target area means its a single attack roll vs everything in the blast radius, as opposed to the auto-hit of a standard area effect. no ref save, but the onus is on the attacker beating the defense score

Yeah, as Yeo pointed out in Invasion, Targetted Area Effects can be quite the kicker. No Reflex save, No Evasion, the only thing you have is your normal Defense vs. their Attack roll.

in fact, having seen how devastating it is several times now (from both ends), its deadly enough that i'm wondering if we should remove it from further games

It at least needs a greater drawback.

Shouldn't it have hit Reich and his cronies, not to mention the monsters? "Targeted" doesn't mean "gets free Selective Attack".

Its definitely up there with Range Perception Area Effects.

However, given how INSANELY unbalanced Evasion is, I think removing it completely is uncalled for. Two points gives you Limited Immunity to Area Effects with Full Immunity on a Reflex save. Just reserving it for selective use, for the really serious bad guys, is appropriate.

Well, I'm not sure, but yes, I think Targeted Area attacks still require Selective or otherwise they hit everyone in the area-its just that a roll is required.

Of course, as Reich has said, he probably wouldn't even care if he did get hit.

Yes, but any little bit helps our characters. At least to keep the enemies distracted long enough to run away.

I don't think anybody other than Chris is considering running.

I am starting to think that sums up her character in this game.

I'm gonna wait to see how Crinos treats Jabra's attack and if it hits his allies. As an Explosion Area effect, it certainly should, along with the other monsters and spectators, unfortunately.

Chris definitely seems out of her element - kind of like Rin was at the beginning of Chivengers. I think if Rin were on this team from the start he would have turned out very different and stayed the whole time. He really needed someone to show him how to be a hero, and that group just wasn't geared for that they way Elasto and Xiao are, even Omni to a good extent.
That is kind of why he has tried to open up on a few occasions, though Joyboy screwed up some of that. Now that Troy is coming back at the very end of this adventure, I can see if I can work something with him, maybe Rin can talk to Troy about getting Chris more involved.

Hey, if you want to remove targeted area attacks, then I'm going to veto using All out attack and Power attack in conjunction on the same roll, cause all you guys abuse the hell out of that.

I am fine with leaving them both in or throwing them both out.

I had less issue with Targeted Area attacks and more with the fact that it seemed Targeted was being used to include Selective for Free.

I see no point in outlawing something because honestly, if the GM just wants to kill us, he can do it. He's the GM.

"And then Galactus ate the planet while you were sleeping."

"And then Genis-Vell chained and killed Eternity-destroying the entire universe."

"And then Tempus ignited the Cuban Missile Crisis into a full-scale nuclear war in the past, so your parents all died before you were born."

I'm not going to throw anything out, I'm just pointing out that I'm not the only one using rule exploits. Heck, I add All out/Power attack to all my characters now after playing with you guys.
