad. Got it Doc.” Hornet gave him a smile and a thumbs up sign to go along with the bad joke. “As for Firefly, I’ve gotta idea for the next time I run into her that should have her seeing stars and not me.”

Jean Phillipe wrote: "Fine news then." Jean Phillipe replies in that soothing voice with that ever so slight french accent "Sir the young lady awaits your company."

Hornet looks over at the Jean Phillipe with a bit of a confused expression. “Did I have an appointment I forgot about? What’s the lady's name?”

"The answers in order asked would be Yes for your new assistant, and Ms. Karen Reynolds." Jean Phillipe replies evenly while gesturing to lead the way.

Patiently he waits as you gather yourself together, only turning to go when you join him falling into stride easilly with you as he makes his way to the guest atrium.

Getting a blood sample was a better head start than Chris had expected. A hell of a lot better. Not that it would help right away but down the road. Dirt might help more but it might also be useless. Too many places had dirt after all. The actual print of the shoe might help too. He made sure to get a nice picture of it for pattern matching. The fact that stuff was just taken at random suggested this was a cash grab, nothing more. He'd have to have someone look into all the usual places stolen jewelry got sold. All in all, it looked like a typical robbery. Until you considered the electrical burns.

The electrical burns suggested some sort of powers. Which meant that ID-ing the perp would be trival once he was found. Super-crooks never went down without a fight. It made things go easy once the trial started. It was getting there that was the trick.

Chris asked the police investigator to start checking over known fences and pawn shops while he took the evidence samples back to the base for more detailed work.

Investigate check (1d20 + 11=22) eh... I'll actually reroll that.
Investigate check (1d20 + 11=12) Nice wasted HP there. :roll: Any chance the snazzy forensics lab gives a bonus? ;}
Profession(forensics) (1d20 + 8=24) Dunno if this will help but throwing it out there

Back at the bases lab your investigation continues to prove fruitful. The Blood sample brings an automatic DNA match which given the electrical powers used makes a lot of sense.

The records link back to someone who should have been fried in the electric chair 5 years ago. Jimmy Kaatz, AKA Felix Winger, AKA Walter Smith, AKA The Electrocutioner. A nasty piece of work who somehow escaped a florida death chamber when a freak lightning bolt struck the prison at the exact moment the electric chair was activate.

They thought hed been incinerated by the accident but it was later revealed hed survived. The Electrocutioner as he took to calling himself has since gone on a 5 year spree of bank robberies, murder, and mayhem. Hes wanted in multiple states including Florida who wants to make sure they finish the job this time.

The cash grab also makes sense given the identity of the perp. Kaatz is known to live high on the hog and well beyond his means which leads him to running out of cahs fast. He then robs banks to finace his lifestyle. He also robbed 2 casinos known to be owned by the Crime Syndicate. Rumors have ciruclated that they have a price on his head. He may be desperate because his usual MO is high stakes bank robberies, so this is out of his normal MO.

The Dirt also leads to an interesting discovery. The Dirt is flecked with Horse manure and oats. This can lead to a single conclusion, hes been around a horse training facility and in the case of Bay City that means the Bay City downs a race track in the Redwood City area which has legal gambling and a casino owned by the Mojave tribe.

This means he might be hanging around the casino or even hiding out in or near the track. Why he might be there is unknown given that he likes to lives high on the hog.

The Police investigator also calls you and gives you the name of 3 local fences who would be most likely to be willing and able to fence that much actual jewelry. he could just pawn it mind you, hed need a high money high risk fence with connections to the local and foreign jewelry markets.

no need go ahead and keep the hero point and yes the forensiscs capacity of the lab gives an automatic +4 to any Invesitgation or gather information roll due to its mastercrafted tools and equipment, and extensve database.

the professions forensics can also give you a +2 bonus with a successful roll which it did so yed you first roll was more then sufficent.

you suiddes out the most likey suspect, his possible location, and where he might go to fence the jewerly.

"That isnt helping..." Ashley adds at your back as you leave her in the library shaking her head.

As you walk you see Mr. Saito the groundskeeper working on one of the numerous shrubberies around the island. He pauses only momentarily to look up at you and nod in your direction with a knowing smile before resuming his work.

"Nosey B@stard we should tear his heart out and feast on it." the voice snears in your head"Hes a threat to us, and so is the woman." it insists.

As Jean Phillipe leads you to the Atrium you pass Elena who gives you a nod and a subtle wink that seems to say "Go get em tiger."

waiting in the atrium is a lovely young woman with glasses and her long darkbrown hair is in a simple ponytail. Shes dressed in a simple business suit and nearby you see a case designed to carry a laptop and other instruments useful to your trade.

As she turns to Jean Phillipes ever subtle getting of her attention she smiles brilliantly and nearly trips over herself in the haste to shake your hand.

"Oh dead, oh my. I am so honoroed to meet you Hornet!" she practicaly stumbles over her speech as she smiles rrilliantly enough to brighten the room inspite of the sunlight pouring through the atrium. "Ohmygawd I'm such a goof, my names Karen Reynolds." she adds as if she just suddenly remembered to introduce herself.

Kris Majax

Kris pinches the bridge of his nose and squeezes his eyes shut. He wants nothing more that to scream at the voice to be quiet, but that only feeds it.

<He's no threat, and neither is she. They just wants to help us.>

Not satisfied, Kris stomps off to a private space in the garden and tries to meditate.

Unfortunately, he isn't skilled enough to meditate through the mental equivalent of a pebble hitting him in the face every 10 seconds.

