vehicle combat

Ok..I admit it..I'm confused :?
I'm trying to get my head around vehicle combat but a couple of things seem to elude me.... My hero team has an X-Men style jet and are having a dog fight with a fighter jet. I've designed the vehicles and know that a character uses the pilot skill, but what are the defenses/attack bonus's of the vehicles????? I can't seem to find any mention of this in the rule book.

I would use a base defense of 10, applying the vehicle's size modifier.

As for an attack bonus, if the book doesn't specify, use the ranged attack bonus of the pilot/gunner.

I have some major problems with the system and I am looking at the one in d20 Modern.
