The New FORCE Ops [IC: 8]: The World of Shadows

Susan didn't have time to dodge the counter attack. She didn't know if her reaction had been slowed due to the activities of the last several days, a clear sign that age was catching up to her, or if the damage from all the subsequent attacks had finally slowed her enough for someone to take advantage of it but none of that really mattered as she was caught square in the blast radius of the flying lizards attack. She dropped to a knee and tried to force the green mist from her lungs as nearly every muscle in her body began to cramp up from the noxious gas.

On hand went out to the ground to stops her from just falling over period.

Toughness Save (1d20+5=18)
HP Reroll Toughness Save (1d20+5=8) Frack same roll lol. Staggered and Stunned.

You know I'm not a huge fan of the GM Fiat on attack rerolls against heavily defense shifted characters. Their Defensive bonus is their Toughness and the HP you get for the fiat is almost going to have to be spent every time just as soon as you get it to save your ass from the roll if it even can, so not much of a conciliation prize. The defense shifted character is already at a disadvantage against the toughness shifted ones without a GM basically deciding when their bad guys hit and when they miss. It can get kind of frustrating.

Warshade: The arms of purple energy you send out hit all of your intended targets, but due to his massive size and weight Mammuthus isn't moved at all and only grunts as your attack hits him while Doctor Shock's immediately surroundeds himself with electrical energy and moves a few feet back with the attack before coming to a complete stop on his high tech platform.

The others however, are nowhere near as fortunate as your nitcus energy sends them sprawling back like trash thrown from a moving vehicle. All of them scatter and hit the surrounding trees of the clearing, making loud cracking and snapping sounds as they impact against the large, solid trees and leaving obvious body sized dents against them from the amount of force you sent them off with to slump down to the ground momentairly vulnerable. An added bonus is that two of the wolfmen poof away into nothingness the instant they hit a tree, leaving only their creator and one other duplicate.

I'm ok with Improved Trip being used.
That attack will hit all of them & I will say that the trees have a Toughness 6.
Salamander's Reflex Check: (1d20+8=18). Failed, so he's suffering a Knockback 5 (25 ft). The Knockback damage he suffers is a Toughness DC 21, Toughness Save: (1d20+11=12). Stunned & Bruised damage & is prone.

the Pack's Strength Check: (1d20+6=13, 1d20+6=20, 1d20+6=17, 1d20+6=8). All of them failed, so they are suffering a Knockback 7 (100 ft). The Knockback damage they suffer is a Toughness DC 22, Toughness Saves: (1d20+8=25, 1d20+8=19, 1d20+8=24, 1d20+8=21). Dupe #2 & #3 fail and disappear, the original and dupe #4 take no damage but are prone.

Manikin's Strength Check: (1d20+7=24). Failed, so he's suffering a Knockback 6 (50 ft). The Knockback damage he suffers is a Toughness DC 22, Toughness Save: (1d20+10=12). Stunned & Bruised (x2) & is prone.

Komodo's Strength Check: (1d20+5=14). Failed, so he's suffering a Knockback 7 (100 ft). The Knockback damage he suffers is a Toughness DC 17, Toughness Save: (1d20+8=10). That's a Stun & a Bruise & he has another one since he was in the air and got knocked back & hit a tree, so now he hits the Ground (Toughness DC 15). 2nd Toughness Save: (1d20+8=21), no damage there but he's prone as well.

Mammuthus' Reflex Check: (1d20+5=23). Failed, but with his Large size (+4 bonus), 1 rank of Immoveable & Impervious Toughness 12 he's not moved at all.

Dr. Shock's Reflex Check: (1d20+8=27). Made the save. No Knockback for him.

As the battle started, Aurora seemed slow off the mark. She just held her staff in both hands and waited. What wasn't obvious was the power she was focusing into the staff. The faintly visible blue glow was soon washed out by the explosion of purple energy from her ally.

"Warshade, good idea!" she shouted. "Time for the old one-two punch!"

A blue glowing circle of runes appears at Aurora's feet. The light intensified as she floated a couple meters into the air, the power blowing her cloths and hair as though she was above a powerful fan.

"Chinook!"

"L'OURAGAN!"

Then the world went blue. Pure force magic exploded outwards, flowing around FORCE Ops, but striking everything else. When the light faded the land was scoured and Aurora was standing between Susan and the closest foe still standing.

