The last of the new Evil Dead recruits. A mentally disadvantaged man, this doesn't make him any less vicious or sadistic. He's a skilled knife-fighter and thrower, who drools and giggles as he guts people. Demonstrates an amazingly strong skull so I've given him a couple ranks of protection.

Deller is N.U.R.S.E.'s top enforcer, a by-the-book paramilitary officer who thinks he should be leading the Claws, regarding Dragon as old and washed-up. The Claws though all hate him and show him no respect. He's a good fighter but tends to get himself injured a lot, typically while trying to shoot opponents in the back. Later on in the series as N.U.R.S.E.'s sinister motives are revealed he and the Claws become allies and he and Dragon come to show each a bit more respect.

Captain Marvel is the modern name given to the bearer of the power of SHAZAM, William Batson. Billy is just a child, but when he utters the word he becomes an enhanced adult version of himself. As Captain Marvel Billy acts and speaks as a serious adult and is fully aware of all his powers and the tremendous responsibilities they bring. It is his duty to protect the Earth from all those who would misuse magic to harm it. He is aided in this by the ancient mystic he knows only as the Wizard. From his seat in the Rock of Eternity the Wizard watches across all of space, time and dimensions and directs Captain Marvel to wherever he is needed. Billy is also free to use his powers to aid those in need and combat villainy. He may never use his powers for evil or personal gain though, if he did he would lose all his powers and they would go to another chosen by the Wizard.

The six ancients who empower him speak to him at times, offering advice and encouragement, often conflicting. Billy doesn't always heed their advice, being a strong-willed lad with ideas of his own. Part of the power of SHAZAM is that he can imbue it into others, causing them to transform and acquire the same powers. He can do this to up to six others. Billy has used this ability to empower his friends to aid him, and even a tiger from the zoo.

Time for a run of builds from another webcomic. Sidekick Girl is about the eponymous assistant superheroine Valerie Upton. She wanted to be a superheroine but didn't have the looks for it, so got assigned as a sidekick to a more photogenic superheroine, Illumina. It's a classic 'clever servant, stupid master' story. In the comic Illumina has negligible superpowers and no other skills so Val does all the work, a large part of which is saving Illumina's voluptuous backside. Val is tough, relentless and highly protective of her friends, even Illumina. Her superpower is that she cannot die and can slowly regenerate. Naturally this means the 'Good Thing You Can Heal' trope is in force and she gets busted up a lot. Aside from that she's a lower-level bad-ass normal, with a particular aptitude for engineering.

Val's superhero, Mackenzie Jade. The two women are almost diametric opposites, with Illumina being girly and ditzy. In the comic she is only a superhero because of her looks, her powers are that she can float at walking pace 3ft above the ground and glow gently. She has no chops for being a superhero, she just stands around and squeals helplessly during fights. I find that this rather overplays the purpose of having a dig at how women are portrayed in comics. Illumina is so useless it is just not credible that anyone would have her be a superhero. The above build portrays her as having considerable powers, it's just that she is not very good at using them and needs direction in a superfight, and she has none of the detective and technical skills.

Val's good friend and fellow sidekick. He's a walking brick, lumbering stolidly into fights and pounding the bad guys into the ground or through the ceiling. In the Sidekick Girl world all supers are divided into heroes and sidekicks. This is not done based on power level or competence, but on looks. The gorgeous people get to be heroes, the ordinary spuds who happen to have powers and the ability to use them act as their support. Jasper Belmont is big and buff but has a hefty gut, which is just naturally how he looks, he isn't fat. The comic then goes and contradicts itself by having him wear a corset in his costume which somehow gives him a flat, sixpack stomach in a skintight suit, so he could easily be a hero. The pic used is therefore one of him in civilian clothes.

Another of Val's sidekick friends. Hazel Abernathy is a powerful hero, with speeding brick powers. As she runs she becomes denser and stronger, allowing her to survive the pace of movement and also clobber villains. While Val and Jas often get down about being relegated to sidekicks and rail against the system, Haze is happy as she gets on really well with the hero she is assigned to. Later in the comic she moves up to full hero status. She's a smart nerd who is always manically cheerful, declaiming the wonders of playing D&D to her friends and lecturing villains on how the science of her powers works to let her kick their asses.

Despite having an unearthly beauty Chris Leary is also a sidekick. I think it's because his androgynous appearance is a bit too baffling to 'the agency', the organisation which controls superheroes in the comic. He's a bad-ass normal mostly, his power is that anyone looking at him becomes confused. He tends to do this to people in normal life as well, Val and Jas were unable to decide whether he was a man or a woman when they first saw him. They both asked him out, and hilarity, for Haze at least, ensued when he turned out to be a gay man. In character he is a sweet, teasing flirt with a tendency to be distracted by attractive men.

A villain, but an unwilling one. A former soldier he has been trapped and blackmailed into working as a henchman for various villains. He hates his position and has often sabotaged his 'employers' schemes. He and Val were lust at first sight, even as they tried to kill each other, and after a few dates and some clashes are now in a relationship. None of Val's friends trust him, and the comic hints that there may be more to his predicament than he has confessed to Val. Not that powerful as supers go, but has a good range of skills from his military training.

A former sidekick to Illumina she walked out on her when she got fed up with Mack's basic incompetence. Val hates her for abandoning Mack in the middle of a fight when she was injured. She has since crossed over to the other side, working as a villain for the 'red agency', some sort of organisation which villains belong to. She is selfish, bitchy and greedy, in it for the money.

Tornado Boy's hero. His powers are based around range and mobility, so the two complement each other. The two men get along quite well but don't associate much outside of the job. He is a background character so I don't have a good pic of him and for his powers I've just put in everything a wind controller of some power and control might have. He was the one who gave poor Jas his ridiculous and inappropriate codename, which makes him sound like he is twelve years old and has powers like his boss.

Haze's hero when we first met her. She hasn't appeared much so I've done powers based on her name. A brick, but with some superspeed and the ability to use her strength to cause a concussive impact to damage and knock prone those around her. She's a skilled fighter and a keen athlete. The two women get on well and are very loyal to each other, Dakota Stone sponsored Hazel's move to hero status.

Top hero of Metro City where the comic is set. Despite his appearance and the gargoyle he is not a Batman expy, he is a flying blaster, and doesn't have much in the way of skills outside of doing that. He and Mack act like a couple in a romance novel when they are together, all passionate declarations and tormented inner monologues. It drives Val mad. Later in the series he took on Puzzle as his 'youthful ward', and shortly after broke up with Mack. The comic has yet to say if the two events are related.

The hero of the duo Sword & Shield, his powers seem to be those a flying brick. To add some variation I've given his unarmed strike some sword-like features. He and Shield seem to get on OK, even though he does all the work and just leaves Shield to play his DS while he beats up the bad guys. The pic is of him being rescued by his sidekick. Like a lot of the heros in this comic he has the attractive feat, since the defining quality of a hero in this setting is their good looks.

A sidekick created by a reader of the comic in a contest run by the writer/artists. He is younger than the other sidekicks, who are all adults in their 20's, being still in his teens. He is a modest and quiet kid who isn't put out by Sword hogging the limelight. His power set causes him to absorb energy, making him larger, stronger, faster and more intelligent. He starts out weak but can quickly gain power, often by getting a hero to punch or blast him to get him started. His power fades as it gets it used up and it can only be recharged by being hit with an attack of at least a rank equal to the power effect. This means that he has to take some hits to keep his powers going.
