Blast with Fade & Slow Fade.

Postby MorbiusPhyre » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:22 am

I'm kinda new to M&M and I was thinking of making a character with Blast 10 with the fade draw back, which would lower the effectiveness of blast until I ran out of power points (20 blasts and no more) I wanted to apply slow fade to this (twice) to make it last longer. I'm confused though as to how it would it progress on the Time & Value progression chart?

Normally 1 use makes Blast lose 1PP So with slow fade X2 make it so it loses 1 PP every 5 uses? (Slow fade's description says it starts at 1 round, then 1 minute, then 5, etc that's why I'm confused)

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that Slow Fade was meant to apply to depleting powers like that. Rather, it was built for powers which dissipate over time such as Drain, Boost, and anything with Independent.

Yeah, Slow Fade is a big enough screw already, I wouldn't think it would be allowed on a Fade per use power.

Hmm I see.

From the entry under Fades, it seems like it was intended for powers with instant duration (like blast), and it says slow fade reduces the rate at which it fades,

but slow fade seems more intended for powers with rounds/minutes duration.

You know, in retrospect, Slow Fade is less abusive on per use powers than on per time powers. I might have to reconsider it.

It seems like to me with Blast 10 (20 PP) with slow fade 2 it would take 5 uses to lose 1 PP. And effectively get 95 uses out of blast before it has to be recharged.

96+ Rank 10 (20 PP)
86-95 Rank 9 (18-19 PP)
76-85 Rank 8 (16-17 PP)
66-75 Rank 7 (14-15 PP)
56-65 Rank 6 (12-13 PP)
46-55 Rank 5 (10-11 PP)
36-45 Rank 4 (08-09 PP)
26-35 Rank 3 (06-07 PP)
16-25 Rank 2 (04-05 PP)
06-15 Rank 1 (02-03 PP)
00-05 Unusable (00-01 PP)

So you're getting 95 attacks, which are constantly growing weaker for 12 PP versus an infinite number of the same strength attacks for 20 PP

Slow Fade 2+ is pretty bad either way. But if you are only talking 1 rank of Slow Fade, then per use isn't quite as bad as over time.
