Mr. Pound is from the Mega-LD (LaserDisc) game I Will: The Story of London. In the game, he gives you the more useful clues needed to solve the mystery.

In my setting, he's the top fixer on the British mainland. You want it, he'll fix it so you get it! For a price of course. He buys from or sells to anyone as long as the goods in question aren't fake or clearly stolen (don't expect him to buy stuff like a nuclear device, the Crown Jewels or any Starktech, but he'll gladly buy a load of guns you looted off a street gang with a smile on his face).

A persistent rumour has him having learnt some of his trade from the legendary Modesty Blaise. The rumour persists because, just like Blaise, he calls his group the Network, and he won't deal with drugs, human trafficking or prostitution. He's still willing to smuggle someone into or out of the country if they're willing to pay. That's among his most expensive services, but it comes with a valid passport for the country you're going to and you don't have to worry about spending the rest of your life in a sweatshop when you arrive.

His shop, Cowl & Cloak, is also the only shop in Cardiff, Edinburgh and London that sells Morphic Molecule Suits. Two qualities that make him well and truly valuable are that he stays bought (Unless you tried to sell something that's clearly stolen to him, in which case, you're getting handed over to the police. Even he doesn't want that kind of heat.), and that too many people need his services for anyone in their right mind to harm his agents. You can always tell an Antenna agent by the fact that they always carry two umbrellas in one hand.

His greatest achievement is the Antenna Network app. A pre-paid virtual grey/black market, where you can get goods and services that no-one else can sell on-line. Need to buy a gun, spend a week in a safehouse or leave Britain in a hurry? You can arrange it on there.

His stats are assuming that you're going to put him into a superhero campaign. To put his stats closer to the original game, remove Off Limits, Minion and Expertise: Streetwise.

Use a Criminal with Expertise: Bodyguarding for Antenna's Minion.

London's Burning: Final Chapter

Firefox is on the floor, on his back. He's putting his arm up, saying "Okay, I give up! Don't kill me, man!"

"Are you surrendering?"

"Yeah!"

"Can you move by yourself?"

"Barely, yeah."

"Good. I'd hate to think I mortally wounded you by accident. I'll help you get to Celia. The sheep you nearly hit with that flamethrower."

"To apologise, I guess."

"Yeah. Come on, it's only 25 feet."

After Firefox was picked up and dragged to Celia, she asked Simon "Why have you brought that fox to me?"

"I thought that he ought to apologise for nearly burning you."

Celia then says "Firefox, do you have anything to say for yourself?"

Firefox could only say "I'm really sorry, ma'am. I wasn't thinking straight."

Simon said "If you want her to know you mean it, you'll look her in the eye and say it." Then he mouthed at Celia "Trust me."

Celia replied "No need for that, I know he means it. Here."

A flash of light came from Celia's direction. When it faded, Firefox was in his street clothes, his rib wasn't broken and he was handcuffed behind his back. Simon was also completely healed, and he saw that Firefox's human form certainly looked 'foxy'. He checked the hold-all, and found that the handcuffs were gone, but the Firefox Suit was inside. He was thinking "Bloody hell!" while padlocking it.

Simon then said "I need to call someone," and calls the number from Catherine's text.

A male voice responds "Hello?"

"Catherine gave me this number. I have Firefox outside of Jamie's Bar, Fleet Place. He'll come peacefully."

"We'll be there soon." Then he hanged up.

After hanging up, Simon said "That was the Group who sent me to fight you, they'll be here soon."

Firefox reluctantly went "Damn it. Before you hand me over, I have just one question."

"Go on."

"If I didn't surrender, would you have really tried to kill me?"

"To be honest... No. I was under orders from my boss to take you alive, and my client was paying extra if I took you alive. Neither of them specified that you had to be in any shape to talk, though. And you're lucky that my boss decided to heal you, as you nearly hurt her. If you somehow managed that, I wouldn't have bothered giving you a chance."

Another man came over, saying "Hi, I'm Steven. Catherine sent me."

Steven has the same stats as the Government Agent Archetype, but replace Expertise: Behavioural Studies with Expertise: Popular Culture, Expertise: Civics with Expertise: Domain Culture and Expertise: Government Agent with the same ranks in Treatment.

Simon told him "That red-headed idiot over there in the cuffs is Firefox, and the sheep over there is my boss, Celia."

Celia raised her glass.

Steven whispered "Does she know about the portal?"

