Re: The Quick and the Undead(Interest/Recruiting) 3E/PL8

Postby Atomickat » Fri Oct 18, 2013 4:38 pm

He isn't exactly a Beastman ranger, but is hopefully a solid concept. Meet Roland Thousand-Bullets:

Image

Roland Thousand-Bullets (PL 8, 120 PP)

Concept: Sheriff revenant; hunter of outlaws

"The honor of a sheriff is unbreakable, even by death itself." - Roland Thousand-Bullets

"It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!" - Butch Goldtooth, Monster of the Plains (deceased)

Complications:

Fame ("The Scourge of Rogues") - He is known across the West as an unstoppable bounty hunter.

Motivation: Justice - His whole life was a quest for justice in the wretched Wild West. Mere death doesn't stop him from doing what's right.

Prejudice - He's a walking sack of tissue and muscle animated by raw vengeance. Not great at parties.

Obsession: Kill outlaws - He has sworn vengeance upon the thugs who burned his town and left him for dead. Now that they are dead, he extends his hatred to all outlaws.

Reputation: He is known for feats of brutality that even the most terrible rogues wouldn't contemplate. Also, he's kinda dead.

Quirk: Tactless - He's been through Hell and back. He doesn't give a shit what others think of him and is all too happy to show it.

Weakness: He is vulnerable to pieces of his old home and grave. They are the one thing that can inspire fear in him.

Ulysses Labyrinth
>Minotaur Sheriff<

BIO:
Ulysses grew up under his father, the infamous Achilles Labyrinth, as
Ulysses's mother was killed by Achilles after child birth. As the years passed,
Achilles abused his son and made him commit crimes, molding him to
be the next Most Wanted criminal to take his line. Eventually, this
was enough and Ulysses fled from his father into the vast wastelands.

After many days of wandering, Ulysses, who was about the age of 12,
arrived in the small settlement of Dead Oak Gulch. After collapsing just
outside the town, Ulysses fell into an unconscious state. He awoke in the
local doctor's office, under the kindly care of Doctor Hector Drew, a Goblin
who had just become the local physician. Thanking him, Ulysses offered to
pay his debt in any way, but Dr. Drew declined and sent him off with a
bill of good health. After leaving the Dr. Drew's office, Ulysses quickly
encountered a local drunk trying to rape a woman. Stepping in quickly to
stop the man, the local sheriff intervened and arrested the drunk. Thanking
the young Minotaur for his actions, the sheriff offered the young Ulysses
a position as deputy sheriff. Gladly, Ulysses accepted.

That was over ten years ago, and that sheriff had passed of old age over
a year ago. Ulysses had been the new sheriff for over a year, and
Ulysses felt good about serving justice to those that deserve it. Now,
with recent talk of the Dead coming back to life, Ulysses is ready to
sacrifice his life for the sake of protecting Dead Oak Gulch.

COMPLICATIONS:

HATRED- Father: Ulysses's father, Achilles Labyrinth, is one of the
Most Wanted of the West. Ulysses despises his father's actions and
abuse upon him.

MOTIVATION- Justice: Ulysses's main goal is to bring justice
back to his hometown of Dead Oak Gulch.

RESPONSIBILITY- Sheriff: Many responsibilities come with being the
sheriff, such as dealing with local disputes, stopping bar fights, and
even capturing wanted criminals.

SECRET- Family Line: Ulysses's own family was once known as
one of the West's Most Wanted. Ulysses does not want ANYBODY
to find out, lest he be rejected and banished from his new home.

History:
Mogrog lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his gruff and grouchy father. He learned to ride and herd animals as well as shoot during his days as a “coworc” (?) Seeking to supplement his income as a rancher, Mogrog undertook several bounties and found he had a knack for it. He has a reputation as a natural gunfighter although he’s only engaged in two duels (neither of which resulted in an actual death).

Actually, I would be fine if you create a character who has "human form" "Hybrid form" and "full form"

That doesn't bother me, so long as you are clean and straightforward about it, which your builds usually are.

Considering your Dwarf's fortitude already makes Disease, Fatigue, and Poison effects half effect, buying these three things again seems redundent and a waste of points.

