Agatha - PL 5

Image

Agatha is a member of an extremely wealthy merchant family. While her cousins played at being merchant princes or adventures, she was quite content to stay in the back, working on this little project or that. Most of them were rather spectacular failures, others went boom (those were fun) and a few even managed do what she intended. As she grew older, she became more skilled in this new Science! and it came to consume her every available moment. Of course, she allowed herself to learn the family trade- but mostly that was so that she could continue in her work. Most recently, her aunt has asked her to look after her visiting younger cousin. While it will be a distraction, at least her cousin knows how to be quiet- right?

Prejudice: Shape-shifting freak

Relationship: Master Lee: After hir parents abandoned her, she was raised by Master Lee. Shi remains very fond of the old man and seeks his approval and guidance.

Vanity/ insecurity: While generally a good, humble kid, Jamie can't keep from showing off, trying to look the most attractive or really let go in physical endeavors.

Defense
Dodge 8, Parry 8, Fortitude 8, Toughness 8, Will 8

Power Points
Abilities 70 + Powers 30 + Advantages 14 + Skills 8 (24 ranks) + Defenses 3 = 125

History: Jamie was the victim of yet another 'stage mom', being pushed into a hundred auditions and 'talent' shows, specializing in dance and gymnastics. Eventually, Jamie wasn’t willing to live that life anymore and started to rebel in little ways, little flubs or dawdling or costuming errors that cost big points.

In the start, it was easier to convince hir mother to go along with dance or cheerleader training, after all, those activities could be useful in trying to get a part. Like many other things, it got harder as shi got older, insisting on wearing gender-inappropriate clothing and taking up more serious sports- like martial arts! Shi went searching for a teacher that would be willing to teach hir on hir meager allowance and time. Shi eventually came to study under Master Lee. It was a rocky relationship to begin, but eventually they came to agreements and the paternal guidance that shi was missing in hir ‘normal’ life.

It was this relationship that saved young Jamie's life and sanity. Teenage years are hard for everyone, it’s harder when you're hopefully confused about your sexuality, disastrous when you're also a t-baby. Classic situation of getting serious on an early date, freaking out and … dissolving into a puddle of goo. This got the teenager disowned by hir very suddenly very conservative family, an outcast at school and on the edge of becoming another casualty to the horrors of being a teenager. It was only through the tough love of Master Lee that shi survived, making training so much more serious, both of the body and the spirit.

Very recently, Master Lee has recognized that shi needs to get back into the wider world and has encouraged hir to apply both Claremont and to further hir relationship with the Albright Institute.

Topics of discussion:

On the frequency of shape-shifting wrote:A. I'm thinking that the most common forms will be a Pump Up the Volume Christian Slater and Missy Peregrym from Stick It. One of them is the natural form.
B. While I want the transformations to have significance, I'd still want to have it as an opportunity for roleplaying. One of the themes will how form and function interplay.
C. It's more likely that shi plays within genders rather than between them.
D. With all of that- I'd still like to have the morph power be game useful, probably in terms of infiltration. Though there might be more creative uses.

Growing up in the middle of nowhere (Smallville?), the ‘Fly Over states’ can be hard if you’re not interested in following with small town living. It can be unbearable when you have your eye on a dream of something more glamorous, Tabitha grew up in such a place and a time, when the height of fashion was something from a sale at the local strip mall. While her friends blew their money on momentary fancies, Tabitha scrimped and saved for subscriptions for the latest fashion magazines from Milan, New York and Japan. As she grew older, she even was able get a part time job with a small local dressmaker. She was thrilled at the opportunity to put what she learned into practice and horribly disappointed when the people around her just were not interested in those fancy things.

Tabithia came even closer to her dreams when she was admitted to Gotham University as an undeclared major with a small scholarship. It was a great opportunity, but she still had to work to make ends meet. She fluttered through a series of temporary jobs but they were never a good fit for the day dreaming young woman. Facing heavy debts and not having many other choices, she finally gave into the suggestion of a friend of a friend to do some modeling work for a predatory agency. She doesn’t want remember much of the experience, but it left a mark, resulting in a crippling shyness and avoidance from the world. Only her work can pull her out of her shell. The LC Foundation is helping her to handle her incredible abilities with fabric and to overcome her fear and get back into the world. Her dream has changed, while she’s still fascinated with high fashion, she’s now more focused on helping people present themselves better through clothing, whether it’s transforming the homeless for a much needed job interview or helping push a newly fledged hero with the right costume. Perceptions are so changed by what a person wears, both in how the world views them and how they view themselves. Eyes in high places are starting to take notice of her and have approached the Foundation about steady work opportunities.