<If I get an extra rare steak, will you please give me five minutes peace?> He knows its almost pointless to bargain with it, but it had to get tired sometime.

Kris

an ice cold shudder runs down your spine and back up again as you get the impression that your "friend" has just smiled the most predatory and terrible smile you can imagine before it directly responds to you.

"Only if you carve it off a virgins rump yourself." the voice sneers before Howling with a demonic laugh that simultaneously chills your soul and grates on your spine and nerves like razor blades run along metal pipes.

Kris flinches as the laughter rang through his soul.

He had already cancelled shows for this week. There is no way he could run through a show, especially not with kids, while he was like this.

He needs help.

Once again Hornet is so glad he designed his helmet to cover the majority of the upper part of his face, that way all he had to do was keep his jaw from hanging open when he first saw Karen. She might end up being a bit more of a distraction than a helper if he didn't watch himself.

When she stumbled, Hornet moved to help her steady herself by taking her hand in his. Once she was stable and had introduced herself Hornet couldn't help but smile himself; he remembered meeting his first super hero. It didn't help it was one of his brother's sometimes partners (who just happened to be a very attravtive lady either but that's a story for another time). "Hello Miss Reynolds." He answered back as he gave her hand a polite amount of shakes.

"So you made the final cut for working in the labs?" He said as he gestured for them to sit down at one of the few tables that had been set in the atrium so that people could sit and relax while enjoying the scenery.

Hornet hated to admit it but with everything he's had going on this last week, he hadn't been paying much attention to the progress of hiring the assistant he'd asked for. This of course just proved his point that he needed one, it would be a massive help to him.

"Yep thats me!" She chirps happily and gifts you with yet another brilliant smile "I was sooo hoping theyd pick me especialy after you guys saved my bacon at the mall back then."

Her eyes suddenly widen as if she just remembered something and she reaches down and picks up an easy carry case from which she pulls a notebook which she hands to you, "Oh you probably want to see my work."

The notebook upon examination is a picture in brilliance from your perspective. She has a degree from MIT in Thermal engineering and secondary honors for physics and theoretical mathematics. All in all an impressive resume and one worthy to work in any Oracle lab. She migth also be able to help you with a few of the design flaws as you see them in the armor.

She also has a solid professional credentials with references from several big names in the fields including your old mentor Dr. Charles Epps which explains her solid ability with Theoretical mathmatics and game theory.

All of which she exitedly points out to you as you read, even throwing in a humerous annecdote about a final year prank where the class used a universal bonding agent to glue the super intendants desk furniture to the ceiling of his office... with him in it. Dont ask.

Needless to say its pretty clear that she is fully capable of assisting you on multiple potential projects, which given your current busy status would be a boon. Add in that she seems a perfectly friendly and charming young lady.

Ashley was worried about Kris. They had only been an item for a short while, so it wasn't like she expected to know every detail about him and what made him tick, but she'd have to be blind to notice how very very off he seemed. He seemed stressed out constantly, on edge. She'd almost diagnose it as shell shocked, except there wasn't any trigger. Of course, when the guardians seem to have set her number to speed dial, Ashley hasn't exactly been in any kind of position to be supportive.

After Kris Storms off, Ashely continued going through the library. Certainly her Ring had spoiled her, with its ability to provide information at the drop of a hat. But it didn't have any useful texts on magic, which is why she'd been putting time into the books the old fashion way. Least the ring translated everything for her, which saved a huge amount of time when pushing through dusty old times written long before the English language had been created. Almost all of it went over her head, but it just wasn't in her nature to sit on her hands and do nothing.

Mostly, she just wanted a sign of what to do. Something she could direct her willpower towards.

Green Lantern

Perhaps its the odd nature fo magic, or perhaps its as Johnny LIang once proposed a clashing of genres but you just cant quite wrap your head around what some of these tomes are talking about. Sure some of the concepts seem simple enough basic explantions of deification, or avatars or simple possession. But others just fly right over your head and or are written in such a tone and or language that makes you feel like your trying to do thew New York times crossword puzzle in russian while reading a dictionary on japanese.

Its only after Kris storms out and your own frustration over this intolerable situation begins to build that Jean Phillipe turns up and quietly refills a mug youve been drinking from with a warm, and fragrant tea of his own blend.

"No luck so far?" he asks in a tone that seems to say he knows but wants to give you the chance to vent to a willing ear.

The Electrocutioner. That brought a lot of things to mind. First, that shopkeeper was lucky to survive. Second, this was going to be an ugly case. And third, it was a good opportunity to bring the guy down. All things considered, he supposed it could have been worse.

Chris decided to let the police handle trying to track down the stolen jewelry. Better to head down to the track/casino and see what he can dig up there. He could go undercover and have a look around, ask a few questions. Hopefully posing as an unpowered investigator would lead Kaatz to confront him rather than go deeper into hiding.

A few hours later, he arrived at the track and started looking around.

Take 20 on Disguise for a ... 20. Just to look like a normal guy with a hat and coat, nothing fancy.

Kris stop fighting the voice. He knows its pointless.

He also knows he needs help; he's just not sure where. He made this problem for himself, who could he ask to help him.

Dr Arcane? Surely the man has more problems then one lost soul. Especially after all he has already done for Kris.

Lady Grey? Be serious.

Ashley? No. Ashley has been so busy lately, he can't burden her with his problems.

He pulls himself off the ground and passes Saito without a word as he heads for kitchen, looking for something to eat; hoping for something tangible to distract him from the voice.