Power Stunt - Damage 10, Burst, Selective. 2 ranks of Increased Area. 250' range.
If TM is willing, I'll also put distracting and secondary effect on it but I'd understand if you weren't cool with that. Ignoring Allies and trees more then 50' away unless they are between her and one of the bad guys.

Aurora: The blue-white wave of energy felt gentle as a summer's breeze to the members of FORCE Ops, but to Doctor Shock and his minions it felt much more forceful and painful.

Maninkin, Salamander and Komodo were unable to get themselves clear of the attack and they're pushed back against the trees they'd just hit against as the mystical energy hammered their bodies even more than Warshade's attack had just done.

The Pack and it's one remaining dupe however were able to recover enough to get roll with the force of the attack, saving themselves from taking further injury for the moment while Mammuthus totally withstands the attack with only a grunt of annoyance.

Doctor Shock surprisingly takes the attack almost as well as Mammuthus; he is buffered back and lets out a surprised noise that is lost in the attack but when the magical light subsides he is still standing on his platform. "Fascinating. Manipulation of various energy signature across multiple wavelengths. I will learn much from you."

Gonna say no to the distracting and secondary effect on the Power Stunt.
But I'm going to rule that since Manikin, Komodo and Salmander are Stunned & Prone they auto-fail the Reflex Save of the attack, which is a Toughness DC 25.

Manikin's Toughness Save: (1d20+9=20), a fail by 5 which earns him another Bruise (3 total)

Komodo's Toughness Save: (1d20+7=16), that's a fail by 11 so he's Staggered & Stunned (some more).

Salamander's Toughness Save: (1d20+10=23), that's another Bruise for him (3 total).

the Pack's Reflex Saves: (1d20+10=11, 1d20+10=28), the original fails while the dupe makes it, so half damage for it.
Their Toughness Saves: (1d20+8=27, 1d20+8=25), both make it.

That attack doesn't beat Mammuthus' ranks of Impervious Protection, so no damage for him.

Dr. Shock's Toughness Save: (1d20+12=25), no damage.

Evas response to that was to Amp up the suits energy and channel it into her Power Burst. The Burst was rendered unstable and very short ranged but it was brutally powerful capable of chewing through even the toughest armor.

Like Elephant hide.

"Hey Jumbo, stick this in your trunk!" she snapped as the mini Star on her hand flared with a high pitched whine and then snapped out full force and right in the elepnatine mans face.

Evas going all out shell power Attack for max -5/+5 her power burst 20 shoudl hit the big guy and thats a DC 29 with +9 penetrating on the attack.

Vindicator: The unstable ball of plasma ebbs and pulses as it travels towards Mammuthus, then finally giving up it's fight to remain stable. When the flare dies down Mammuthus' face and upper portion of his chest is charred and blackened with several chunks missing and burnt, tender muscle exposed.

Mammuthus is forced to one knee from a combination of the force of the blast and the pain he's just experienced, the look on his face makes it obvious that he's not been hit like that very often and he is struggling to adapt to this new set of sensations he's currently experiencing.

That does hit and it's penetrating is enough to get past Mammuthus' Impervious.
Mammuthus' Toughness Save: (1d20+12=17), and that's a fail by 12 so he's now Staggered & Stunned.

Susan tried to steady her breath but the gas that hit her wasn't allowing it. It felt like a more concentrated form of the CS Gas that the military used. It caused her eyes to burn and she had to fight the automatic urge to shut them. She was trying to blink and force tears into her eyes to clear it away but it wasn't quite working and it didn't help that she was having trouble catching a breath. The gas was restricting her lungs so that she couldn't take more than the most shallow of breaths and it felt as if she had a two hundred pound weight across her chest. She could ignore the burning pain all over her exposed skin where the gas particles had clung to the sweat and oils that her body had produced during the series of fights they had for what felt like the past week.

For right now she was out of the fight. She couldn't even focus on the action around her.

She's still stunned for this round so I can't do anything.

K-9: As Aurora's massive magical attack as left the lizard-man unavailable for the moment, K-9 focuses his attention on the two that are currently still on their feet - the Pack. With a snarl and show of his fangs, K-9 crosses the distance and tackles one to the ground then rolls with the momentum and springs up at the other, his claws reaching out as he half yelled, half growled. "No fool my nose! You alpha!"

The multiplying creature let loose a howl of pain just before falling to the ground from the vicious attack K-9 had struck him with, and before his head hit the ground his last duplicate poofed back into the nothingness he'd been summoned from.

K-9 stayed hunched down as he pointed a bloody claw at Doctor Shock. "Ben-e-factor is going down no matter how many goons you have."

