Hey, have you read the Worlds of Freedom sourcebook? It has a setting that I'm pretty sure is heavily inspired by Marvel 2099 and Batman Beyond. That could be a good place to look if you need any inspiration. :)

Or maybe you have your whole setting down in your head already, in which case I'm looking forward to read more about it. :D

I should have a build and background put together in the next day or two. The build is nearly done, just needs a little tweaking. The background is pretty basic right now but I have a few ideas on expanding it.

Sounds good. I will hopefully have a chance to go over everyone's builds and finish getting the initial setting details up this weekend.

Anyone else who has not yet posted a character but already expressed interest still planning on participating?

Background:

Sandrine was born and raised in France. As a teenager, she was discovered by a modeling agency talent scout. Within just a few years, Sandrine was appearing in dozens of ads all around the planet and on magazine covers everywhere. Her popularity was enormous. The tabloids and visual media constantly reported whom she was actually dating, rumored to be dating, and what the status of the relationship was. To her credit, Sandrine ignored the tabloids and just let her life the way she pleased. Her most recent relationship was with a young executive at an American corporation called the Grant Conglomerate, located in New Freedom City. She met Adam Carmichael at a party thrown by her agency to celebrate a new account they had just acquired. He was handsome and charming and the two of them hit it off. Before the night was over, their images were being shown on nearly every broadcast media station in almost every civilized country on the planet.

They had a whirlwind romance. Everything was going great and Sandrine was very happy. In her heart, she knew that Adam was the one for her. Alas, it was not to be. At a party she was attending, someone drugged her drink. A strange woman helped her to another room so she could lie down. Once out of sight of the others, the strange woman let several masked men in. They quietly kidnapped Sandrine and left a ransom message.

Sandrine was kept barely conscious during her captivity. She lost track of time. In the outside world, Adam made frequent pleas to the kidnappers on every media outlet to let Sandrine go free. The world watched and waited. Days, then weeks went by without any new information. Weeks turned into months. The public began to lose interest. Then one day, Adam went on the air to announce with great sorrow that Sandrine was found dead. He vowed to find those responsible and make sure they get the justice they deserve for their vile deeds.

The truth was that Sandrine was not dead. During her captivity, her kidnappers were not waiting for the ransom money. They used Sandrine as a test subject for genetic modification. Over the course of the months she was being held, Sandrine’s genetic code was rewritten. When everything was completed, she was no longer entirely human. She was now part human and part bird. She had wings, a light covering of feathers on her back, upper arms, and thighs. She was stronger, had retractable talons on her fingers, enhanced senses, greater agility, and more.

As soon as she was released from captivity, she went to see Adam. His reaction to her new appearance was not what she was expecting or hoped for. He called her a freak and said he never wanted to see her again. Devastated, Sandrine leaped out the window in an attempt to end her life. Her suicide attempt failed as her wings unfolded as she was falling, swooping her up towards the sky. Sandrine flew as far away from the city as she could and finally found a secluded spot. She sat there for hours crying and trying to figure out what had happened to her and why. More importantly, what was she going to do with her life now? Eventually she went back to the city disguised in a long coat she ‘borrowed’. That’s when she found out she had been declared dead by Adam. She quickly left the city again and went as far into the country as possible. It was out in the middle of nowhere she met people that were not frightened of her appearance. They didn’t view her as a freak at all. They treated her as one of their own, feeding her and giving her a place to stay.

Sandrine was content to live among these kind folk. In her past life, they would have been beneath her notice. Now, she was dependent on their kindness and compassion. One day, Sandrine was told to go hide, that someone was coming. She did as she was told and hid in the small church. She watched from her hiding place as some strange men showed up. They had a loud, heated argument with the village leaders. This lasted for several minutes until finally, one of them shot a villager before they all left in a hurry. As soon as they were gone, Sandrine ran over to the fallen villager. She was shocked to see it was Heather Monson, the village minister.

Sandrine questioned the others and learned the men were from the Grant Conglomerate. They offered to purchase all the land in the area for a paltry sum. When they were told it was not for sale, they became angry. They threatened to take the village by force if needed. Sandrine became very angry and took to the air. She scouted the area and soon found the vehicle the men were travelling in. She swooped down in front of it, causing it to veer out of control and crash. Sandrine forcibly pulled the men from the vehicle and slashed them open. She tossed them aside one by one. When she was finished, she flew back to the village.

The villagers were both afraid and happy at the news she delivered. They were happy that she had taken revenge against the men who killed a servant of god but afraid that the Conglomerate would only send more people with better weapons. Sandrine vowed to protect the people of the village but she knew that Adam would recognize her. She needed a disguise. After explaining her plan to the villagers, they helped her create an alternate identity, one that would serve as a symbol of hope to people everywhere.

Complications:
Secret Identity: Adam Carmichael knows who Kestrel really is. Whenever he wants to, he could use that against her to hurt to friends and family, who believe her to be dead.

Revenge: Sandrine has an insatiable desire for revenge on the Grant Conglomerate, Adam Carmichael, and the people who had kidnapped her and turned her into a freak.

Mystery: Sandrine has no idea who was responsible for her kidnapping and transformation. She has no idea that Adam is part of the conspiracy.

Not Quite Human: Sandrine is not entirely human anymore and needs to disguise herself to be able to blend in for short periods of time in civilization.

Hey, folks, sorry I've been so quiet. I've been crazy busy. Which I knew I was going to be, so I probably should have held off on starting this game until my schedule clears up next week.

I will go over everyone's posted characters as soon as I can, and try to get some more info up in the campaign setting thread, and then next week we can actually start the game.

Again, my apologies.

Hey, folks. I've been going over everyone's characters and so far so good. I'll have some comments later.

I also updated the setting thread with a bunch of information on technology in 2066.

Hey, I just got a PM from someone asking about this game and whether I still intend to run it, so I thought I should come here and apologize to everyone who was looking forward to playing.

Real life stuff which I'm not going to go into came up and demanded a lot of my time and attention, and when I had that sorted out, I assumed that everyone would have forgotten about this game.

It did make me think that I probably shouldn't commit myself to running a game here without being sure I have a more firm plan and the time to run it.

So, for anyone who was or is still excited about this concept, I am sorry, but I don't think I should be running a game right now.
