Where else would you be recalling knowledge from if not your own memories?
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult, but I'm curious as to the thoughts regarding this.
I understand limiting it to not apply in certain circumstances, such as when researching something online/in a book (finding knowledge you didn't already have and thus can't possibly 'remember'), or using an expertise skill to DO something rather than remember something, or even figuring out how to APPLY the knowledge, but knowledge itself is literally what you know (can remember) about a specific subject.

*EDIT: hmm, Alternative thought : Would you allow me to take a couple ranks of 'minion' in my suit and have it function as an AI, then just have the AI do what AI's are supposed to do, and look stuff up for me(Give it some knowledges etc)? He does after all have access to advanced technology from multiple dimensions..
I've done this with other characters, it shouldn't be too hard, if it's OK with you.

Second Alternative : I read a thread on someone using Eidetic Memory + Second Chance: Knowledge Skills to simulate being 'fairly good at knowing stuff' without having a high bonus.. would something like that work?

I'd like the character to be half-ways decent at Knowledge skills(Able to fill in around a +5 for anything we don't have a specialist in, but no competition with an actual specialist) without being a super-genius (high int would be the easiest way to go) or spending dozens of points on skills. (there's 15 knowledge skills!)

Actually, there's technically an unlimited amount of knowledge skills, as you can put in whatever you like. I would recommend asking yourself, it it necessary to your concept for your character to have at least professional level training in every Knowledge skill? If so, then you'll probably just need more Intellect to go with Eidetic Memory. You can have a Minion that just has a bunch of ranks in Knowledges if you want, but of course asking it for any info will take a move action on your part (issuing a command). And if it's a Minion, it will be targetable and harmable, unless it has appropriate powers to prevent this. Second Chance would have to be applied to a specific Knowledge skill, as usual.

It actually seems to kinda make sense for a black hole to negate the Dodge resistance check. But something else to note, if your goal is to have it both pull targets in and damage them simultaneously, you'll need Move Object Linked to Damage. The Damaging Extra on Move Object allows the effect to damage targets, while also being able to move them, not do both at the same time.

Yes, I planned on using the part that says 'including dealing damage during grabs'. The black hole 'grabs' everyone/thing within range, and starts pulling them towards it. AFTER it's grabbed them (AKA subsequent rounds while I'm concentrating), the pull becomes stronger, injuring them. Thematically this would be what happens while everything/one is being 'crushed together' at the center.

Makes sense, sounds good.

jemal wrote:Also, I have three ideas on how to fix the impervious dodge :
First would be an Immunity : Projectiles or Immunity: Attacks against Dodge (Any attack roll vs dodge, doesn't apply to dodge checks vs area effect, nor to perception range attacks that don't USE attack rolls).
I'm thinking 20 or 30 points?

Immunity (Projectiles), assuming it only works on effects requiring Toughness saves, would probably be 5 ranks. Immunity (Attacks Against Dodge) would be pretty costly. Immunity to either Fortitude or Will alone costs 30 ranks, and Immunity to Toughness costs 80. I would say that, seeing as this effectively represents being immune to just under 50% of all attacks, it should cost 40 ranks.

jemal wrote:Alternately, Would you allow Deflect as a Move or free action (limited to self, Limited to Dodge). Still Wouldn't affect perception attacks or Area Effect, would just allow him to 'roll a defense' against.
Possibly also adding Reflect/Redirect to represent him rifting the attack towards a different target.
I know normally the game doesn't allow this, but figured I'd ask with all your house rules if that's OK, b/c that would perfectly resemble what I'm trying to do: Rift is trying to essentially 'catch' ranged attacks at him with defensive rifts.
I would also be willing to make him weaker against melee if this were allowed, to balance it out a bit.

And now you know why I added:
- An effect's duration or action can be changed with Extras/Flaws; +1/-1 pp/rank to go up/down one step for either.

Sounds like what you want would be: Deflect, Reduced Action (Move), Reduced Range, Limited to Self, Limited to Ranged Attacks

jemal wrote:My Final Idea is to just make the 'defensive rifts' a normal dodge/parry power, a type of 'shield' that provides sustained enhanced dodge/parry, and just shift him more defensive (Say 16 dodge/parry 8 toughness), and drop the 'better against ranged' aspect, making him just REALLY hard to hit to begin with.