I didn't know if you were going to spend an HP to get rid of the Stun condition CD, just wanted to give you a chace.
I forgot that K-9 goes before Dovetail, so I'll take care of that now.

K-9 is doing a Trip Attack: (1d20+10=22), which hits. His Trip Check: (1d20+4=12).
The Pack's dupe's Resist Trip: (1d20+6=8), he fails and is flat on his back.

K-9's Suring for a second attack on the alpha Pack & he's using All-Out Attack & Power Attack on this one, -5/+5 each.
K-9's Melee Attack [AoA & PA]: (1d20+10=22), that hits. Toughness DC 30.

The Pack's Toughness Save: (1d20+8=14), owch... that's a fail by 16 so he's out & that'll make his dupe go away.

Liz saw that the only member of Dr Shock's forces still close by was Mammuthus and he was still down. She she went to make sure he stayed down. A quick teleport had her right next to him and grabbed with a glowing purple fist.

Spending a HP to push off Fatigue.
Then Gravity Well attack.
Gravity Well attack (1d20 + 9=12) Yesh. Well with him being prone and stunned maybe it'll hit right? Toughness DC25 and Reflex DC 20.

Warshade: Mammuthus is still reeling from Vindicator's attack and isn't able to get clear of your quick touch that releases a burst of gravitational energy that quickly pulls him down to the ground as his personal mass increases to the point where even his strength can't hold up for the moment.

Well the ranks of Strike don't beat Mammuthus' ranks of Impervious so no damage there.
The Snare on the other hand is a whole other matter.
Mammuthus' Reflex Save: (1d20+5=14), that's a fail by 6 which leaves him bound and helpless.

"I don't like hitting someone when they are helpless but..." Aurora brings Chinook in line with the wounded giant.

A familiar glowing ball of energy forms at the tip of the staff.

1d20+10=19 All-out Power Attack 5. DC30 + Autofire Toughness save. Hopefully Mammuthus' impervious isn't high enough to ignore a +15 attack.

Aurora: With Mammuthus fighting against Warshade's gravity well holding him in place the large mutated animal-man is an easy target for your attack as the ball of mystical energy connects with his body and lets loose several 'strands' of energy that strike different spots on Mammuthus' massive frame.

When all the light finally fades away, the once lumbering giant is left reeling from the assault and still held captive in Warshade's trap.

Yeah that's a hit, especially with Mammuthus being helpless & all, .
So that attack gets the full Autofire bonus, so by my figures that'll make it a DC 35 total.
Mammuthus' Toughness Save: (1d20+12=30)...wow IC actually likes one of these guys? He's Stunned & Bruised.

That'll end the 2nd round and bring us to the top of the 3rd, which will bring it to Manikin's turn.

In the State Forest: Manikin and Salamander both manage to regain their senses following Warshade and Aurora's double-team attack as both of them pull themselves back up and rejoin the fight, though they're both starting to show that they've been in a fight; Manikin's clothing is torn and ripped in various places and Salamander has several cuts and bruises all over his chest.

Manikin, seeing Aurora as the bigger threat now following her latest attack, moves towards her with deadly intent.

Salamander goes back to K-9, as the mutated marvel has been the one to do the most to injure him and he appears to be more animal than man in his mentality.

Meanwhile Doctor Shock moves to access a control panel on the platform he's stayed on so far as the fight continues.

Manikin & Salamander both do a double move action this turn to get back on their feet & in the fight while Doctor Shock keeps himself busy for the moment.

"Dont be reckless Eva." Daedelus used to remind her all the time. "Your intellect and skills mean you need to be cautious in a fight." he would lecture her constantly.

This time though Eva decided that a more Johnny Rocket approacht o things might serve a better purpose.

Sweeping in low Eva transfered all her energy to the suits intra weave muscularture. This enhanced her strength to considerable levels, which in this case was more then sufficent to grab hold of Mammuthus and heft the oversized Elepahtoid off the ground.

Then with a pulse of antigravitic energy she shot off the ground and skyward going as high as she could before arcing downward like a ballistic missile rearrianging her "passenger" so that his oversized tusked noggin was aimed downward. focusing all her energy into the antigrav systems she shot off at high rate of speed before finally letting Mammuthus go mere moments beofre impact.

Right on top of Doctor Shocks Noggin.

Ok. To specify actions in order.

Free action transfer Array to Strength. Strength should be more then enough to lift Mammuthus.

