Background: Tyler “Ryder” Beck realized early on that he wasn’t going to really get out of the slums in New York; he didn’t do well in school, when he went that is, and he knew that his using his fists to solve his problems wouldn’t get him too far. So going into crime was pretty much a no brainer in his mind.

However, Tyler was perceptive enough to realize that the guys who stood out on the streets were quickly cut down in their youth. So he decided to never stick out too much, preferring to be a right hand man to a guy calling the shots. He was undeniably talented in his chosen field, and eventually found work as part of the Bishop's criminal network. During a procedure to create a chemical compound to grant his boss new powers, the Sentinels burst in. In the short fight, Tyler was tossed into the vat of chemicals, and gained the powers his boss wanted for himself, powers over the basic elements themselves. Ever since then, he's enjoyed a lucrative career as metahuman-muscle-for-hire for anyone willing to though he often takes work from the Bishop.

If it helps you feel any better Shock, the Bishop is active in New York instead of Freedom City.

So he's not really FORCE Ops problem, yet. :wink:

Besides, the Bishop is more my take on a behind the scenes kind of criminal. So if you're dealing with him directly then you hit the motherload in fighting crime. 9 out of 10 times you'd only have to deal with his agents.

Motivation ~Revenge: Dr. Animo is always looking for the means to create the ‘perfect subject’ that will allow him to finally prove his theories were correct.

Quirk ~Knowledge: Dr. Animo will do almost anything to gain more information on aliens and other strange types of animals/creatures to further his ability to create custom creatures of his own.


Background: James Animo is a brilliant scientist who became obsessed with genetic experiments on animals. He was once a promising researcher in veterinary science that had a special way with animals, his career was cut short when it was discovered that he was performing twisted genetic experiments on animals that e had hoped that would win him the Verties Award, one of the top awards in veterinary science. The loss drove Animo over the edge, thinking that he’d been unfairly persecuted due to the jealousy of his peers and he dropped off the map for five years as he perfected his research.

When he next appeared, Dr. Animo had created the "Transmodulator", a device that can turn animals into giant monsters by combining the genetic traits of multiple animals (and in later times bring back dead creatures such as dinosaurs as well as incorporate metahuman abilities into animals). He attempted to use his new monsters to take his revenge against society but he was stopped by the Champions. After this first encounter, Dr. Animo became one of the most recurrent villains the team faced, usually trying to create armies of mutant monsters, and was even able to use DNA information from his dealings with rogue members of the Lor Republic on alien races and animals to enhance the abilities of his custom created creatures. Dr. Animo has recently managed to developed within himself the ability to mentally communicate any of the creatures he creates.

In the years since his first appearance Dr. Animo has become less of a foe of the Champions, having now dealt with members of the Sentinels, the Freedom League both as groups as well as challenging various members individually, though it seems that Animo has a special dislike of Daedalus and Troll; as one is able to disable Animo’s technology while the other simply is able to physically best his creatures with little trouble.

Low-End Crook: Weirdbeard is considered to be strictly a lesser super-criminal, most masterminds won’t even bother hiring him.


Background: Herman Jenkens is a metaman with the power of animated hair but due to premature baldness he decided to grow out a beard to take advantage of it as a criminal, calling himself Weirdbeard.

Weirdbeard is considered to be 'small time' by most the criminal community and has been beaten by Whoop-Ant and K-9 in the past. Despite being arrested a few times, he's managed to to plead to reduced or lesser charges and is soon back out on the streets.

Thieves' Guild

The Thieves’ Guild:
A gathering of six super-crooks (the Bolo, the Firebug, the Huckster, Looking Glass, the Mad Maple, and the Weather Mistress) who all share a love of money, as in the ‘taken from others in large amounts’ kind, they combine a mixture of exotic weaponry with unique personalities to pull spectacular robberies despite a complete lack of mutual trust.

The Guild has somehow managed to stay active over the years but considered to be ‘lower end’ criminals’ when compared to the likes of Mastermind or Overshadow since the Guild is so focused on profitable crimes. When a member is captured normally one of the other members helps the captured member escape, normally for a huge fee or promise of a future favor. So it’s rare for any member of the Guild to not be active at any given moment and as a result the Thieves’ Guild has ran afoul of the majority of all the heroes who operate in Freedom City as well as members of the Sentinels, the Champions and a few other solo heroes in other cities.

Loves The Mamacitas...: The Bolo just can't help himself around an attractive woman; he'll flirt with her while robbing a place or attempt to impress her with his skill as a criminal. Sometimes this leads him into troubles.