Of course just Enhanced Defenses is fine.

Well part of it is that I haven't gotten a full handle on 3e yet...I think I'm getting good at it enough to create most any character without too much problem though. However trying to mic in a system I haven't played and making a "Frankenstein" character(mixing two systems) is proving difficult.

I guess my main problem is the skills and how they would interact in 3e...like Concentration? Would for example a Green Lantern type of character have to have and use it for his power ring or what?

Not to mention, the itreative attack things...and how they work and function? Would I theoretically be able to take Takedown 2, Multiattack and the Iterative Attack things to get a crap ton of attacks?

Also when you say we get free things for each rank of Presence...would a skill mastery be allowed(and does it still work/function as it does in 3e...not to mention what skills would be allowed for this), is there a full list that qualifies for this benefit?

There are a couple of other things, but the above are and were my main problems and concerns.

I guess one way around my problems would be to post my sheet or send it to you in a PM as a 3e version and maybe we can work together to get it to fit this game?

Concentration the skill? It's just a skill, like any other. Concentration as a duration for an effect just means you need to take a standard action each round to maintain it. A Green Lantern type character would not necessarily need either.

wulfgar187 wrote:Not to mention, the itreative attack things...and how they work and function? Would I theoretically be able to take Takedown 2, Multiattack and the Iterative Attack things to get a crap ton of attacks?

Yes, yes you could. Of course Takedown only applies to minions, and Multiattack suffers a penalty for attacking multiple targets.

wulfgar187 wrote:Also when you say we get free things for each rank of Presence...would a skill mastery be allowed(and does it still work/function as it does in 3e...not to mention what skills would be allowed for this), is there a full list that qualifies for this benefit?

Hm, I suppose so, assuming it's for a Presence based skill. And yes, Skill Mastery still functions like in 3e. Pretty much any advantage related to interaction, Presence based skills, or affecting other people will work.

Go for it.

Alright I'll work up the sheets for the two characters I've been trying to get put together for this and send them to you in a PM sometime tomorrow...maybe tonight if I can't or don't get to sleep.

Crimson Emperor
Titus Halo

DESCRIPTION: Standing at six and a half feet, dark, broad shouldered and barrel chested, Titus posses an athletic build. He's cut and ripped, being on the lean side still for his size. He inherited dark chocolate eyes, wide cheek bones and dimples from his father. He has medium length cornrows with red and black beads at the end. He's generally dressed in casual black and red timberlands, cuffed, loose fitting blue jeans with a black belt and a sleeveless black t-shirt under a red down vest.

When he becomes the Crimson Emperor, he's covered from head to toe in a deep red, crystal armor.

PERSONALITY: Where Titus was stubborn, he is now confident. Where he was impulsive, he is now passionate. He turned his defiance to determation.

HISTORY: Born on March 29, to Maria Halo, Titus had no dad to speak of and no real guidance at all because his mother's poor health. Still, he knew he was going to have care for her one day, so he stuck to his studies and aimed for college. During his middle and high school years he participated in every sport he could, aimming for a scholarship. Titus is blessed with the good genes of his father, whether he liked it or not. This meant an impressive build and a hardy appetite. He even took a little ballet and karate during his high school football career. Coach said it 'kept ya limber', and he complied.

Once he was old enough, he started a part time job to start saving for his ultimate goal. One of his co-worker introduced the big guy to quick cash, streetfighting. Now, Titus had always enjoyed a good scrap and he really needed the money. That night in a run down building on the edge of town, Titus started building a name for himself in the underground amateur circuit.

The young newcomer steadily became a fan favorite. He could work the crowd, give'em a show and made them laugh with his impromptu smack talk. He was a refreshing change from the normal slug fest they were use to seeing. Beyond the opponents, there was another threat, the long arm of law. They broke down the door a few times but Titus was a little too quick for'em. Thank god for track. He quickly made it out of the scrub league and worked towards bigger and better things. What could he say? He seemed to have knack for it. He made no friends, a lot of enemies and those enemies had friends in higher places.

When he moved to the next rank, he found a lot challengers waiting but he wasn't about to back down. They were trained, coming from various backgrounds. Ex-military, gang members, amateur boxers and fighters all looking for easy money or their big break. Some even out for blood and revenge for their underlings. He came out of each fight more battered, bruised and bloody than the last. Still, he was victorious in the end and got a little stronger each time because of it. That wouldn't be the last time he would hear from them though.