Simon whispered back "She does, but not off me. Knowing her, I wouldn't be surprised if she was there when it first appeared." He then tossed the holdall over, saying "Here. I've got the keys, and the Firefox Suit is inside."

"Okay then."

Simon waved "I'll see you later, Celia!"

Celia waved back "You can bet on that!"

In the van back to the Group's London Safehouse...

Firefox is lying on a mattress as well as Simon, they're both in the back. Steven's driving. They're about five minutes away from the safehouse.

Simon mused "I'm curious, Firefox."

"About what?"

"About why you'd want to flee to a parallel universe. It must be something really bad to make you want to run this far."

"It's stupid now, but I fled because of the portal. I thought that I'd be safe somewhere where I never really existed."

"You're right, you are an idiot. if you kept your mouth shut and never admitted to knowing about the portal, you wouldn't have your life at risk like this."

"I'd be in danger anyway."

"How's that?"

"I used to work for this company called Herd Thinners. We would be hired to cull herds that got too big, and I was one of the best. I can name ten herbivores back home who'd pay good money to see me dead, and another fifty who would gladly chip in. When I discovered the portal to this world, I took my chances."

"And you never suspected that someone else was keeping an eye on it. After all, who knows what could be on the other side."

"True. I have a question."

"Go on."

"What did you mean when you said that killing me would balance things out?"

"We'll be at my client's soon. She can explain it much better than I can. All I can say for now, is that if she's telling the truth, sending you back or killing you would do both our worlds a huge favour."

"I see. You're very calm, for a man who's talking to someone from a parallel universe."

"I'm autistic, a libertarian, and I spend lots of time on the internet, and I got my powers less than a month ago while I was going through a near-death experience. I have no reason to see 'normal' as anything concrete, as anything absolute."

"This world is getting weirder by the day."

"It always has been. You're only just starting to notice. You should have noticed that when you heard about the portal."

Steven banged on the ceiling and said "We're here. Help Firefox get up, and I'll take you to Catherine."

"You heard the man, Firefox." Simon helps Firefox get up and gets him inside.

A minute later, in the Living Room...

Simon said "As you can see, I've brought you one Firefox, alive and disarmed. Steven has the hold-all with the Firefox Suit."

Firefox went "And you're the one who wants me dead."

Catherine said "What I want is the portal balanced. If that means having to kill you, so be it, but I'd prefer not to. Simon, my men saw that fight you had at the bar. How are you going to deal with the witnesses?"

Simon told her "All they saw and heard was that someone said something and a fight kicked off. I made certain that he wasn't actually talking to anyone when I mentioned the portal."

"And that sheep you dragged Firefox in front of?"

"She was the one who gave me my powers, including the sword I beat Firefox with. She already knows about the portal, but not off me. I can trust her to keep the portal secret with my life."

"I understand."

Catherine snapped her fingers twice. Steven came over with two briefcases.

"That's the fifty thousand I owe you for your service. And with the briefcase I gave you before, that's seventy five thousand pounds sterling."

Simon has an idea to see if he's being done over.

"I'll check the money now, if you don't mind."

"By all means."

At a glance, the notes look used and non-sequential. A quick check, and Simon sees that the money in both cases is genuine.

Simon then kissed Catherine's hand.

"Thank you, Catherine. I'll definitely put this to good use." He then hands the keys to the hold-all over, saying "That'll open the padlock to the Suit. You know how to reach me if you need my services again. I'll see you later."

He walks out of the front door, reveals his wings and flies out.

Griffin gets 2 PP. One for beating Firefox and the other for going non-lethal on someone who was trying to kill him. He puts them both into his Dodge, which is now 8.

I was just working on a 3E conversion of Orion myself-to test against Nightwing or Batman. I think there are a few problems with your build though-why is he PL 12? Why no Perception for the world's greatest hunter? As written, his close attack should +13, not +14. and any reason why you dropped
His Ranged attack so much from 2E?

To the last two posts:

@ MorningKnight: Thank you. :D

@ Arthur Eld: Thanks for spotting the Perception cock-up, I need to get some more ranks in it. :) But seriously, I always try to keep the stats for conversions as close to the original as I can, and I didn't notice the Notice/Perception instructions.

I call this story... Capital Carnage.

Location: East End, London.

There's a man and a woman in a pub, and they're sharing a table in a private room. Let's listen in on their conversation...

