Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future!

"Earth, 2147. The legacy of the Metal Wars, where man fought machines and machines won.
Bio-Dreads — monstrous creations that hunt down human survivors...and digitize them.
Volcania, center of the Bio-Dread Empire; stronghold and fortress of Lord Dread, feared ruler of this new order.

But from the fires of the Metal Wars arose a new breed of warrior, born and trained to bring down Lord Dread and his Bio-Dread Empire. They were "Soldiers Of The Future"--mankind's last hope.

Their leader--Captain Jonathan Power, master of the incredible Power Suits, which transform each soldier into a one-man attack force.
Major Matthew 'Hawk' Masterson, fighter in the skies.
Lieutenant Michael 'Tank' Ellis, ground assault unit.
Sergeant Robert 'Scout' Baker, espionage and communications.
And Corporal Jennifer 'Pilot' Chase, tactical systems expert.
Together they form the most powerful fighting force in Earth's history. Their creed: to protect all life. Their promise: to end Lord Dread's rule. Their name: Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future!"

Notes: So what do you get if you based a TV series on the future war briefly seen in the Terminator movies? You get one of the best Science Fiction shows seen on television that's what. Add in cyborgs, power armor, and precursors to the T-1000 to make it even cooler. The show was written by none other than J. Michael Straczynski who would be later best known for Babylon 5. His influence can be seen by the intricate story arcs, compelling drama, and characterization inherent in the show.

You can tell that Straczynski was setting up future plots in a possible upcoming second season. Such as the lingering traces of humanity in Lord Dread. The hidden agenda of Overmind. As well as the mysterious safe haven known as Eden 2. Heck he even hinted at new members joining the team by showing there were actually seven powersuits.

It was marketed towards children and shown in Saturday mornings when it first came out. However, it's so good that I believe it could have been shown in prime time. The show was created to sell toys. Ironically enough this may have been its downfall. Parents and other interest groups were furious that a show was promoting gun violence by selling a gun toy.

I don't know much about the gun toy but it pales in comparison to modern day interactive electronics like the Nintendo Wii these days. From what I heard the gun toy pretty much sucked and didn't work as advertised. Still the concept much like the show itself was far ahead of its time. Sadly, the show was cancelled after a season with a cliffhanger of all things. On the bright side this allows GameMasters to craft their own stories based on the Captain power universe.

I am currently rewatching all 22 episodes. I should be able to finish it by next week and have some builds built by then. I'll update my index to show which heroes, equipment, vehicles, and villains I'll be doing soon. So stay tuned and Power On!

I only watched a couple of episodes in sttreaming, but I love this show. It has almost everything I like in a cyberpunkish superheroic story. I think it's very disappointing that they closed it after only one season, since many of the ideas for season 2 were very intriguing and they leaked on the net years ago.
As far as I can remember there was a new female character to replace Pilot that was meant to became Tank's regular partner and love interest. While Hawk was meant to take the lead of the team, as Power went Frank Castle on the Biodreads after the death of Pilot. Also there was athe problem with the armors, since they were gene-coded on they first operator and there was no way to bypass the lock the team had a maximum rooster of 7 members and no chance to add others, which was a pretty interesting twist.

I always loved this show growing up.
The season finale just broke my heart, though.
And because of that I'll never forget it.

Sweet- this was a killer show when I was a kid (I saw bits and pieces as a VERY young kid, and saw the majority of the series as a teenager when it was on re-runs on YTV in Canada, and it was pretty sweet). I loved the super-giant monster enemy (who later allied/feuded with the big bird guy), and Tank was the best with his awesome armour. Looking forward to this stuff.

I just updated my front page index. It now has a list of which characters I'll be doing.

The Power Level of the setting varies depending on whether a person has a powersuit on or not.
Without the suits, humans are at a maximum of PL: 8. Captain power and his team of specialists are the best at what they do. Tank is a notable exception at PL: 9. He's a genetically engineered super soldier.

With the powersuits, human PL goes up to PL: 10. One man in a powersuit can take on a entire squad of Biomech Troopers at PL: 5.

The BioDreads like Soaron are at PL: 12. Although you can give them as many powerpoints you want since they're villains. A Biodread could take on a entire army of normal human soldiers.

I'm finishing up rewatching the show this weekend. So I should have something up by Sunday. I'll do the vehicles first, then Captain Power's team, and I'll do the fearsome BioDreads last.

I loved this show!

I still feel sorry for Sven OlThorsen for what the crew did to him. It was a funny joke, though.

Can you please enlighten me on what happened to poor old Sven Ol Thorsen? I don't know the prank that
might have been played on him. It sounds intriguing.

