Lauren Taylor

Image

Description: On the outside, Lauren Taylor looks like a magazine-ready model of a young, female, urban professional. This is in stark contrast to where her family has been for generations.

Four generations ago, on her Father's Mother's side, her ancestor refused to often aid to a vindictive hag. A curse was placed upon the family line. Crops and businesses failed, health was poor, and only one child each generation lived to adulthood. In the logic that only hags and other mystical folk seem to follow, each generation received one chance to prove they were made of better stuff than their parents.

Lauren was the first to pass the seemingly mundane test, giving her umbrella to an elderly crone caught in a rainstorm, and then paying with the last of her cash a taxi to get her home. As the money exchanged hands a cackling was heard and the old witch disappeared from the taxi in a burst of smoke. Mentally Lauren witnessed the run-ins, and consequences of the run-ins, that her family had with the witch. Blinking back to reality, Lauren found herself standing on the curb, under her own umbrella, with the taxicab driver asking her where she'd like to go.

Not only was the curse broken, but Lauren was gifted the power of the Evil Eye to make up for the 20 years of bad luck she had already suffered. Now, Lauren is able to control the powers of bad luck. Still a novice in its use, she has been lured into battling against various foes by Adrian Eldritch who could sense the presence of the Evil Eye in her.

Still without a code name, Lauren only does cape-work when convinced to do so by others, and tries her best to live out her life as normally as possible.

Re: NYpurdy's Characters -2ed- Half-ways

I got distracted by some other RPG systems, but I'm backing to playing M&M again. Below is a group of low-powered super-teens I hope you can use.

The Half-way House

The group of homeless teenage meta-humans have banded together in order to survive on the streets. They currently call an abandoned building they’re squatting in ‘home,’ and call it the Half-way House. Whenever they are forced to change hideouts, the name comes with them, since they frequently say they are more than “half-way forgotten” by everyone else. All of them go exclusively by their new chosen name.

SIlver Bullet

Silver Bullet is the oldest of the teens - 17 years old. He had been in foster care for years before runing away at 13 and taking to the streets. Silver Bullet considers himself the boss of the other Half-ways, and all of the others are glad to let him take the lead. Silver Bullet can coat his skin in a thin layer of protective silver-like armor, and can shoot out a rapid hail of silver projectiles.

Zombie-Girl

Zombie-Girl can’t remember her life before she woke up in a dumpster. Her skin is cold and pale, her eyes unblinking, and her hair, nails and lips black. Those who interact with her can’t help but feel uncomfortable. Zombie-Girl is in fact undead, and returns back to life after dying. She longs for acceptance, and despite the loyalty of the other teens, it’s her own self-disgust that hurts her the most.

Puff

Puff was kicked out of his parent’s house after coming out as gay. The Half-ways like him just the way he is, and as far as Puff cares that makes them the only family he needs. His ability to breath out a cloud of smoke may not be much by super-hero standards, but for a team of modern-day street urchins its been a lifesaver time and again.

Buttercup

Buttercup ran away from her abusive stepfather, and by the lack of a missing person’s report it seems that it was fine by him. Buttercup matured early, which still brings her unwanted attention from men much-too-old for her liking, but her ability to pacify others with a touch has saved her more than once.

Pete

Pete always has his hoodie zipped and the hood up to hide the scales across his cheeks, down his arms and chest, and the ridges down his back. The teeth and claws kept behind smile-less lips and pocketed hands. What he can’t hide is the whip-like tail. Quiet and shy, he is super-protective of his little sister Twee.

Twee

Twee is the youngest of the Half-ways, 9 years old. She comes across as even younger, however, and is what might be best called “super-humanly cute.” With blond ringlets and big, blue eyes she has a shirley-temple like appearance. Twee often is sent up to rich-looking couples, who go out of their way to help her “find her lost parents” only to be robbed in the process. Innocent and naive, Twee would do anything her brother Pete asks.

Using the Half-ways

Like any good group of super-powered orphans, the Half-ways fit nicely into several story-types. An important bit of bling that the heroes need could be swiped by them. Or maybe there is a rash of robberies that the heroes are called in to investigate. Perhaps the Half-ways are moving towards more violent or dangerous crimes under the duress of a more nefarious villain. Or the kids might be being hunted by some villain or organization and reach out to the heroes for help. Of course, these chain nicely and the Half-ways can be introduced as nuisances, get exploited, and ultimately get rescued by your favorite capes.

Meta-DI

The Metahuman Digitization Initiative is a pseudo-governmental program that is ostensibly designed for the capture, detainment, and rehabilitation of Metahuman threats.

Meta-DI agents are mixture of special ops soldiers and metahumans who are commissioned to locate, detain, and digitize offending metahumans. Large, rifle-like weapons are able to perform the digitization process, and the digitized metahumans are stored within large cartridges that are very high-tech and very expensive to produce.

International human rights standards require that Digitized metahumans are re-materialized regularly, and receive ongoing rehabilitation. Meta-DI has successfully avoided legal problems from delaying trial for digitized treats by agreeing to these other terms. Secretly, Meta-DI has a "rewards program" where digitized metahumans are able to earn rights and privileges by participating in mercenary work for the organization.

As of right now the first digitization process only works on targets that are unconscious or otherwise incapacitated until better mechanics are decided upon.

Re: NYpurdy's Characters -2ed- The Halfway House, Avatars

The Gods have long been banned from the mortal Earth by the Pact, the cosmic contract created by the Master Mage Adrian Eldritch. As more and more inter-dimensional events occur, the power of the Pact has been weakening, allowing cosmic entities to circumvent the Pact and grant their power to mortals, creating avatars of themselves.

JoyBoy
Image
Description:
DeMarco and his crew tried to make a living performing on the Chicago Magnificent Mile. Any day of the year they could be seen drumming on the upturned utility buckets for the cash shoppers would throw their way. DeMarco has never shared what exactly transpired while in the back of the squad car in what was part of the larger effort to "clean-up" Chicago, but when he was let out of the back of the police car he was a changed man. Now, DeMarco goes exclusively by JoyBoy, claiming to be the Deity incarnate.

JoyBoy has many powers granted to him; super-hearing, resistance to mental attacks and some other effects, and increased agility. What is most remarkable, however, is JoyBoy's magical ability to entrance anyone who listens to his drumming into uncontrollable dancing. JoyBoy tends to show up around the country and the Caribbean where he gathers a wild bunch of partyers around him. While generally harmless, these groups frequently engage in excessive drug-use, wild and loud concerts, and free love - all of which brings them in conflict with local residents and law enforcement. JoyBoy also shows up occasionally in the direct conflict and indirect politics that Avatars are often compelled to engage in with other divinely-powered metahumans.

Wishpoosh
Image
Description:
The Primeval Lake is a pristine, crystal blue body of magically pure water surrounded by an unspoiled evergreen forest. This body of water exists in its own seperate micro-dimension, guarded by the beaver, Wishpoosh. This massive beaver is able to travel from the Primeval Lake to any body of water across the cosmic coil, and likewise transform any body of water into a gateway to the Primeval Lake. Wishpoosh occasionally seeks out heroes attuned to nature to act as guardians of the magical water and the surround forest.
