making a polymath

Postby poodle » Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:48 pm

Hi I am making a genius character who I want to be able to have a variable skills and feats power being able to adjust both at once. I am just really unsure how to cost it out and would it be much cheaper than just buying shapeshift with a limitation humans only. Can anyone help?

If you have the Mastermind's Manual, you can look up the Variable Power that would let you do whatever you want.

Or, I'd suggest making an array of skills, that you then swap out with as needed. Enhanced trait whatever 3 gives you twelve skill points, then for one more pp each, you can get 12 skill points in any other skill as well.

that's a good way of doing a character with a limited number of skills and I will probably use if for an inventor type character but for someone who pretty much knows everything it starts getting a little points prohibitive.

If you are just doing skills and feats, you can get away with 1 rank, free action, continuous for 9pp, 10pp with Innate. Thats enough to max out on any skill every round.

so the base cost is 7? I am guessing you added the extra of duration:continuous and action:free. I have 15pp to play with. So I thought if I went with Shapeshift 8pp/rank limited:human only and innate that would let me spend 10pp on everything. I realise if I got stunned that I would lose everything but I might take that risk. It also means it takes a little effort and isn't instant e.g. free action which seems in keeping with shapechange. I like the continuous extra but I would rather have 10pp to play with than 5pp. might have to see if I can skim something from somewhere else.

multiple skills and feats is 6pp, base is standard action to change, sustained duration.
so increasing to free action is +2pp/rank, and continuous duration is +1pp/rank.

I did it as "a group of powers with a particular narrow descriptor" myself. I thought Enhanced Feats and Enhanced Skills, particularly as it was limited to what I could justify the guy knowing using some posthypnotic techniques, was a narrow enough descriptor.

I think rule of common sense applies here.
