Howdy, Atomic Think Tank. I'm GAZ, the new guy. Long time reader, first time poster. I've seen lots of good builds in the books and on the threads here. I thought I'd put my own out and see what you all think.

To me, the legacy of an iconic character isn't "just" x-ty decades of print comics. It's also the cool things they did in an animated series, a fun video game, or a big budget live-action feature film. That really informs my builds. So does the fact that I will tweak point costs to get multiples of five or PC level if its close. It just seems neater that way. Anything in particular to a character I'll put in the actual post. I love reading others' thought processes on why they say something should be the way it is, so all of my characters should have that too.

The Fantastic Four

The First Family of the Fantastic never numbered among my favorite comic characters as a kid. Growing older I gained a lot more respect for their place in comics. They led the way for Marvel and I think they'll make good starting characters for my thread.

Each member of the Fantastic Four is power level 12 and 180 points. Perfectly PC ready, except for Reed. Often people think that Mr. Fantastic is the lowest level member of the team. Indeed, my build of him does not hit the power level caps for offense or defense. He's still PL 14. He's power level 14 because somebody needs to have a +24 in science and technology and in the Marvel Universe, that guy is Dr. Reed Richards. Still only 180 points though.

Everybody has expertise in "Imaginaut." This represents how knowledgeable the team is in dealing with things like Marauding Mole Man Monsters, Doom Bots, Atlantian glyphs, Inhuman politics, Negative Zone energies, and all sorts of cosmic what have you. Every member of the team counts each other member on the team in their relationship complications. This means that if somebody is in real trouble, every other member of the gets a hero point to try and help him or her. Family first.

Illuminatus: Reed is part of a secret cabal dedicated towards saving the world from big scary problems and securing the Infinity Gems.
Obsession: Reed is straight up obsessed with science. To the point of neglecting himself or his loved ones, sometimes.
Relationship: His wife Sue and their children, Franklin and Valeria, along with his best friend Ben and brother-in-law Johnnie.

Okay. Mr. Fantastic is PL 11 on D and with his grab attacks. In spite of his ability harmless face light gun fire and sock somebody half a mile away, around the corner and then wrap them up with the same move, he's the weak end of the Four in combat. He compensates by being the smartest guy in the history of ever. He can study or make things at DC 34 whenever the need arises. With some effort and a hero point that number is 44. He can inspire the team with inspired genius in planning or his rare heartfelt family moments.

Fame: Sue is a rich and beautiful busty blond super hero with public identity and a world renowned husband. Of course she is ridiculously famous.
Force Field Feedback: If something really smashes up her force fields or other creations, it can whiplash and hurt Sue.
Relationship: She really really loves her husband and their children. Especially the kids. Her brother Johnnie, friend Ben, and royal admirer Namor also have places in her heart. But seriously, you do not want to mess with her kids.

The Invisible Woman has come a long way from hiding better than anybody or failing to do so because nobody noticed her new hair cut. Now she can go float about completely invisible independent of her giant dynamic array. Aforementioned array lets her hit PL 12 in couple of ways: on defense with a force field OR on offense with invisible choke holds, invisible battering rams, invisible autofire, and crushing invisible weights. All of these are ranked higher than the powers of any other FFer. Sue can make her whole team invisible or make them feel better. She is equally comfortable being interviewed on her experiences as a mother with powers and tracking down ancient machines on the surface of other worlds.
Lady once knocked out the Hulk.

Fire Puns: Johnny is hot-headed and his anger and his passion are both easily ignited and prone to flaring up. When in action, he will often turn the heat up at the cost of burning himself out.
Motivation: Thrills. Johnny Storm is reckless and impulsive young man who loves doing cool stuff and impressing hot chicks.
Relationship: He loves his sister Sue, her husband Reed, and their kids. The Thing is his vitriolic best bud.
Reputation. Johnny Storm is publicly known as reckless and impulsive young man with fire powers.


The Torch has a awesome look and kickin' power set. While not stupid, he isn't the quickest on the uptake or the most delicate individual. That's okay. His point were spent on giving him a alternate form with super fast flight and an aura that can melt attacks and burn attackers. While flame on-ed he can fly past and spray you with fire as hot as the Thing is strong or do it you and whomever happens to be within 30 ft of you. He can also manipulate existing fires and make nifty things out of fire. All of this while surrounded with an aura of heat strong enough to melt bullets.The Human Torch is PL 12 shooting and dodging.

This man, this monster! Ben is not really of fan of the aforementioned rock monster thing. He longs to be a man again.

The ever lovin' blue eyed Thing is a pilot and puglist of some skill. He's PL 12 in a fist fight and can shift his caps around any which way. This proficiency in super strength extends to area affects capable of a couple of different things. While he knowns a thing or two about a thing or two in the wide universe he never forgot the streets. Yancy Street and the street gangs of New York filled the formative years of sweet Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew. Ben Grimm will never ever give up.