The woman finishes her wine and tells the man "I want a certain cape who's been hassling me... dealt with."

"It'll cost you though."

"The fee will be one million pounds sterling. Half now, and the other half when I'm satisfied that he's dead and gone."

"Show me."

The woman produces a briefcase containing £500,000 and said "And please, call me Ms. Morgenstern."

"Who do you want me to kill the shit out of, Ms. Morgenstern?"

"Everything you need to know is in this envelope."

He opens the envelope, and whistles.

"You want me to kill him?! I heard a rumour that he killed a Predator!"

"I know he did for a fact. He'll be at Trafalgar Square tomorrow, I'll make certain of it."

"Okay then. You have thirty days after his death's been confirmed to deliver the other half-million. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that the penalty for non-payment is... extreme?"

"Oh, spare me. I'm not a beginner at this. Kill him tomorrow, and you'll get your money."

The woman heads to her car. When she gets in, the face in the rear-view mirror is not her own. It belongs to someone who she has had a grudge with for far longer than men have lived.

The reflection tells her "You do realise this scheme is going to fall through, just like all the other ones you tried to stop me with."

"Well Mother, it looks like your retarded little champion is going to become a bloody mess tomorrow afternoon."

"I doubt it, Lucy. I really doubt it. I think that Andrew will end up dead in Trafalgar Square at Simon's hands. And I noticed that you didn't tell him the real consequences of failing you."

"Oh, come on! You know he's already mine anyway!"

"Not until he dies, you know that. And time might just run out on him tomorrow."

"We'll see."

Next: Griffin vs. Akimbo Assassin

Capital Carnage Part Two

Simon was in Central London to get some American fizzy drinks. The sort that aren't sold in British supermarkets any more. That's what he likes about living near a railway station that goes to Charing Cross. It makes him about 45 minutes away from specialists in almost anything. After he gets his drinks, an unknown number rings his mobile.

"Hello?"

"Hi, is this the Griffin?"

"Speaking."

"I have an anonymous tip if you want it. You're getting this first because I think you actually have a chance."

"Go on."

"I've sighted the Akimbo Assassin near Trafalgar Square."

"Is he still there?"

"Yeah. You don't have much time before he leaves."

"Got it. Bye."

Location: Trafalgar Square, London.

Simon's thinking "Now, where's that bloody psycho?"

Andrew aims and fires at Simon. He thinks to himself "Killing this spastic's going to be easy."

Simon sees the shots miss him and hit Nelson's Column, and he hears the crowd screaming as they're running. He turns around while revealing his sword and sees a man with two still-smoking bayonetted pistols pointed at him from the stairs to the National Gallery walking towards him. Simon carefully puts the bag with his drinks on the side of the fountain nearest to him.

Griffin rolls Well-Informed and gets 23. He recognises AA, and they both know what's going to happen next!

Andrew says "I can kill you from here, Simon."

"The way I see it, you couldn't hit water if you shot the Thames."

"Prepare to die!"

AA tries to intimidate Griffin. He gets 20, but Griffin is Fearless. Griffin responds by Taunting AA and gets 23. AA gets 13 and is Shaken. Roll Initative! Griffin gets 14, AA gets 12. Griffin gets 3 HP for being there, his Motivation (He wants AA to pay for the murders he's done and he has absolutely no intention of letting AA live), and for civilians on the field. AA gets 3 HP for being there, his Reputation and for being Wanted. They're both using lethal force. What AA doesn't know is that his Favoured Foe (Metahumans) advantage doesn't work on Griffin, because he isn't really metahuman.

They charge right into each other, leaving some nasty wounds.

Simon Charges at AA in a full All-out Power Attack and rolls 4, spends a HP to reroll and gets 13. AA rolls 13 and is hit and Staggered! AA also Charges, he slashes with his bayonets and gets a Natural 20, critical scored! He increases the DC to 26. Griffin rolls 22 and is hit.

Griffin: 2 HP, 1 Injured.

AA: 3 HP, 1 Injured, Staggered.

Simon slashes Andrew, leaving a horrific wound in his chest. Andrew stabs Simon in the arm.

Griffin attacks and rolls 20. AA rolls 17 and is hit. AA gets 26 with the bayonets, Simon rolls 19 and is hit.

Griffin: 2 HP, 2 Injured.

AA: 3 HP, 2 Injured, Staggered.