Grabbing him while hes stunned bound and helpless and lifting him should near about be a move action at this point.

Then standard action to go as close to all out speed as possible straught up before using flight to then go back down at full speed.

The intent is to drop the near 1 ton Mammuthus right on Doctor shocks noggin and add in either her flight speed and or terminal velocity per the falling rules to net the +10 bonus to Mammuthuses damage when he lands.

If she needs to shell surge and fatigue herself this time instead of the suit.

basicaly shes imparting her flight speed and strength and super strength bonus to Mammuthus weight and toughness to turn him into a very big bomb.

In the Forest: Mammuthus offers no kind of resistance to Vindicator grabbing him and flying him high into the air, many miles above the tree line of the forest and back down again like a biological missile.

One that is aimed directly for Doctor Shock.

However as Mammuthus' massive body is a few feet away from the platform Doctor Shock has been observing the fight from, the nightmarish doctor's previous actions reveals itself as a force field becomes visible and Mammuthus' body is almost immediately destroyed in the resulting impact and release of energy of the field attempting to absorb the force of his body's impact against it.

But it's not for nothing however as the massive release of energy backlashes against the platform; destorying it in short order as Doctor Shock moves to get clear of his once higher ground's destruction, landing on the ground as bits and pieces of the platform scatter all around following a shockwave of force that all of you are barely able to withstand.

Several moments slowly tick away as everyone recovers from the effects of the destructive blast that just happened. Everything seems to be moving almost in slow motion and nothing sounds right, almost like a tunnel now surrounds the scene of the fight and the daylight beaming down from overhead is almost too bright for you eyes to handle so soon after the almost blinding release of energy the platform's destruction gave off.

Doctor Shock is left laying on the ground, seemingly stunned from the destruction of his platform as his personal force field barely managed to save him from the worst of it. However he is suffering from the same weakness all of you are and it is almost a new set of sensations for him given how rare it is for him to be so directly involved a conflict.

K-9 is the first to recover himself and wastes no time in making his move; loping over the short distance between himself and Doctor Shock and grabbing the mad scientist up by the collar of his now stained and tattered lab coat.

With effort the dogman restrains his anger at the being who he'd just learned a short time ago was the one responsible for giving him life. "Be-ne-fac-tor going down." K-9s' lips pull back in a half snarl as he speaks, showing fangs that have been recently stained with blood from his last opponent. "For all things done to K-9 and many others. You not Be-ne-fac-tor, just Scar-faced Dok-tor and will not ever hurt any-oth-er."

"But I have much more work to do Subject 11." Doctor Shock quietly answers as he carefully reaches into one of the pockets of his coat, pulling out a small device that has several buttons and presses a specific set.

Its effect is immediate as the bodies of the multiplying wolf-man that was called the Pack and the flying lizard-man who called himself Komodo both begin to smoder, giving off a rank and putrid smell that almost burns the inside of everyone's nose as their bodies quickly breakdown into a biological black sludge that stains the ground they'd been laying on and the plant life near them begins to rot away from exposure to whatever it is they're bodies have now been turned into. Manikin meanwhile makes a few clicking noises as his body twitches and jerks like someone having a seizure before becoming dead still.

K-9 however feels an odd popping sensation deep within his body and suddenly Doctor Shock's body becomes almost more than he can hold up. As his grip weakens the mutated marvel finds that he no longer has the strength to hold himself up right anymore and as he sinks down to the ground Doctor Shock stands tall over him. "I wish there had had been time to study all of the effects an urban environment had on you Subject 11." Doctor Shock sounds almost annoyed as he says this.

He then regards the rest of FORCE Ops for a moment as his head shakes slightly from side to side. "Such a waste of rare data." With that he pulls another device from another of his many pockets and presses the big red button on it, disappearing in a flash of light and leaving you surrounded by all the destruction of your fight and the remains of his minions.

K-9 is still laying on the ground and it looks like he is having trouble breathing.

Like I said in the OOC, I'm allowing Vindicator to grab Mammuthus and take him up then use him as a weapon against Doctor Shock but she has to Surge to do it all.

Now that said I'm ruling that between Vindicator's enhanced strength, flight and a natural 20 attack roll she's making a Toughness DC 32 attack that hits.

However Doctor Shock had activated some protective measures on his turn. Specifically a massive Force Field [rank 12; Imperivous 12, Subtle 2].

So yeah this is a case of almost unstoppable force meeting the immovable object. Time for GM creative license here and for the big finish on this fight.