Background: The humans make an understandable mistake when they consider the invading force a single monolith. This is not the first time that the Invaders have worked to capture a planet for the Harvest. Some planet's populations join the Invaders, others are stripped barren and devoid of life, but those are the lucky ones. The (a sound curiously like the sound of a modem connecting) are among the unlucky for they are useful. The !#%^ are living batteries, about to release large amounts of the same energy that the Invaders use to fuel their ships. The pacifistic !#%^ have, to their horror, been enslaved to be instruments in the continued violence of war.

The being known as Lightning Bulb is an anomaly among the !#%^ and is now shunned for it. When the ship that she powered crashed landed, she managed to escape from her containment chamber and survive- barely. Her treatment at the hands of her human captors almost ended that as well. It was only through the actions of Dr. (important researcher in the project) that she was saved and given a second chance. She has seized upon this second chance eagerly, devouring information at every chance and starting to become an individual. Even worse, in the eyes of the !#%^, she seeks to work against the Invaders at the side of her new human companions. No other race should have to suffer alone.

A fun little concept that ultimately didn't go anywhere.

A blind courtier samurai-ko that is often dismissed because of her handicap but is also highly valued for her family standing. Basically, a Disney princess in Rokugon.

Dr Asclepius - PL 8
Cause of death: malnutrition, lack of sleep
Legal status: English citizen with revoked driver's license

Image

Complications:
Motivation: Medicine!: Dr. Asclepius is fascinated with the human body and all of its mysteries and can be difficult to pull away.

Asperger’s: Insight rolls can lead to very odd conclusions. On the other hand, Dr. Asclepius is close but not quite normal, which is enough to make relationships difficult. Most people would avoid him if he wasn’t so brilliant.

Rational Scientist: Everything can be explained by science, we just need to figure out what is. This can cause problems in the supernatural world.

Power los: Bipolar: The energies are not balanced within his body, leading to dramatic changes in appearance (wild eyed and energetic versus corpse like) and behavior (chaotic and crazed, a party animal or detached and morose). Sometime that’s under control, other times it’s not.

History: Michael Asclepius never got along with the other kids growing up. He didn’t understand them and it was very mutual. He did have fun growing up though. He constantly danced between different studies, always delving deeper than the local libraries could keep up with. He finally settled into the study of medicine after coming across an injured bird. Unfortunately, while other kids could take apart clocks or phones, taking something living apart to see how it works and trying to put it back together again doesn’t work very well. Still he worked with is obsession, eventually going on to medical school and further study. Even during that time, while he never scored well in personal skills, he came to be known as one of those go to guys when it came to group projects- he would do the entire thing and do it better than anyone else. This reputation continued on to his professional life, not someone to hang out with but someone to respect. He eventually settled into a niche position, if there was a strange case, he was able to investigate and figure things out- just don’t ask him along the way to explain himself. This dedication to his work also lead to his death, too many missed meals, too many sleepless nights. It was several weeks before anyone actually noticed. His field of study changed, to trying to explain this new state of being and how it ended up having so many different manifestations. He now works at the Clara O'Hearn Memorial Clinic as one of their lead researchers.

Power Points
Abilities 32 + Powers 36 + Advantages 6 + Skills 31 (61 ranks) + Defenses 18 = 123

Features (from Power Profiles)
Aura of Life: You radiate an additional degree of life-force, promoting the health and well-being of living things around you, such that anything growing or healing in your presence gains a +2 circumstance bonus to any necessary checks.

Deathly Mein: You seem dead to all appearances, even though you are not: your flesh is pale and cold, you don’t have a discernible heartbeat or other vital signs, and so forth. Effects that detect “life” do not work on you. However, you do still need to breathe and powers that target living creatures do still work on you.

Servants: You can summon “servant” agents to handle various routine, mundane tasks but not useful in conflicts or challenges, kind of like a portable Personnel feature for a headquarters (Hero’s Handbook, page 177).

Undead Presence: Undead creatures tend to regard you as “one of them” and have, at worst, a neutral attitude towards you. They do not consider you a living creature for commands involving such, and may simply ignore you.