Really, what is the FF without their number one villain : the diabolical Dr. Doom? He's a bigger name than they are at this point. He's just a the tiniest fraction less smart than Reed, but he would never admit it. He is way more intense though: PL 14 with science blasters, force fields, and tech knowledge, yet equally as adept with wicked wizardy. Doom has soldiers and Doombots out the wazoo and his own country to run outside of the scope of this character sheet. Doom is scary. But also a vainglorious mama's boy.

The Avengers are of course the big name team of the Marvel Universe. Nobody on the team is lower than PL 9. These guys are professional super heroes. New Avengers and Earth's Mightiest Heroes are my main sources of Avengers lore and I love them both.

Relationship: Steve has romantic entanglements with Sharon Carter and Diamondback, The Falcon is his partner, and Tony Stark is his Avengers buddy/rival.
Responsibility: Steve is always leading soldiers to war or Avengers to assembling or SHIELD to peacekeeping or something making huge demands on him.

Captain America wasn't one of the founding Avengers, but he is the most iconic. In my mind at least. Steve Rogers started off as a little wimp who just wanted to help fight for what was right. So he was given an experimental treatment to unlock humanity's potential and sent off to kick the bad guys ass. Cap starts off as a pretty normal though highly trained guy. He's as good at soldiering as any normal person can be at anything and an amazing leader to boot. This is what makes him PL 12. You hand him his special vibranium/adamantium alloy shield and the man hits PL 13. His indomitable will also hit those caps. He inspires and leads so many people with such honor and grace that he gets a benefit just for being himself.

Reputation: Sam sometimes finds it hard to live down his time as Snap Wilson.

The Falcon is an early black superhero. He came out in the 60s and wasn't named Blackbird or The Black Falcon! He's a capable guy: PL 9 with dodging and with his melee attacks. These stats get bumped up a level when he takes to the air. He can see through the eyes of birds in the area and then either converse with or control them. His trained kestrel, Redwing goes everywhere with him and is PL 5. Both of them come with decent feint scores and set-up to team up on villains with each other or Cap. Falcon's ultimate version was really cool and necessary for stopping Ultimate Galactus.

Really liking your build for Susan Richards, it goes capture what she is like from the comics and cartoon style. Did not think much of the movie version, but thats my personal opinion.

Reputation: Hey! You know who really dropped the ball with both the SRA and the Skrull Invasion? Iron Man, that's who.

Tony Stark is a complicated guy. He's a dedicated humanist and futurist who used to build weapons for a living. He wants to take responsibility for the things he's made, but not before he's had a drink and gotten laid. He's a really smart guy who can run a multinational corporation or a peace keeping organization. He's also kinda flakey and dickish, so you can't trust him to run it well. The big brain means he also hits his PL 13 caps with his tech smarts. His Iron Man armor also lets him get up to caps on offense or defense. But this only works with his proprietary repulsor technology like his repulsor rays, uni-beam, and repulsor force field. Otherwise he's PL 12 unarmed, in the suit. The suit also provides a whole bunch of utility effects like super sonic flight, long range communications, more sensors than you can count, and a few alternate weapon modes that can go beyond simply blasting. Yes, this build borrows a lot from the Iron Man movies, but those were really cool.

Thor is the big gun of the Avengers. PL 15 when he holds his mighty Mjolnir war hammer with melee and ranged attacks and melee defense. He's got some weakish weather powers on account of being the god of thunder, but Mjolnir boosts them up to respectable levels. He commands the loyalty of a nation of immortal warrior gods and knows a decent amount about military campaigns and mysticism. He can switch all his caps around and stunt pretty much anything he wants from his hammer swing. You probably don't want to mess with him.

Complications
Disability: Clint is almost completely deaf (to make up for his super eyes?) and needs a hearing aid.
Relationship: Clint Barton fell in love with Bobbie Morse and married her. Then she died. Then he died. Then he came back. Then she came back, but not from death 'cause she was really captured by the Skrulls. Now they're not married. But it definitely counts as a relationship.
Reputation: Hey, you guys. Didn't Hawkeye use to be a criminal and partner of foreign spies?

Hawkeye stats up a lot like the official Green Arrow build. Except that he's stronger and tougher. And since bows really do depend on pull strength to some extent, he does DC 21 instead of 20. This also boosts the available points in his bow array (Device. Way too important to be just equipment). Hawkeye is PL 10.5 shooting you with his piercing arrows and dodging. His alternate arrow effects all ricochet and include bombs, smoke bombs, nets, and a variable tech arrow with a secondary effect to represent acid, electrical shocks, freezing gases, catching fire and what have you. His hail of arrows attack is Hawkeye shooting a ton of arrows up and letting them all crash down on top of you. It beats obstacles and multiattacks, but doesn't get his full strength. Clint cost the PC standard 165 point to be a capable acrobat and ninja thief type. He's PL 9 with his sword if you want him to be Ronin. He's mouthy and his motorcycle fllies, Clint Barton is the world's greatest archer and he rocks.
