HP: 1 Cnd: Fine

When the actual mission briefing finally started, Carol turned to face the screens, although she still stuck close to the Marian. She seemed to listen intently, although she did whisper a "Could get into a lot of trouble in half an hour..." to the aquatic Legionnaire.

She considered the big guy, the one called Leviathan after the mild outburst. He was obviously hurting, the only question was whether it was before or after the grafting-process. She just hoped he could keep it together during the mission. At least he was all business after the Major spoke so maybe he could be counted on.

After Leviathan spoke Carol straightened up, the change in her composure compared to before like someone drawing a cold steel sword out of a beatifully hand-crafted scabbard. "I'm curious about that things as well, actually. As for your question Major. I won't presume to speak for everyone here but we've all gone through the grafting process that made us Legionnaires. I think we've passed the point of no-return a while ago. I'd be more suspicious of you if you said you had a perfect plan for us. We're at war and we should be willing to do what it takes kick these §#!&% off our planet."

HP: 1 Condition: Crazy Train

These Legionnaires are very open. Especially the Rachni splice. Such information is very useful in creating profiles for termina...

"Shut Up." Willy whispered aloud.

Willy's eyes widened at the sight of Major Greenbaum. He hadn't thought the Major was that high up the chain of command. Weird. The man seemed like quite the hardtack, and was one of the few who was present at his psych evaluations. He wouldn't have thought someone high up in the military would stoop to be present at a psych test. Or was Willy just a 'special case'.

Quietly listening to the briefing, Willy blanched at the sound of the horrors. Khaji Da was cold and analytical instead. Various analysis of the Major's words began to be splayed across Willy's field of vision, showing medical files of various sorts taken from the police files the Scarab had hacked, trying to create composite images of what the scenes might be. Willy felt like throwing up in his suit. Analyzing... Processing for cross-checking versus Scarab database. Files partially corrupted. Retrieval and analysis translated for Interlac... There were times when Willy had no idea what in the world Khaji Da was talking about.

OOC wrote:So, what would Khaji Da know about our mysterious visitors? His Infiltrator versatility gives Willy a +10 bonus on Expertise:Aliens coupled with Wiily's 2 Intellect. Should I roll, or is there stuff Khaji Da would just know?

Dr. Greene

The response from Levi surprised her. She dimly recalled the man from his phase 1 processing - jock type, not a great or strategic thinker. She had no reason to think the graft would greatly enhance his intellect, not like the Khundian-splice anyway. She'd have to remember to order some tests. In the meantime, she was glad he was not the thuggish type she had suspected.

"Getting their files for SFE would be good also in the event they are mind controlled or otherwise corrupted, and sent against us." She discussed the possibility dispassionately, almost coldly irregardless of their team member standing right in front of them. She was never one for tact.

Cold-hearted b!&§%. Carol doubted Granny remembered her, she was probably just another volunteer for the scientist. But an attitude like hers was something that tended to stick in Carol's mind and not in a good way. Regardless of the fact that she was probably right.

GM Post

The screens light up again, displaying information. Hawkwind's entry takes up the bottom half of a screen.

Hawkwind: Thanagarian Gene-Splice.
Operative demonstrates remarkable recuperative powers, regenerating tissue and injury at a tremendous rate. Top observed speed is 1000 miles/ hour for brief spurts. Sustainable speed appears to be in the 250 mph range
Operative demonstrates remarkable strength, beyond that of the Phase 1 process with an observed ability to move close to 6 tonnes. Restrictions of flight harness reduce carrying capacity considerably.
Hawkwind is an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant.
Attempts to replicate regenerative powers have met with less success.

The next screen has two entries, Pscyhe occupies the top portion and Jotun the lower portion.

Pscyhe: Ethereal Gene-Splice.
Operative possesses telepathic abilities. Demonstrated abilities include long distance communication, almost precognitive reaction to threat and danger, mind control and mental paralysis. Physical ability is on par with standard Phase One Conditioning.

