Re: Fantasy Mecha (2e, Interest)

Postby metool2 » Wed Jan 01, 2014 8:31 am

Nine interested parties here, and a few more in atleast two other gaming forums he also posted this interest thread in. Though personally I hope he does run the game here ^_^.

If I knew the points I was working with, I could already try to build a Mech, to get an idea of what im working with. It's my first time really building one, so I dunno what i'll be capable of doing.

Conceptwise, ignoring power points, what I want to build is a Gargantuan or colossal mech that can shift between three forms. A primal beastial shape, a humanoid fighter shape, and a land ship with weapons. Ideally also working in drills for burrowing abilities.

The background i'v been working on in my head is playing a member of the ruling family of a united Beastmen kingdom, likely a lion man. The mech would be one of the ancient mechs from the past that was unearthed in an old earthquake, and was used to drive the human clans out of their territory and unite the different beast men under one banner.

The Mecha would be known as, The Champion Within Earth, The Roaring Landship, The Exalted Beast -- Behemoth.

Kinda a set I had been working on, trying to consider massive and ancient mechas for Behemoth, Leviathan, and Ziz. But I decided to focus on Behemoth as a strong landship, as a counter point to a possible Airship. Besides, seems suitably FANTASY esque. :3

I thought posted this here but the initial type of mecha are Craft, gargantuan in size much like other well know mecha.

Starting PL is going to be 6 for those who wanted be less experienced or 8 for the more experienced. Still working on the standard mecha used by the Aesila Alliance, the ruling monarchy of Aesila. That be the beginning continent. The world is several times larger then Earth and mostly unexplored due to what lies beyond the Dead Zone, an area of desert were Isei is seemingly drained from anything in it.

I have an idea for an airship captain (as previously mentioned), and would like some feedback on this set up for this airship:

>Colossal Size
>STR 50
>TOUGH 13 (+2 Armor)
>DEF 2

POWERS
(Armor)
Protection 2

(Cannons)
Blast 5
+Penetrating

(Engines)
Flight 5
>200 MPH MAXIMUM

FEATURES
>Hidden Compartments 3
>Smokescreen

Would this suit this setting? And what equipment point total do all of these make?

>Nat 10: Taking a Natural 10 on a specific Skill

when you say Craft, I start picturing things like ships, tanks, etc; not classical mecha most people would picture, like gundam/transformers/etc..

Would Battlemechs be a good association??

Yes it would. It's the size of Galley, a pretty typical size. A fast as a standard helicopter. Light fire power. Also, a Colossal vehicle already has a base toughness +15. I calculate it at 35 EP.

No, I was going by the terminology used in Mecha & Manga. Gundams and the like are consider Craft types, but to more specific giant robots if that helps.

My first thought was at Pl 8 who needs a mecha? I'll just take a great sword and plate armour

To quote the entry:

MeMa pg. 59 wrote:A craft mecha has as much value as a vehicle as it has as a humanoid machine. Hovering around the size of similar vehicles like jet fighters, space frigates, and tanks, craft mecha have advanced modes of travel as well as weaponry that takes advantage of their long range and versatility. Many craft mecha can transform or adopt different modes to optimize each of their various functions and purposes.

The crew of craft mecha consists of a single pilot and perhaps a copilot. Very few models exceed this number before becoming either special vehicles or other types of mecha.

The arsenal of craft mecha is very diverse, combining mounted options like shoulder missile launchers with weapons wielded with one or both of the mecha’s hands. The melee weapons wielded by craft mecha can slice vehicles in half, although given their mobility, most of these equip ranged attack options if their base technology allows it.
Example: The mobile suits of the Gundam saga.

Alright, I have a PL 6 hero ready. Would it be alright if I posted him for review on if he fits in the game?

Cool. How does this work:

Image
Captain A. Gideon Redstart
(Closest known "picture" of him to date; taken the previous year.)

BIO:

Alistair Gideon Redstart was the son of the well-know air ship admiral of the Aesila Alliance Air Force (AAAF), Admiral Samson Redstart. Alistair was unable to get to know his father, but from what his mother said, Admiral Redstart was a cunning and tactical man, seeing over one-hundred steps ahead of his opponent. This made Alistair want to become an Admiral just like his father. When Alistair came of age, he joined the AAAF and quickly passed through the ranks and became a Captain within 5 years of joining.

It when Admiral Redstart ordered Alistair to retrieve a recently discovered mecha that had unearthed itself during an earthquake the previous night. Without hesitation, Alistair and what crew he was given set off for the Mecha. It took a few days to arrive at the location of the mecha, but Alistair finally arrived; however, it was an ambush, and Alistair and his crew were attacked by Admiral Redstart's flagship, "The Sleipnir". Alistair's assigned ship was destroyed, but Alistair, being the only survivor of the attack, took the ship by surprise after "Sleipnir" had been massively damaged in the preceding battle. After an exhausting battle, the "Sleipnir" became Alistair's own ship.

After exploration of the ship, Alistair discovered a letter to Sleipnir's previous captain from Admiral Redstart saying that his son is to be killed due to suspicions of assassinating the Admiral himself. Shocked at the claim, Alistair had no choice but to escape the area with the Sleipnir and become a pirate, abandoning the AAAF.

That was over ten years ago, and A. Gideon Redstart and "Sleipnir" became infamous to the AAAF in terms of plundering their ships for supplies and weaponry for Alistair and his crew. Soon, the AAAF had sent a letter to Alistair stating that they would pardon all crimes committed by Alistair and his crew if he would assist the AAAF in a task. Out of curiosity, Alistair set off to see what they needed.

COMPLICATIONS:

1) EX-CAPTAIN OF AESILA ALLIANCE'S AIR FORCE

2) REPUTATION: Air Ship Pirate

3) Code of Honor

Totally interested in playing an alchemist-pirate/swashbuckler character.

I'll work on a build right away. Are mechs considered Devices or Equipment?

EDIT: Whoops, it seems sky-pirate has already been taken. I'll think of something else.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But the half-wit remains a half-wit and the emperor remains an emperor.

Okay, my own unfamiliarity with the mecha genre makes me a little confused here: Are we making walkers? Airships? Tanks? All of the above?