"Landry: (about the workmen) They object to being blindfolded before they're brought in. I... can't say I much like it either.
Dr. Stuart Power: Well, then double their salary. Double yours, too if you like. Money won't mean much soon anyway."

Name: PowerBase, Size: Gargantuan (4), Toughness: 15 (5),

Features: (14) Communications, Computer, Concealed 3,

Dimensional Portal, Hangar, Infirmary, Isolated, Library, Living Space,

Power System, Security System 1, Workshop

Powers: Radio Jammer: Nullify (Radio) 5 (Extras: Area, Concentration)(15)

Final Cost: 38

Notes: The powerbase was the secret headquarters of Captain power. It was built in great secrecy during the closing years of the Metal Wars. It was designed by Captain Power's father Doctor Stuart Powers. Doctor Power would later go on to create the incredible powersuits in use by Captain Power and the soldiers of the Future.

The location of the base is a closely guarded secret unknown to anyone but a select few. It's presumed to be located somewhere in the deserts of southwest america. The base is concealed either by being built within a mountain or a Holographic projector. It solely relies on its secret location to protect it due to the base having no true defenses.

The artificial intelligent supercomputer known as Mentor controls the functions of the base. His holographic image and brain patterns are based on Doctor Stuart Power. This was done so that his son would never be without his father. Mentor has access to a digital library based on the sum knowledge of humanity.

A radio jammer disrupts any radio transmissions coming out of the powerbase. The radio jammer is used to protect the location of the base from spies or homing devices. The radio jammer does not prevent any messages being received from the outside. This allows captain power to receive distress calls for help.

The powerbase most notable piece of equipment is the recharging station for the Powersuits. It allows anyone to activate and recharge their powersuit immediately. Another interesting fact of the powerbase it that it is located right outside one of five Transit gate entrances used for teleportation. The Transit gates are used by the jumpship to travel great distances across the continent of northamerica instantaneously.

In the second season Captain power learns of the existence of a prototype powerbase. This sister base was also designed by Doctor Power. It was probably built during the early years of the Metal wars. The location of this second powerbase is said to be somewhere in the Artic circle.

"Corporal Jennifer 'Pilot' Chase: (about Power) He sure loves his Sky-bike, doesn't he?"

Name: SkyCycle, Size: Medium (0), Strength: 2 (2), Speed: 7 (14),

Defense: 9 (9), Toughness: 7 (2), Cost: 60

Features: (1) Computer

Powers: Communicator: Communications 2 (Radio) (8),

Weapons: Blasters: Ranged Damage 8 (Extras: Multiattack) (24)

Notes: The Skycycle is sometimes called a Skybike. The Skycycle is a one man personal flying
transport similar to a flying motorcycle. It can carry one passenger or a limited amount of cargo.
The Skybike is used to discreetly insert or extract individuals in a hostile area. The onboard
computer allows piloting by voice for a designated pilot.

"Captain Power: I'll buy you some time from Soaron."

Name: PowerJet, Size: Huge (2), Strength: 10 (2), Speed: 13 (26),

Defense: 6 (10), Toughness: 10 (1), Cost: 120

Features: (2) RemoteControl, SecuritySystem 1

Powers: Communicator: Communications 3 (Radio, Flat: Subtle 1) (13),

HoloCam: Concealment 4 (Normal Hearing, Normal Vision, Radar) (8),

Laser Targeting Suite: Enhanced Ranged Attack 2 (2),

PowerShields: Sustained Protection 2 (Extras: 12 Impervious) (14),

Sensors: Senses 4 (Accurate Extended 2 Radio [radar]) (4)

Weapons: IonBlasters: Ranged Damage 10 (Extras: Multiattack, Flat:

Improved Critical 1, Penetrating 5) (36)

Notes: The phoenix powerjet is the personal fighter jet used by Captain power. It can be seen riding piggyback on top of the jumpship. A elevator within the jumpship allows quick access to it. It is equivalent to a Space fighter with some upgrades such as energy shields and a ionblaster added on.

Lord Dread has his own counterpart to the powerjet called the phantom striker. Although it's sometimes called the Dread jet. It is nearly identical to Captain power's own jet. It may not have the Holocam. It does however carry a copilot (such as the unfinished Biodread Lackey).

A gun toy was based on this design. This controversial electronic toy was the centerpiece attraction for the show. It allows someone to interact with the TV show or VHS Training Tapes. Players were supposed to be shooting at the bright redlights that the BioMechs and Biodreads had on their chests. The player was suppose to dodge the incoming fire from the Biomechs blasters.

It was pretty revolutionary at the time considering this was before the Nintendo Wii. In reality, the toy barely worked if at all. Unfortunately it was this same toy that doomed the show thanks to angry parents concerned about gun violence. It all seems pretty tame now considering modern violent shooters like Dead Space and Gears of War huh? Take that overly protective concerned parents.