Jotun: Khundian Gene-Splice
Operative is a walking tank. Capable of barrelling through all but the toughest materials given time. Casual throw can send a large sedan close to 30 miles. Estimated strength ability without strain would enable operative to lift a 747 jet. Strength can be channelled into an ability to not be moved.

The third screen contains an entry for Shadow and Snapdragon.

Shadow: Tesslan Gene-Splice
Operative abilities are an anamoly. Gene splicing should have produced telepathy but instead induced the ability to become invisible to all senses except those that are psionic in nature. Also possesses an ability to flatten to an almost two dimensional form that has no seeming bearing on gene splice origins.
Operative is a superb swordsman, possessing formidable stealth skills without his powers and is an accomplished pilot.

Snapdragon: Tamaranean Gene Splice
Role of hose DNA in Alliance politics is still being researched.
Operative's DNA was spliced with the hopes of generating the Tamaranean ability to fly. Further research demonstrated that this ability was not only genetic but dependant on Solar Energy. Operative was exposed to large quantities of UV light and resulted not in flight but in control of the EM spectrum. This ability included energy control, energy bursts and abilities pertaining to shifting her visual senses up and down the spectrum. Operative can melt a cube of steel nearly a foot thick in mere moments and is precise enough in her control to push a finger through steel without damaging beyond that width.
Subject abilities have not been replicated as of yet.

Hawkwind

Hawkwind picks up the rod in response to the question and twists it. She's careful to have no one to either side as it extends and snaps into a particularly nasty spear, sharp on both ends.

"I pulled this out of the body of one of our troops. It was halfway through his body and clear through the tree he was pinned to. It had gone through his skull.

"I have no idea what threw it. My helmet recorder got only one decent image.

This alien does not represent anything in the databases. A DC 35 check is required to be able to get anything useful from relevant skills..

The Marian

HP:1
CND: Normal

The was a lot of information being presented all at once. The Marian's eyes glanced around and saw that many of his strikeforce comrades were deep in thought analyzing various pieces of the overall plan. In his own mind, Roberto's earlier question had not been adequately answered. Roberto had always taken a keen interest in geography and there was one piece of the plan that had not been adequately addressed.

"So, where exactly in the Amazon are we going? You mentioned that Rift would not be able to extract us. How will we get out? I'm particularly concerned about how we'll get out should the situation become quickly untenable. It seems like we should know precisely where we are going in order to devise exit strategies."

Blue Beetle

Willy glanced over the files displayed. He noted the Scarab AI analyzing every word, noting down every single detail given, approximating the comparisons and creating mental simulations of the people. Willy sometimes wondered why Khaji Da spent so much time doing that. The AI was incredibly intelligent, and if it was focused, it could likely come up with a solution to world hunger, an ever growing problem especially after the aliens had invaded. But the AI instead spent it's time doing stuff like: Analyzing profiles. Assessing. Projections and Simulations Generated. Attack Strategy plotted. Stored.

When showed the photo taken from the helmet camera, Willy glanced to the side, wondering if the Scarab recognized the foe. If it did, the Scarab wasn't telling. He wasn't sure why, but for some reason, the Scarab seemed to be keeping it's mouth shut for now.

Tinker
HP: 1->0 / LP: 5

"Foliage monster!" Tinker's exclamation was accompanied by bursting out of his chair in rapt fascination. "No... wait. Just glowing eyes layering." Without really asking, he took the double-headed spear out of Hawkwind's hands and twirled it around, though somehow Tinker seemed to be casually keeping it away from harming himself or anyone else.

"Well, buddy. Sounds like you got a lotta muscle power. Oooh, and an invisibility suit... or powers. Kinda funny though - if it is tech, why are you chucking spears at soldiers? And how are you hiding from us? Light bending? Blacking out your personal EM spectrum?" Tinker peered at his current possession a bit. "I bet Mr. Pokey has more to him than just the bronze age look."