Simon completely mistimes his swing, and Andrew sees the opportunity to open fire, nailing Simon in the shoulder.

Griffin attacks and rolls a natural 1! AA fires his pistols, and gets 26. Griffin gets 22 and is hit.

Griffin: 2 HP, 3 Injured.

AA: 3 HP, 2 Injured, Staggered.

Simon turns around, and roars "This ends now!" and swings with all his might, beheading Andrew!

Griffin does a full All-out Power Attack, and gets 28, Crit scored! He ups the DC by 5, making it 33! AA rolls 12 and is killed! Fight's over!

Simon lifts Andrew's head up high, and shouts "Behold! The head of a murderer!" He then dismisses Justice, takes a photo of the head with his phone, grabs his drinks and runs off.

He realises that he has a problem. He has two bullets in him, and he can't go to a hospital to get them out as they have to tell the police if anyone comes in with a gunshot wound. And the Ministry of Powers will brick it when they realise who and what he is and what he did. He hears a faint voice in his head that's not his own thoughts.

Griffin gets 1 HP for the Complication of having bullet wounds that he can't get conventional help for. He spends the HP to get a hint on what to do next...

"Train out of London... Head for the toilet..."

That was certainly Celia talking. Simon knew that he had to get back to Charing Cross. If the train back home leaves before the police can reach it, he'll be safe long enough to figure something out.

End of Part Two

I'm a bit confused as to why the Akimbo Assassin didn't use Improve Roll to up his Toughness save. Kind of a waste given you can't use Hero Points when you're dead.

Apologies for the forum necromancy.

@fuzzyboots: I didn't completely read the rules at the time I did the Griffin vs. AA fight. Don't worry, AA will be back!

To celebrate the release of Saints Row: The Third, I thought I'd bring out the Boss.

If you're wondering about why he has a Blaster Rifle, he goes up against an anti-gang unit called STAG who use the rifle in SR:TT. It's pretty easy to imagine that the Boss likely looted it off a STAG Soldier's corpse.

Captain Blood is from Book of Magic. He's been cursed to know no rest in death, and he seeks a way to break the curse. As a pirate, he's quite willing to rob and plunder anyone and anything that looks like it could help.

As a villain, he should have as many Skeleton Pirates on the field as needed to give the heroes a hard time.

Capital Carnage: Conclusion

Simon's dashing for the train out of Charing Cross with two bullets in him. He's hoping that the platform gates are still open when he gets there.

Griffin spends a HP to edit the scene so that the platform gates would be open. His ticket's still valid, but he doesn't want to it to be accidentially rejected which tends to happen. And with his wounds, the more time he has before things get ugly, the better.

Luckily, the next train home was one of the older suburban trains which still have toilets. He dashed into the first toilet and locked the door. When he did, Celia appeared in the smoked-glass window.

"I see you got that message, Simon."

"If this is about the Akimbo Assassin, that was completely out of self-defence!"

"I know that Andrew attacked you first. And it wasn't completely self-defence, though, was it? You forget, I see everything, even what's inside your heart. We both know full well you had no intention of allowing him to leave Trafalgar Square alive."

"Well, you know more about how many people he killed than I do. How many other people saw Andrew go first? Other than you, I mean."

"Five people managed to see him go first and film the fight. There was CCTV on the Square itself, and two web-cams."

"I can certainly say I had this coming. I started throwing my weight around, and someone threw it right back." Simon sighed. "I don't get it, Celia. I just don't get it. I once renounced you on my mother's grave - and I actually went to her grave and swore it - and you responded by either forgiving me or giving me a fate worse than death."

"How could my gift be worse than death?"

"Because now I have to spend the rest of my life knowing that I was wrong about you. And my resurrection at your hands leaves me permamently indebted to you."

"I see. You stirred up a hornet's nest by killing Andrew, you know."

"Oh yeah?"

"Do you know how many people he killed?"

"I heard that the official count was 20 to 30, but Andrew's the sort where you know that's just the ones they can prove."

"You would have been his hundredth victim. And most of them were metahuman or law enforcement. Not the easiest targets to kill."

"It looks like I did a lot of people a favour then. And 'The man who beat the Akimbo Assassin' has a bit of a ring to it."

Celia placed two lead slugs on the sink and said "My advice to you would be to leave Britain as soon as you can make arrangements."

"I'm afraid you're right there. And there's an app for that."