At first his mom didn't say much, knowing that he would get into a scrap every now and then. It wasn't until he started bringing home large sums of money and looked like what the cat drug in that she really worried. She thought her worst fear had finally came true. That he joined a gang. She thought he was smarter than that and all the signs were there. He came in late at night, black eyes, bandaged and with money. Still, it was his life and she had no reason to interfere. She would let him know that she worried about him and prayed for him every night.

Finally, it was time for him to step into the big leagues, the Meta-Brawls, and he was more determined then ever. While the stage was bigger and the stakes were higher, Titus didn't let that shake him. Though, it was only a exhibition match to see if he had the right stuff. He stepped into the ring like he always did but something didn't sit right. There was this pressure pushing against him and once the opponent stepped into the ring, it got heavier. It felt like it was suffocating him. The always boisterous Titus was dead silent, as was the crowd. That night, Titus was introduce to ki. He hardly remembers that night except for vague flashes of the trip to the emergency room and the ensuing explanation to his mother.

He came to find out that many of the big hitters commanded this power and he was going to need it too. Well, he only knew one person that used it and Titus sought him out. It was actually lot easier to than he thought it would be. His opponent that faithful night was know as the Crimson Emperor. He was a heavy drinker and his exploits were easy to follow to his place of residence.

Titus knocked on the door and to his surprise the door was already ajar. The emperor was passed out on his throne, pants around his ankles, floor flooded with empty beer bottles and cans. He tried to wake him but he was as heavy a sleeper as he was a drinker. Though, the mere mentioning of more boozes got him right up. Titus figured that the drunkard was of the active variety because he immediately recognized Titus and knew why he was there.

Titus straight up asked the Crimson Emperor to teach him his ways. He wanted to keep his mom in good health and possibly rid her of the sickness for good. The emperor was full of surprises as he actually said yes. Titus was stunned at his good fortune. When he inquired why he was going to, he simply said, "I like ya kid. Ya got true guts and the balls to back it up. That's something ya don't see now and days." Little did Titus know, this man actually knew his father and that this meeting was more then mere coincidence.

His training started abruptly and right there, with a beer run. First, however, he had him put on a weighted vest. The weights weren't anything at first but over the years, they got far heavier and distance to the liquor store kept getting longer. He would have him awake up at the crack of dawn swimming laps, working every muscle of his body. They would spare, refining his own personal style. All the while, Titus wonder what any of this had to do with ki. He thought it'd be more mystical and have him meditating under waterfalls and shit. Until the day finally came where he let him take off the vest.

He could leap unimaginable distances, run as fast cars and lift them with ease. He always thought the training was so simple. Long and arduous, yes, but simple at the core. The only thing the emperor said that, "The best things in life are." Then, he began his introduction to ki. The old man knew meditation wasn't the way to go, so he beat it into him, literally. He 'experienced' ki countless times until he finally began to feel it, see it and use it. With it, he was able to figure out the signature move of the Crimson Emperor, his Iron Fist. He took the damn thing enough times to say the very least. Then, he thought, maybe that was the plan all along.

Confidence regained, skills refined and ki in fist, Titus wanted to re-entered Meta-Brawl. His master informed that he was not yet ready. He was to go on a pilgrimage to where his master had trained and realize his destiny. Titus, to say the least, was confused but willing. He always felt the old man was holding back on him and this was his chance to see how much. He was to travel the world to Tibet and find Nanda Parbat, a place of healing and enlightenment.

Using the last of his earning, he flew to Asia and scaled the cold, unforgiving mountains of Tibet. Frost bitten and nearly dead, he found the gates and knocked before passing out. He awoke in a simple room in a white gi. He stepped outside to find himself in the place he sought.

They knew his name, why he was there and informed him of the truth. Titus was destined to wield the Dragon Heart, a mystical ruby said to amplifies the users ki beyond mortal realms but only by those who can break it. That is why his Master trained him and that was his destiny. To find Titus and lead him here. So, his true training began in the art of Ki manipulation, not for power but for enlightenment.