"Major Matthew 'Hawk' Masterson: Hawk to Jumpship, come in Jumpship.
Corporal Jennifer Chase: Jumpship here. Hawk, you alright?
Major Matthew 'Hawk' Masterson: My butt's sore, but the sky is clear."

Name: Jumpship, Size: Gargantuan (3), Strength: 12 (0), Speed: 11 (22),

Defense: 4 (10), Toughness: 12 (1), Cost: 164

Features: (3) Navigation System, Remote Control, Security System 1

Powers: Communicator: Communications 4 (Radio, Extras: Area, Selective, Flat: Subtle 1) (25),

HoloCam: Concealment 4 (Normal Hearing, Normal Vision, Radar) (8),

PowerShields: Sustained Protection 2 (Extras: 14 Impervious) (16),

Sensors: Senses 4 (Accurate Extended 1 Radio [radar], Communication Link with Mentor)(4)

Weapons: Proton Blasters: Ranged Damage 12 (24),

Alternate Effect: Wide Dispersal Mode: Line Damage 12 (1),

Proton Missiles: Ranged Damage 12 (Extras: Burst 10, Flat: Homing 8 ) (42)

Notes: The jumpship was the primary transport of Captain power and his team. It was mainly piloted by Jennifer "Pilot" Chase. Although Captain Power and Hawk can pilot it as well. It has room for some cargo and extra passengers. It can even carry a few small vehicles such as the skycycles.

The powerjet can be seen riding piggyback on top of the Jumpship. The jumpship was also used to assault hardened targets such as Fortresses and Biodreads.

It carries a Holocam which uses a holographic projector that camouflaged the ship with it's current environment. The holocam's controls were remote controlled by Sergeant Robert "Scout" Baker's wrist on his powersuit. Originally the holocam can only be utilized while the jumpship was stationary. It acted more like the illusion power rather than concealment. I updated it to a true cloaking device since it's conceivable for the advanced technology of the captain power world to have a cloaking device.

It should be noted that a Biodread's infravision can still see through all versions of the Holocam.
Afterburners were shown on the show that boosts the speed of the jumpship for a short period of time. The afterburners are best left as a powerstunt. The jumpship carries 5 Crew, 7 or more Passengers, 1 PowerJet, and 3 SkyCycles.

The BioDread empire has a counterpart with the Air troop transport. The Air Troop transport does not have the holocam. It carries a squad of sixteen Biomechs. It can also carry one Biodread, cargo, and possibly a Armored Destroyer.

Resistance Equipment
"Captain Power: There are people out there fighting with nothing but their bare hands."

Notes: Human resistance fighters are poorly equipped when compared to BioDread forces. They are restricted to older conventional equipment found in the rulebook. These antiquated equipment are usually military leftovers from the MetalWars. Although a few resistance groups have been known to manufacture their own equipment and weapons. It's far more likely that human resistance fighters steal what they need from the Biodread empire.

Lucky ones like resistance leaders Captain Power and Cipher have access to a military cache left over from the Metal wars. The following equipment is exclusive to Captain Power's team.

Image

Crysblade: Strength based Damage 2 (Flat: Improved Critical, Penetrating 2) (5)

Notes: A crysblade is a dagger that is seemingly made from a unknown crystal material. It is energized to deal further damage. It is well balanced so it can be thrown. This is the favorite weapon of Scout.

Image

Scanner: Senses 5 (Accurate, Acute, Analytical, Ranged Detect Energy 2) (5)

Notes: A scanner is a small handheld device used to read energy readings. It allows someone to detect electromagnetic fluctuations, radiation, and other energy readings. It is has the ability to detect nearby humans, Biomechs, and Biodreads through their electrical fields. Scout can be seen the most using this equipment.

Image

Starbit: Ranged Damage 2 (Flat: Burst 2, Multiattack 1) (7)

Notes: A starbit is a shuriken like weapon made from the same material used for Crysblades. A small amount of explosives can be added on to enhance its damage. This weapon is used by Captain power to disable armed opponents.

I beleive there is a scene that shows up in the intro of the later episodes. It shows Tank smashing through a brick wall then standing there, looking all menacing.

For that scene, the set-building crew thought it would be funny if they actually mortared the bricks, so it would be a solid wall; not a breakable wall as is ususally used in these scenes. Sven would bounce off the wall and everyone would get a laugh. Ha ha ha!

That's not what happened.

No... Sven smashed through the wall! Then he looked all menacing.

The set crew ran for their lives!

When asked about the event, Sven said something akin to (remeber to read it in an accent): "After smashing through the wall, I didn't know what to do. I was completely stunned. All I could do was stand there."