Simon started flicking through the apps on his phone, until he finds the one he's after. The app was called 'Antenna Network - Client' and the icon was of a hand carrying two umbrellas. What a client did was that they got an account by being specifically invited by an agent of the Antenna Network. Then they topped-up their account in pretty much the same way they topped up a mobile phone, except in much larger amounts. Simon liked the idea of a pre-paid grey/black market and joined up when he was invited shortly after the fight with Firefox.

Celia then said "Do you know who gave you Andrew's whereabouts?

"No. She just told me where he was."

"It was Lucifer. She was the one who called the hit on you to Andrew."

"I should have known. I haven't given my mobile number to any of the local teams or the Ministry."

Simon then phoned home... His brother Tom picked it up.

"Hello?"

"It's Simon. I need you to do me a very big favour."

"How important is it?"

"My life and freedom quite literally depend on this! Do it and I'll give you that briefcase in the loft. With your new baby, you need the money inside more than I do!"

"How much is in there?"

"20 K. Cash. I need you to pack the hold-all for me. All the stuff on the clothes-horse is mine, and should be dry by now, so there's no room for confusion. I gotta go now."

"Done!"

Griffin Manor, one hour later...

Simon banged on the door. When Tom opened it, Simon just burst right in.

"Slow down, Simon!" Tom shouted.

"You got the hold-all!?"

Tom said "I got it. Who- Who hit you?!"

"I got into a fight with the Akimbo Assassin. Which I won, by the way. Killed him at Trafalgar Square. All the news channels are on about it."

"You killed him?!"

"It was self-defence! Not that the police will buy it, hence my need for you to pack the hold-all for me. I've made arrangements to leave town before the Ministry finds me. I'm taking a risk coming here."

"Why bother with the risk?"

"Two reasons. I need my stuff, and it wouldn't feel right if I left without telling someone. On my way out, I'll send you a message mentioning a phone number. The last six digits will get the case open."

"Then I have just one thing to ask."

"Go on."

"About how you got the money?"

"Yeah?"

"Please tell me you didn't do anything dodgy."

"I didn't. All I can say without breaking my word is that I didn't break any laws I knew of when I did what I did."

A few hours later...

Simon was in a cyber-cafe, with the webcam pointing away from him to be safe. He was researching New York on Wikitravel, ahead of his trip. He heard the phone vibrate...

Code: Select all

You have a message from Mr. Pound. Please contact him via the usual method ASAP.

That meant that the details were finalised for his trip out of Britain. He loaded the Antenna Network app up again...

Code: Select all

Please enter username and password.

Simon entered it again.

Code: Select all

The phone displayed "Credentials accepted. Security Protocols are now Active. New Message!"

Message reads: "Departure point: London Waterloo, approximately two hours from now, under the clock. A representative will hand you a briefcase with your new I.D., all necessary tickets and your currency. The combination is 523-349."

Simon realised that he had to take a cab there, due to every bit of public transport in Greater London having CCTV. Luckily, there was a taxi rank right next door. After he sent a message to his brother...

Code: Select all

Tom, I got that number you wanted. It's 07XXX 360450. I won't use this SIM again, I'll call you when I get where I'm going.

After he confirmed that it got sent, Simon took the SIM Card out of the phone and binned it. He would have to get another one in the States. He booked the minicab and got underway...

London Waterloo concourse, two hours later...

Beneath the clock in the middle of the station, Simon found a man carrying two umbrellas in his arm, and a briefcase in the other. That meant he was a representative of the Antenna Network. He said to the man "I believe you have something for me from Mr. Pound."

"Were you followed?"

"No. Not that I can tell."

"Then I think you dropped this."

The representative then handed the case over and Simon thanked him for it. Next stop: New York via Southampton!

In Hell...

Lucifer is on her throne, talking to Celia.

"Well, Lucy. It seems that your plan backfired. Andrew's dead, and Simon's on his way to freedom!"

"He's on the run and I have a new servant. I call that a perfectly agreeable result myself, Mother."

Lucifer then turned the mirror off, and turned to see Andrew hanging from a pair of chains. "As for you... You have two choices. Either you can pay for all that innocent blood you spilled in life with your soul and eternal torment... or you can work for me."

Griffin gets 1 PP for defeating the Akimbo Assassin. He puts it into Fortitude, making it 6. He also gains the Wanted Complication for his actions. (The Ministry of Powers wants a word with him over what he did to AA.)