He trained long and hard, expanding his horizon and finding his place in the world. It was easy for power to corrupt and mislead, but Titus wanted to be better than that. He heard tales of others before him that lost their way and fell from grace. One such man he was destined to fight, the Thousand Master. He lived for millennia, using dark arts to restore his youth, steal bodies or reincarnate so he continue his conquest of victory and add another style, another technique, another soul, to his repertoire.

It wasn't until the Thousand Master visited him that he realized how daunting a task that would prove. He laid waste to his brothers and masters, all to add the Crimson Emperor style to his list. Titus met him on the field battle, with his heart full of righteous fury but mind calm and serene was he finally able to break the Dragon Heart. It encased him in crimson armor of crystal, bolstering his power to an equal field to that of the Thousand Master.

They fought, neither giving inch or excepting one in return. Each came to realize that no victory would be won but Titus learned that the sacred ground of Nanda Parbat was weakening his opponent. A unfair fight would be meaningless if he won, only allowing the darkness to return. The Thousand Master would give time for Titus to ripen his new power so he could enjoy the challenge and victory when it came.

With his new found powers, Titus decided to return to the outside world to further broaden his horizon and fight for those who could not protect themselves. If he was to face his foe once more, he wanted to be ready.

Actually I'm fairly certain that's a downside of the Summon power, not minions themselves.
Regular minions are free-willed creatures capable of thinking on their own, with a helpful attitude towards you that take their own actions. You can't actually COMMAND them to do things, though since they're helpful they usually do as asked.
Although, since it's essentially a non-combat thing, I don't see it mattering much anyway.

Alright, here's the updated character.
Dropped Plot Device and changed the other things, added another complication. Updated Design Notes also included.

*EDIT: NEW STUFF: Fixed Portal power (Also see notes regarding it for 'custom features'), increased Dante's Sense Motive to +20 with extra skill points to give him a great Assessment check, simulating a kind of 'combat analysis' program.

Rift - PL 12 (180 PP)
-AKA Albert P. Rosen
Background:
Hey. My name's Rift, and I'll be Jemal's application to your 'game'. About now, you're probably thinking to yourself 'oh great, Another fourth wall breaking Deadpool ripoff'. Well sir, to that I would have to say no.. no no no HELL no. First off, I'm not crazy... I don't hear voices in my head, I don't TALK to the voices in my head which I don't hear, and I certainly don't go around acting like I'm some fictional character. I don't WANT people to know I can see through the veil between worlds.

See, I don't actually break the fourth wall.. That would imply that I realize I'm inside a work of fiction, when the reality is far more grande: We all are. Every Universe (Or Dimension, Plane, whatever you wannna call it) exists somewhere else as a work of fiction that people think they made up. But we're all real. Some of us have the ability to see or communicate across the dimensional barriers, to experience other parts of the multiverse. I developed this ability early on, but instead of going crazy or accepting that my world wasn't the real one, I spent my life searching for the truth. And I found it when I discovered the Quantum Force, the primal energy and will of the Multiverse itself. The essence of creation, a force of will with it's own machinations. Some call it God, Destiny, Karma.. I call it 'boss'.

The QForce sends us where we're needed. By 'us', I of course mean the Inter-Dimensional Intelligence Coalition - IDIC.. Though you may be familiar with a different version of the acronym ;). We travel between the realms, going where we are needed for as long as we're needed, because we're needed. The QForce empowers us each with abilities far exceeding the norm for our race.. in some cases giving us more or less, depending on what is needed in the realm we're going to, but we all have specialites. My specialty, for example, is movement.. I can open rifts in space time. I'm great at moving people and objects from one place to another, and occasionally through time.

So, what does all of this mean for you? Well, my good man, it means that the QForce thinks I'm needed in your.. 'game', and wants to send me to your world.
So, are you gonna say no to the Will of the Multiverse and possibly doom your entire world, or you gonna let me in?

