Some guns (super-shortened shotguns, Neostead-type shotguns, old-school Mausers with removable stock, M79 grenade launcher, etc.) have been added to the aforelinked article while we continue doodling up the layout.

I'm currently fighting to finish a Spitfire (Jacqueline Crichton) writeup for M&M... Superspeed is hard ! :lol:

I hit "Random" another time and stumbled upon one of the Spitfire writeups, which requires a... bit more work on powers than most entries I've been training with so far.

Most of my ideas ended up being close-ish to how the Flash is written up, and I've added a few things based on Barry's official stats after I finished jotting down my approach. But I'll readily admit that I didn't expect Jackie to be that complicated to write up. I learned stuff. :-)

As noted in the title of the writeup, this corresponds to the era that goes from her rejuvenation by the Human Torch's blood to the Captain Britain and MI-13 story where she reveals that she's a you-know-what

Another Random button -> profile. Agent Taylor is mostly on writeups.org for games that need a sympathetic SHIELD agent as a liaison or other similar role. Her schtick is that she's a wide-eyed rookie who lacks experience but has very good Abilities for an agent type (particularly Agility and Dexterity).

And yes, almost everybody ends up with Defensive Roll 2 using the OMACS system. As quirks go, I think this one falls in the "OK" zone. :)

Let's hit the random button and bump into Javitz. Our Acolytes of Magneto arc hasn't moved in a while - there's just too much stuff that has a higher priority - but they are very convenient no-name villains for Marvel campaigns with villains. Especially dudes with simple abilities and a medium power level like Javitz.

Like with Big Ben Donovan I didn't use the Growth in the rulesbook - it just brings nothing to the table since the ratios in the official Growth do not match the characters. And given how incoherent growth-type powers are in the comics, I don't think it can match too many existing characters.

Which is not a big issue, mind you, since DCA is an effects-based system so I can just do a nice little package that describes Javitz's size and tie it with a pretty pink bow. I'd prefer to add a little something for him to weight more (as I would have for Warhawk), but there ain't nothing in the rulesbook for that, I think and I'm trying to be RAW-ish here.

Having Permanent Enhanced Traits is not a terribly attractive option, but for a D-list guy (at best) I'll ignore that since it makes the stats cleaner and I'm definitely not in the business of stats optimisation.

Man, I love these Jobber Villains. These are some guys that even *I* haven't heard of, and I both a) read Mark Gruenwald's stuff, and b) LOVE Jobbers! Big Ben! Stiletto! DISCUS! That is HILARIOUS.

Also, the Gun stuff is great- I always just throw Blast 4-6 on some things (with Inaccurate on any Automatic-firing weapon, as in real life, those tend to just be for strafing or covering fire), so seeing the little increments between weapons is good stuff. I didn't realize that Shotguns had some poor range, for instance- if I ever build a guy with one (don't think I have before...), I'll remember that. A tremendous service to other gamers.

I had a similar reaction with Growth for characters who actually get bigger- guys who are permanently big are fine, since you can just modify their base stats at-will, but people like Hank Pym and Atlas would get WAY too strong using the current rules (which would give many of them Growth 20, and put them beyond Superman for melee damage), necessitating some changes.

There's now a cool Agent X entry on writeups.org, which sadly confirms I can't make good M&M stats for a character I haven't personally researched. The exact combat advantages, the exact contact-type feats (connected, well-informed, etc.), the exact social and perception skills cannot be 100% derived from DCH stats. So an adaptation would only be 90% there, which is not terribly interesting. Oh, well.

Anyway.

The texts for Sally Sonic have been rewritten yesterday - since Seven Soldiers was such a fantastic series and the writeups about it should be engaging and interesting. So I might as well throw in some M&M stats while I'm at it.

Marvel writers who loved the 1970s (such as Van Lente or Bendis) have been bringing those guys back in bit roles, which is pretty cool.

Shotguns are generally portrayed as super-weapons that send people flying, but are *usually* depicted as close-quarter weaponry.

There are a some exceptions with people who magically use shotguns as quasi-sniping weapons (which is what 6 ranks of Damage bring, range-wise), though. The first time we encountered this was when writing up Shaft. Shaft is just too much man for the laws of ballistics, and we can dig it.

That's true in any game system, I think. The size of giant characters changes from panel to panel, and the extra strength and durability growing brings just varies dramatically from one guy to the next or even for the same guy from one story to the next. Nobody is ever gonna be happy with a packaged Growth power in such conditions. 8)

Another barbarian hero, since this year is seeing a fair bit of comic book sword-and-sorcery material being covered on writeups.org.

Is there a consensus about whether large, definitely two-handed melee weapons should have Damage 4 or 3 ? All the weapons in the rulesbook with Damage 3 are described as being useable with one hand, but on the other hand Damage 4 + Strength 4 + Power Attack produces rather superhuman results...