Vision is by default Accurate and Acute. Did you mean Anylitical or Extended maybe?

Also you have technology 9, but not expertise fire arms. So just so you are aware, you can build and repair firearms, but you're doing it on a purely mechanical level, you don't actually know Firearm brands, or companies. So if you picked up a random rifle, you would know if the balance was off, but you'd have no idea who built it. But if you had expertise fire arms, you might able to look at the unmarked weapon and realize that the way the wooden butt of the rifle was carved from a ____ tree using a ____ tool, and only one gunsmith around does that, so now you know who to go question.

Also note, having both technology and expertise fire arms, the skills would synergize, and the tech rolls regarding firearms would have a lower DC.

Ok, that makes sense. I meant to apply it to darkvision, in case it wasn't there already. If that's the case I'll apply extended to it.
My expertise should be in guns, I forgot to change it.

I've had several complaints and private messages people saying they would much rather a pure fantasy game.

So I am putting this up to a vote.

Options:

1. The Quick and the Undead

2. The New World:
A new mmo video game has just been released, you finish installing, finish character creation and click the "Enter world" icon. Your computer screen glows and suddenly you wake up in the game.

The game is based in a parallel world, a few years in the future. An Apocalypse has occurred, destroying almost all technology, cities have been overrun with wildlife, buildings are covered in moss, vines, and other plants. Mutated giant creatures and monsters have sprouted everywhere.

In this parallel world there are the same 10 species from the Quick and the dead.

You create your character based on typical Game classes and subclass.

The players will be old friends from a previous MMO, you had prearranged to use the same names from your old game so you can contact each other.

All players will have the following abilties.

Communication 4: limited to players you have first met Face to Face, both players must agree to be added to each others friends lists.

Recall: Teleport to the last city you visited, requires 1 minute to cast.

Basic Bag of Holding: A basic waste pouch that can hold up to 200 pounds of material, however only weights 5 pounds. Better bags can be found later in game.

When creating this character, no one should have any devices, only basic equipment, and be PL 6. your PL's will grow quickly through the game, and I will say "okay your basic sword is replaced with a magical fire sword." so you would get a free Device, Damage say... 4 with "Secondary effect" to represent it burning them.

This is just an example.

Druid
Guardian
Enchanter
Assassin
Bard
Monk
Priest
Etc....

Sub Classes(Are your Job class)
Black Smith
Inscription
Cook
Tracking and Trapping/Survivalist

Take one of each, feel free to think of a combo that synergizes each other

Honestly, I prefer "The New World"(The original idea I believe) over "The Quick and the Undead". Do not get me wrong, but I will play either game, but I prefer the second option better. Besides, I have always wanted to break the 4th wall (in a sense). :P

EDIT: Also, Check this out! It is VERY similar to Hound's setting, and some very recognizable voices (if you watch the more well-known Abridgers like LittleKuriboh and MasakoX).

I'm more interested in the MMO setting, as I've already got some concepts for it. If it goes the other way, I'll likely just watch, as I find there's only so many ways to rehash 'gunslinger' and 'native companion'.

hmm.. that new world sounds pretty fun, actually.. The fantasy western was interesting, but this is more interesting to me.

How about a tank character who has a 'taunt' attack that is an affliction, but instead of recovering from it with a save, it's an alternate save attack roll: Vs me?
Essentially they take debuffs that they can only get rid of by attacking me.
Alternately I could use a mind control affliction limited to : 'Attack me'. I presume that could be worth a -2 limitation?

Complaints? Really ?

Do we pay for these items or are they freebies.

The New World option sounds like a lot of fun. I vote for that one.

At the same time, in the New World, will there be any "Old World Technology" available to be found? Flashlights, military rations and the like?

I would also imagine that the characters might have at least a few skills representing themselves outside the game, no? Things like languages, cooking, some tech knowledge or the like that might be at odds with the barbarian Tauren with the mighty hewn battle axe for example...

Hm! I think (assuming we go the MMO route) I'm going to play a gnome bard or priest. Support class, ho!