Complications:
Motivation: Doing Good: My primary drive is to help, it's why I'm here. Now that doesn't mean I can't ENJOY myself in the meantime, and I do a damn good job of that, but I Always try to do the right thing.
QForce Guidance: The QForce guides my actions, channeling it's will through the defacto 'powers that be' of whatever dimension I'm in. For the purposes of this game, that means you can pretty much tell me at any point to do something, give me an HP, and I'll do it b/c you speak for the QForce.
Arachnaphobia: *Shudder* Just thinking about the little buggers is making me crawl. Keep'em away form me, ok? If you send spiders at me, I'll probably freak out so bad you'll owe me TWO hero points! No? OK, fine, just one, but I'll probably use it to KILL THEM WITH FIRE.
Secret: Like I said, I don't want people knowing about my
Doesn't Like Guns: I just don't.
Power Loss: Luck/Luck Control: My extradimensional knowledge and senses allow me to see openings and opportunities that others might miss, and my connection to the QForce allows me to alter minor things, but it still has to be explainable/plausible.
Power Loss: Bombardment: The rifts don't reposition, so If the target moves far enough away form the source of the initial bombardment, they can avoid the secondary effect.
False Identity: Though I have set up a 'legal identity'(Benefit: Alt Identity), It's not real and may not stand up to rigorous scrutiny

Design Notes:

Niche Protection: Luck & Luck 7 :
Normally Luck is 1/2 PL, so I figured the Niche Protection would work on it, allowing 7 ranks. The reason I took so many is to showcase my dimensional awareness and the guidance of the Qforce. Edit Scene, Inspiration, Rerolls...

Flash:
Yes, it's a free-action Teleport. Obviously it can only be used once per turn, it's supposed to represent a quick rift opening to transport him somewhere nearby - an easy, quick 'bamf'

Protective Rifts:
Personal: I'm very good at reactively opening rifts to deflect all manner of attacks.
Active: If I'm actually TRYING, I'm even better, and can even cause attacks against me to affect someone else instead!
Extended: I can also extend my protective rifts to protect others, though at the cost of leaving myself open to melee strikes.

Personal Rift: The earth's diameter is ~8000 miles, so my extended rank 13 teleport can jump straight through the earth to any other spot. (Though since it's extended only, the minimum range is 2 miles: Since it's not full power I could use a single rank of it: Teleport 1 +8 extended = 9 = 2 miles.)

Portal:
I made the Portal Rank 9, which segues perfectly with Personal Rift: Anything 2 miles or under, he can use the portal, 2miles + he uses the Personal Rift(above).
I added a variant on "increased mass', since Portal doesn't seem to have a mass limit, it's just 'anything that moves through the 5X5 portal', so I took 'increased volume' so he can make the portal bigger to move bigger objects with it, if that's OK?
I also took a 'see through' feature, I'm thinking the portal he opens allows you to look through it - it's an actual Rift between the two places, so can be seen through. Is that OK as a 1p feature, or would you prefer me to either not do that, or build it with remote sensing or something?

Sudden Strike:
This represents me pulling a sort of weapon out of the air and attacking with it - a sword, chain, whatever, it just does the same damage effect for simplicity.

Thematically, I disappear, reappear with the weapon attacking, then either stay where I attacked from or reappear somewhere else, though rules wise it's just Attack>Teleport or Teleport>Attack, with Indirect to account for the attack being able to come from anywhere.
I'm using ranged attack to represent that I can either attack then teleport, or teleport then attack, and don't have to end up either beside them or back where I started, though I threw on Turnabout so I can (B/c the Teleport is linked, I HAVE to teleport when I attack, so Turnabout allows me to teleport, attack, and return to where I was)
I also specifically left Accurate off this ability, so I have to be able to see where I'm teleporting - no 'Attack, teleport inside random building'

Transport Objects/People:
Yes, I can use these to deal damage in various ways, With change velocity/direction, I could effectively 'throw' people into walls, or drop objects on people, etc. though it will be fairly lackluster compared to my other attacks, so it's not exactly OP.
As Perception Range Powers, these will auto hit, and then it's just a standard Rank Resistance check. *Note if i use the Transport People, that they get a will save to not be teleported, and only have to worry about damage if they fail that).
Also, as with Sudden Strike, these attacks are Accurate, so I have to be able to see the destination.. No teleporting people so far out of the combat that they effectively can't return. (The rank of the teleport is for Save DC)

Bombardment:
This is my "you're going down" attack. I open dozens of rifts surrounding my target and start bombarding him with fast moving objects from every direction. The target is struck several times (Multi-attack & Iterative Attack), and the rifts last for several seconds, continuously bombarding him or her without any further direction from me (Secondary Effect). The objects are travelling so fast that they can penetrate even the toughest armour.

