Freedom City 2066 (OOC)

Postby Kyle » Sun Oct 06, 2013 2:05 pm

Looking to gauge interest in a cyberpunk themed superhero game set in the not too distant future of the Freedom City Universe.

Drawing a lot of inspiration from Marvel's 2099 books and 'Shadowrun'. I don't have all the details worked out, but common cyberpunk tropes would apply: common cybernetic enhancements, unchecked corporate power, sprawling cities, augmented reality and cyberspace, rampant poverty, heroes on the edge of society, so on and so forth.

An event in the early 21st century referred to as the Blackout resulted in the disappearance of all Earth's superheroes and villains. Almost no solid information is available from the Blackout; all electronics were disabled for over a month, and all records are based on hearsay. Even the current date isn't completely agreed upon. Society has since bounced back but recovery had a cultural toll. Superheroes never returned, and are considered an artifact of history if they're considered at all.

Of course, history has a way of repeating itself.

Player's could create entirely new characters, or choose to revive the legacy of one of the established heroes with a cyberpunk twist.

We're doing a Marvel-based setting then?

No, Freedom City based setting drawing a heavy amount of inspiration from the Marvel 2099 series of titles that came out in the early '90s. So players, if the wanted to, could create the cyberpunk updated Lady Liberty or Foreshadow or whomever from the Freedom City Universe, or entirely new heroes that aren't legacy versions of established characters.

Also, elements of the modern Freedom City Universe will carry over with a cyberpunk revision. For example, MarsTech Industries from the Emerald City Knights campaign might end being a highly influential megacorporation in the year 2066.

Sorry if I was unclear.

Same here. I will keep an eye on this and see if I can set up a character. An idea I have is an ex-military soldier who is missing his right arm and having possession of a battlesuit designed like a humanoid horned owl (idea came to me last night).

I am very interested. I'll probably try for a legacy of some kind.

I'm also thinking of another Bowman, since the massive cities of the Cyberpunk genre are almost like their own ecosystem, sprawling concrete jungles spanning miles upon miles, sometimes both above and below ground. It seems like the perfect place for a wise-cracking sharpshooter with a quiver full of trick arrows to make his mark.

Scratch my last idea, for it is too much pp consuming. As for PL, I think it should be PL 10, your basic superhero game.

Glad to see there's some folks interested. I'll start to work out some general setting info.

I'm not decided on PL / PP yet. As theoretically the characters would be fairly novice, I was considering PL 8, but the setting implies more advanced technology which lends itself to a higher PL.

Maybe PL 10 with a less than standard number of power points? I'm open to suggestions on the subject.

Given that this a dystopian cyberpunk series, I'd say Power Level 9 might be the right balance in scale. That's not too much higher then a conventional Blaster Rifle in the core book, which is what soldiers, police officers, and criminals with access to high grade weapons will be packing.

My line of thought is currently leaning towards a kind of sort of Patriot legacy.

This idea sounds awesome let me see if I can come up with something.

EDIT:

Also how about pl 8 but with 150 pps?

This way we can buy some of these expensive skills and dont have to worry too much about huge powers. Unless it is really importnat to someone's character and they are willing to pay most of thier points for it.

How about PL8 150 points at least 20 pps in skills.

I'm interested. :D

I was thinking of making an escaped test subject from a large biotech megacorp which experimented with ancient Preserver technology.