Okay, setting Intuitive Understanding to.....
Technology +2 (Total +21)
Expertise: Science +6 (Total +21)
Expertise: Alien Alliance +20 (Total +20)
Ultimate Effort (Technology)

So spending HP to get a total of 41 on the Technology check.
Expertise: Science: 1d20+21 39
Expertise: Alien Alliance: 1d20+20 29

Apart from now being able to dismantle, reassemble and probably replicate the spear, what does Tinker hope to gain with the roll?

Ah.

GM Post

The weapon is indeed a Telescoping Spear and based on resiliency might also serve as a Combat-Staff. It is an exceedingly sharp and resilient weapon.

It's telescopic (As Tinker already discovered). It is made of incredibly light, sharp, thin but strong material. It would make an effective hand-to-hand weapon and is balanced to be thrown like a spear. A cursory jab to the table will leave a significant mark. (The table is metal.)

The material composing the spear is like nothing you've ever seen. It feels like tin but is as hard as steel.

Beetle, Green and Tinker would also note that there the markings on the part available when not extended seem to be runes or glyphs. (None of you have the means to translate or otherwise decipher it.) It does seem, however, to denote rank or accomplishment.

Greene - the weapon denotes primitive fighting styles, it's composition suggests a far more advanced culture.

Dr. Greene

"The dichomy of technology and savagery indicate a species with traditional warlike attitudes yet advanced enough to uncover technologies such as this. Assuming their culture is not one of barbarism - else they would not have made such advances in technology, they likely have an 'honorable warrior' mindset*. Remarkable training and discipline. We don't have enough to know whether it is being controlled or coerced, or whether it hunts for the challenge of it, and frankly, it doesn't matter. It's likely very skilled and will be hunting us."

*this is all conjecture and a little bit of educated BS on her part to try to sound smart.

"In any event, we should start to get ready to leave."

Vecta

Remaining quiet, Camila kept to herself throughout the briefing as she pondered the arrival of these new, stealth-based aliens. Naturally, she had never heard of them before...nor had earth's defense force encountered them on the field. Yet instead of being used by the aliens to assassinate and sabotage important human resources and personnel, they were playing cat-and-mouse in the jungle with a bunch of grunts and a Legion group. That struck her as a very curious use of expertise such as this.

It only further puzzled Camila when she wondered to herself what these aliens wanted. They clearly had the technology to wipe humanity off of the planet...but yet they didn't...here again they had a weapon that could've been deployed in so many more effective and practical operations yet it was utilised to hunt down some grunts and a small squad...what was their game?

As soon as the science-y types started talking, Carol's eyes glazed over. Sure, her brain filed away for future use the points they were making about the enemy but she was getting bored here. As a result, she turned her attention back to the Marian.

"My suggestion about exit strategy? We steal their ride." She spoke loud enough to be heard by the rest, although she was still clearly speaking to the Marian. "We've got two geniuses on the team and one of us is grafted to think like their ships, however that works. Of course that might not work but since we won't know until we try, there's not much point in worrying about it." She hated inflating Granny's ego any bigger than it already was but there was no use in trying to deny the truth.

Carol leaned in closer, lowering her voice to a whisper. "Honestly, I think our time could be spent better than talking with the eggheads here."

Character Sheet

"We've got two geniuses on the team and one of us is grafted to think like their ships, however that works. Of course that might not work but since we won't know until we try, there's not much point in worrying about it."

"Your right." he said with an outward smile. Inside he couldn't help but be anxious. From his limited dealings with aliens, they were *always* a step ahead of humanity. And even though the invaders lost a battle here and there, they never lost a war. The potential to be identified and overwhelmed by enemy forces seemed high...especially if this were an object that the aliens *really* wanted.

"Say, care to have a drink before we go? Martinis are hard to come by in the Amazon." Roberto turns his head to the screen with Major Greenbaum. "Major, do guys have any grog on board this ship? I know there's been regulations against it in the past, but I'm willing to bet someone has a few bottles stored. Given the danger-level of this assignment, it wouldn't be too much to ask would it?"
