The Seduction of 2E

Postby Master of Misfits » Sun Oct 02, 2005 10:01 pm

I used to love Mutants and Masterminds. But when my game group disbanded, I didn't have an outlet for that love. Just this Friday, my friend and I started a new game group, and we played M+M again. Now, I still have the first edition books and we've made first edition characters for it, but I wonder if i shoudl invest in 2E books now. Is it well worth the changes? What are the pros and cons of the edition?

The first thing to do is read through the super-vision articles that previewed 2e.

Oh, and by the way, I don't use drawbacks in my game, just complications.

There are no sides. It's just an upgrade!

And all tech-heads gotta keep up with the upgrades. ^_^

Talking about "seduction of 2e"... how come my 1e rules questions go completely unnoticed and unanswered??

People are blinded by their focus on 2e.

Also, I know there are people who aren't planning on switching anytime soon but they aren't the more prolific posters, so it will take longer for them to respond.

Thirdly, make sure your questions weren't answered earlier via the old FAQ, 1e rules forum, or 1e official rules archive.

So basically, the game is just as fun, but better and more balanced? Or less confusing? I'm playing with players new to RPG's in general (at least table-top versions) so I'd like to make things as clear for them as possible.

Basic principle, the biggest fans post on these boards. The biggest fans tend to follow the trends of the system. By extension the biggest fans are moving to 2e. It's not universally true but it's definitely a statistical majority.

Our group is not really planning on switching over anytime soon. We will eventually get around to it. If I had to guess I'd say next summer or so. We all have the first edition book, and we're really enjoying the game we have going. I think we'll switch when the campaign draws to a close and it's time to start another one.
That's not a good start, but keep going.