Black Hole:
Arguably my 'ultimate attack', I can create a Rift to a powerful gravitational force, which begins pulling everything nearby into the singularity. In addition to pulling everything towards it, the gravity is so great it can injure people and destroy things (Damaging), though maintaining the rift requires great Concentration. I also have to be very careful with this, because the effect is non-descriminating. (Not Selective).
I don't actually want to kill people, so I make sure the rift is too small to actually allow anybody to get pulled through, it only allows the effects of the gravity through.
*I also added the Environment to show that even those who escape the move object's Grab are slowed in their efforts to leave the area.

@ecar: I noticed something you haven't addressed:
In 3e invention-type advantages only require one skill for both design and creation. But in 2e two of the feat require both a Knowledge and a Craft.
Which method do you want us to use?

Appearance: He's a 15' tall giant of a man, sporting a black body costume with a stylized yellow "T" on the chest, the lower part of the T resembling a lightning bolt.

Public Identity: When you're 15' tall, it is hard to maintain a secret identity. "Hey I wonder if that 15' tall janitor could really be Titan in disguise?"

"Bull in a China Shop": Titan still hasn't fully come to grips with his increased size and so may cause collateral damage accidentally.

Motivation: To protect the smaller, weaker members of the human race.

Character Description and Background
Terry "The Titan" Thompson, heavily recruited out of high school because of his three sport ability (basketball, football, and wrestling) and his freakish combination of size and speed (6' 10", 270#, 4.56 40 yard dash), finally chose the University of Southern California for his college career. He competed and excelled at all three sports his freshman year. He also worked hard at his studies and, though not nearly as gifted intellectually as he was physically, pulled a 3.35 GPA his first year as a double major in physics and chemistry. During summer workouts, in between his freshman and sophomore years, Terry became aware that some of his teammates were getting their physical prowess from a needle. He was even approached by some of them to "juice up" to increase his natural abilities. Had he simply refused and walked away, this is where the story might end. But Terry threatened to go to the coaching staff and the school administration about what he knew. Enraged, his teammates pummeled him into unconsciousness. One of them remembered that Terry was a chemistry major and so they took him to a chemistry lab to make it look like he slipped and fell on some spilled chemicals. They also injected him with some of the HGH that they had been taking so that he wouldn't be able to tell on them without losing his own scholarship. Then they turned on one of the gas jets to further make it look accidental. Unfortunately, there was a freak thunderstorm that day and a lightning bolt struck the chemistry building causing a power surge. A spark in the lab set off the gas in the lab into a fireball and Terry was bathed in a chemical soup. When he awoke amidst the burnt remnants of the lab, firefighters were already there and looking at him in amazement. At first he didn't know why. He didn't feel like he was hurt and, in fact, he felt better than he had ever felt before. Then, as he got to his feet, the realization dawned on him. He was naked AND he was 15' tall without a scratch on him, even though there were shards of glass and debris all around him. The firefighters gave him several blankets to cover himself and the paramedics gave him a once over to see if there was any damage. Since then, he has dropped out of school and become a full-time hero. He obviously attracts a lot of attention when he is out and about. Most of it is positive, but there are some who find his "clumsiness" a liability. He has met some other superheroes in his short-lived career and they have discussed forming a "Justice League" together.

He is currently at 162 pp. I left one point unspent for those things that I invariably miss and need to shave points to fit in. Comments and criticisms welcomed. Edited Thunderclap to be able to move AND damage simultaneously.

Does this mean that Titan's Thunderclap needs to be changed? He has a damaging Move Object power which I now realize also needs to be made Instant since he doesn't really sustain it. He just claps his hands together and things go flying. Am I to understand that I can either send things flying or damage them but not both?

Edited build to be able to both damage and move objects at the same time.

Since we're using 2e skills, we'll go with the 2e version of Inventing too, two skills required.

Yeah if you want both at the same time you'd have to buy move object w/o damaging and link a damage effect (with same range/area).

Yup thanks Jemal! I already made the change. Any suggestions for the extra point I have to spend on Titan?

Well I notice you have toughness 18 impervious 19. Wouldn't you have to up your toughness to 19 before you can do that?
So I'd suggest 1 rank protection

Actually, he cannot exceed 18 toughness. And normally he couldn't have Impervious 19, which would make all 18 ranks of his Toughness impervious. That's why I used my Niche Protection for it.