Background: Eduardo Guerrero was driven from his home town in Argentina thanks to his unrepentant womanizing ways with only his skills he developed as a gaucho to get by on. But after seeing few options for himself Eduardo decided to turn to a life of crime using his skill with a bolo as his trademark.

Even though he is a crook, he's not viewed as harshly as other members of the Guild simply due to the fact that Eduardo is totally honest, and very charming when he wants to be, about his being a lecherous crook, which he romanticizes a bit but that's just his way.

Now a days he robs to fund the building of newer high-tech, flame-based weapons, which are all designed to make even more fires for him to admire.

Complications:
He's A Talker: Seriously, it's difficult to get the Huckster to shut up. He'll just ramble on and on with various tall-tales until you want to punch unconscious to silence him.


Background: Johnny Goff was a small time actor who was always trying to sell himself in auditions and coming up short due to his tendency to overact, and when he did get a role he was always panned by reviewers.

To support himself in-between gigs Johnny worked as a door-to-door salesman, which he was did well as most people in suburbia couldn't pick up on his lie-laden exagerations about the toys he peddled. Eventually though Johnny pushed his luck a little too far, pushing defective products for high profits led to a massive lawsuit after a few kids were hurt by his faulty toys that wiped him out fiscally with only his storage space filled with faulty merchandise.

Johnny had always had issues with his mental health and had been taking medicine to deal with it but after being wiped out he was unable to keep up with it and he soon suffered a mental break that found him determined to use his wares, heavily modified now, to turn a profit and quickly rebuild this finaces as the Huckster.

The closest thing the Thieves' Guild has to a leader, the Huckster basically is the one that convinces the others to pull big, flashy thefts thanks to his ability to fast-talk anyone within listening distance. The other members of the Guild have a love/hate relationship with him because of this but know that when his jobs go off well they'll be in the money for a good bit of time.


I've never really been a fan of the Huckster, I think it's has something to do with his gimmick more than anything else. It just didn't click for me. All the charm and everything else is fine but his gimmmick I just couldn't buy. Just me, I guess.

So I kind of reworked the idea a bit to be closer to his inspiration character.

Self Absorbed: Looking Glass is all about one thing: Looking Glass. She won't help the other members of the Thieves' Guild if there is any risk to herself involved and if things go wrong Looking Glass is the first one to bail on the caper.


Background: Marguerite Frey is one of the most beautiful women in the world, as well as one of the most vain. She became obsessed with mirrors, thanks to how much time she spent looking at herself in them, and learned all she could about them; uncovering such scientific applications that they bordered on sorcery. Rather than work hard to patent and sell her inventions (as Marguerite was used to having everything simply handed to her) she decided to steal anything that caught her eye as Looking Glass, Mistress of Mirrors.

She's the most selfish of the Guild (which says a lot) and is only rarely invited to partake in the Guild's crimes, since Bola will always include Looking Glass because his pride over his reputation with the ladies won't let him stop trying turn her into one of his mamacitas.

Taking It Back: The Mad Maple performs 'economic redresses' (or as the police call them, armed robberies) as a means of rectifying the wrongs the United States has done to Canada.


Background: Adam Jury is a mentally unstable Canadain who feels the United States is holding Canada back from its rightful place of glory and is obsessed with avenging the slights the U.S. heaps onto his homeland. Thanks to his discovery of Doctor Zero's (a golden age villain) lost laboratory, Adam was able to create even more advanced weapons to become the Maple Leaf (which no one calls him, ever) and pursue his quest.

The Maple is a fanatic without a doubt and the Guild keeps him around because he makes an excellent fall guy since he will never retreat or surrender (they also like the extra pay off that comes with breaking him out).

Motivation ~Greed: The Weather Mistress feels that her hard life growing up has entitled her to take whatever she wants now, and she wants a lot.


Background: To say that Courtney Cline's family suffered due to extreme weather is an understatment; her uncle and aunt's farm ruined by drought, her family home destroyed in a flood, and finally her parents killed by a tornado.

Courtney became determined to never be controlled by the weather ever again, instead she would become its mistress, and she dedicated herself to to the study of meteorology as well as any kind of technology that might let her bend nature to her will.

Despipte her genius, Courtney was unable to make any real headway in her goal until she came into possession of several bits of old tech used by Doctor Stratos, which she used to create her Weather Vane and created the identity of the Weather Mistress to steal the riches that were 'owed to her all along'.
