[2e] Wild Cards Agents of FBI [OOC]

Postby mrdent12 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 9:44 pm

The game is set in the Wild Card setting 2004 after the election of John F. Kennedy Jr. as president with the PC's being Aces, Deuces, or Jokers(with mild to moderate deformities) working for the FBI who handle cases normal agents can't as well as helping other agencies if needed as part of a FBI power play against SCARE. The PC's can be from any background ranging from reformed criminal to die hard FBI lifers.

Background

As a background, the Wild Card virus came to earth and caused a minority of the population to be changed. 90% of people infected die of the virus, 9% survive but suffer physical deformities ranging from mild to monstrous sometimes with powers(jokers), and the lucky 1% get a power of some kind, from the minor (deuces) to the useful (aces). Those infected could pass the virus on to their children. The FBI realized that normal agents don't always cut it and having a team of Wild Cards would make the agency look more prestigious and get more funding. In addition, it would help the FBI gain ground in their rivalry with SCARE. SCARE started as a committee similar to the communist witch hunts, but has now become an agency that investigates paranormal occurrences. It still has the stigma of the witch hunts and is generally disliked.

PCs
Hosea "Ace" Skaggs: Highly train non wild card agent
Gina Marie Vantas: Big, tough, and means well Joker brought in for diversity
Jessica Dale(Moodring): Forensic scientist and emotion detector
Robert "Splater" Samuels: Anatomical separation liquefied agent
Devalin Brown: Computer specialist Joker with an AI companion.

Reserve PCs
James "Jammer" Callahan: Techie who can control radio emissions

Characters

As agents of the FBI, you will get a light pistol, stun gun, bullet proof vest(+2 protection), hand cuffs, and earbuds as needed. You also have the government agent benefit for free.

The PC's are PL8 120pp Aces, Deuces, or at most moderately transformed Jokers. Jokers / Aces or Deuces are also fine. While any background is accepted, the PCs will have first been put through a battery of tests by the FBI to ensure they will make good agents. So the PC could have started as a gangster, but is sufficiently reformed.

In regards to powers, not too complicated or over powered in preferred. I am fine with arrays that don't have a lot of AP's. If you want the ability to have fringe powers that are used sparingly, I would suggest taking the luck feat a couple times. I am not going to list over powered powers, but if it seems too powerful it probably is. An example of a broken power is Gravity control due to it not having a save.

As to what I am liable to cast, PCs that are team players with interesting backgrounds and concepts are most likely to get accepted. I am not looking for a long bio, but one that gets across how the PC came to be where they are (as FBI agents) and things that influenced their development would be helpful when crafting plots.

Have not played in a Wild Cards game before. I'll try out for it. I'll think of a character.

It is a quasi paragon concept except the virus has been around since 1946 in some form or another. So world events happened almost as they did, but the Wild Card virus with the aces, deuces, and jokers it created were also around to tweak things.

At what point during the WildCards history is this? Is this contemporary, so The Committee for Extraordinary Intervention exists to come into conflict with should it be an issue where the UN could be involved? Are the characters full FBI agents or are they on loan from SCARE? Not that it makes a huge difference one way or another.

Is it earlier in the WC timeline? Would it be focused around the most famous WC outbreak zone in New York (Jokertown)? Even the FBI uses regional offices based on population density. I love the WC setting, but with so much history in the WC universe, there's alot of options for a game.

It would be set after the election of John F. Kennedy Jr. as president in 2004 with SCARE still around, but the FBI is trying to take over paranormal investigations subtly. PC's would be full FBI agents based out of the NYC office and recruited for their gifts and probably having the government agent benefit for free. Initially, the team would work out of New York, but would also be on loan to other agencies as part of the FBI's power play.

So...between the Cards Sharks Trilogy and the Committee Triad. Not a bad place in the timeline for a campaign. Not much is detailed in the novels of this time period, leaving potential storylines pretty wide open.

Yeah, I tried to choose a time period that would be easily accessible as I am just starting to get into the Wild Cards World. I bought a pdf of it when I was just getting into MnM, so I am going off that mostly for now.

Okay, off the top of my head, I was thinking of something along the lines of a "Shark Totem". Basically, they would be mutated into a humanoid shark due to the disease, so they would have the main features of a shark, but none of the super strength and well known powers (for example, they have the sharp teeth of a shark, but not as much power behind the bite). Do you understand this, and would this be acceptable?

Well so far only one possibly two have expressed interest, so I want to hold off character ideas until at least 5 show interest.

I am certainly interested in such a game. The Wildcards setting is great and should be a wonderful place to play in.

I'm interested. I love the Wild Cards universe. I'll have to think over what type of character I'd like to play. Based off my 2e character in your just ended game I think I need to stick to something simple until I'm fully comfortable with the 2e rules again.

I do have some questions about the characters though.

1.) Are you going to allow Joker/Aces like Troll or Dr. Finn?
2.) Will there be a PL/PP difference between the Aces and Deuces?
3.) Do you mind if we play a copy of a canon character?

And some references for those unfamiliar with the Wild Cards universe:

I am thinking of limiting it to Aces and Deuces, but if the demand is their Jokers can work as well. PL wise, everyone will have the same PL and PP. As for copying characters, I am going to insist on original characters. That doesn't rule out being the child of a canon character.

I've always liked the idea of joker/aces, and the thought of someone like Troll (though not him, since cannon are out) in the classic black suit and sunglasses of the FBI does have a certain appeal. 8)
That said, I haven't really given a character concept too much thought yet, and so don't know that I need such an option.

Jokers, as long as they aren't too deformed, should be fine. I can see the FBI showing off how much more tolerant they are than SCARE. Once I get one more to express interest I will open the game for recruitment with recruitment details.

I will express interest. I've been in two Wild Cards games in the past, one in 2E and one in 3E.
