Horsenhero wrote:If it were me, I would put Fairchild on Stormwatch. Stormwatch needs a science-hero type on their roster to go with all the borderline nutjobs, like Jack Hawksmoor and strict military types like Winter and Flint.

That's a really good question. I haven't decided. I was thinking of having her part of the Teen Titans West or the Justice Society Initiative but I could see her somewhere like the Justice League or Stormwatch, too. We'll see. I may pull Bulleteer for Hawk and Dove (not Hank Hall Hawk, he and Don are both deceased in my setting) in the Birds, but I wanted her somewhere before I forgot about her. I always thought she had potential but after the whole Seven Soldiers thing, she kinda disappeared.

I'm really thinking of mixing up Stormwatch, too. I'd have a few stand-bys, but I think someone like Beta Ray Bill is a natural fit for a global response team like that.

Abilities 54 + Skills 13 (26 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 41 + Defenses 14 = 128 / 128

Build Comments: The Squid has been one of my favorite Marvel jobbers for a while now. But every time I see him, all I can think about is this scene:

You guys made me ink!

Secret Origins: After his mother died, Don Callahan had a hard time relating to his father "Big Mike" Callahan. He eventually fell into the wrong crowd and ended up transformed into a mouthless squid-like creature.

The Story so Far: In his first outing as a supervillain, Squid and his girlfriend Ms. Fortune battled Spider-Man on a rooftop. Spider-Man defeated them. After their failure, the ones responsible for Squid's creation attacked him and Ms. Fortune (who barely survived). She broke up with Squid.

Squid was later hired by an unnamed Upper West Side crime boss to eliminate the local businessmen that won't sell their properties to him. Squid later dragged a cigar store owner named "Old Man" Frenzetti into the sewers and later killed him. He later confronted his father at a bar and then stormed out as Peter Parker entered. Squid later came up through the sink pipes of Miguel Vargas' coffee shop in an attempt to kill him. Miguel escaped as Mike Callahan attacked him with a baseball bat. Squid broke the bat, but was blindsided by Spider-Man. Both Spider-Man and Mike managed to calm Squid down with Mike apologizing to his son for the way he treated him. After a long talk in the night, Squid was presumably taken away by the police.

During the Civil War, Squid was among the villains recruited into Hammerhead's unnamed supervillain army to take advantage of the Civil War. Unfortunately, Iron Man and a number of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents raided their headquarters.

During the Secret Invasion event, Squid was one among many supervillains who joined the Hood's crime syndicate in attacking the invading Skrull force. Squid accompanied Hood when his Crime Syndicate attacked Mister Negative and his gang.

Characterization: He’s The Squid.

Friends and Foes: He has a rivalry with Spider-Man.

What? Don't look at me like that, it worked during the 80's.

Ah, the '80s Boobie Movie. Alas, a genre that isn't really successful anymore, largely thanks to the rise (hee hee... "rise") of internet pornography. I mean, why watch soft porn or a shower scene if you can watch Lisa Ann and four dudes... but I digress. Heck, it used to be a girl could become an instant overnight sensation JUST from a fanservicey scene, but nowadays that never happens- Denise Richards & Shannon Elizabeth are the last two I can think of, and there's a TON of girls in reasonably-big sex comedies that tried it and went nowhere in their careers. Compare that to all the '80s starlets who had way more success with it.

Though I can see why comic book movies don't include all the lady-fanservice (though there's a BIT- Scarlett Johannsen showed a good bit of sexiness), because A) they already HAVE the male audience with all the fist-fighting and explosions, and B) being overtly-fanservicey turns the female audience off and they won't show up. Whereas men care a whole lot less, so we don't care if a dude is shirtless. It creates cross-marketing or whatever they call it- it's like if a movie or show that appeals only to women started including naked chicks so that guys would watch- the only thing I can think of like that is Sex and the City, which has SOME male fans for that sort of thing, but not a whole bunch (cuz it's like ALL about trendy clubs and shoes and stuff, otherwise).

And oh yes- these are some gloriously-jobby Jobbers. The Squid is one of the more bizarre Spidey Rogues, in that he's ripping off ANOTHER SPIDER-MAN ROGUE. It's not even like all the Goblins out there, because the guy's not an homage or a legacy- he's just some OTHER guy based off of a cephalopod.

There are times I am very happy to be single. Specifically whenever the topic of Sex and the City is brought up. do I know of it? Yes. Haven't seen it, Never will.

Ah, Lisa Ann...I mean, um, Lisa Ann who?

You know what's funny is that even though I occasionally take a peek at some of those links I get spammed to my e-mail...

If by peek, you mean watch 2 hours a night.

Shut up, Randal. Anyway, I never knew who she was until she was part of a couple of fantasy football drafts on the Fantasy Sports channel on Sirius/XM. She was actually pretty successful, too, enough to get her own hour spot during football season. A lot of women in that industry fit the stereotype, but she's actually pretty sharp and seems to be in on the joke.

Anyway, back to the jobbers!

ADVANTAGES: All-Out Attack, Chokehold, Defensive Roll (2), Equipment (2), Improved Hold, Power Attack, Ranged Attack (3), Takedown (1)

POWERS:
NONE

EQUIPMENT:
(10 pts)
Twin Nunchakus: Bludgeoning Strength-Based Damage 2, Disarming, Impressive, Split; 5 pts
Big Ass Knife: Piercing Strength-Based Damage 1, Dangerous; 2 pts

OFFENSE:
Initiative +2
Close Attack +8 [Twin Nunchakus +6; Big Ass Knife +5, Critical 19-20]
Unarmed +10 [Unarmed +4]
Ranged Attack +5

DEFENSES:
Dodge +8 [DC18] Parry +8 [DC18]
Toughness +6 (+4 without Defensive Roll), Fortitude +8, Will +4

COMPLICATIONS:
Disability: Stallion has bad knees from football. A good shot to them can take him out quick and he often has soreness even without combat.
Enemy: Nightwing.
Motivation: Greed.

Abilities 44 + Skills 14 (28 ranks) + Advantages 12 + Powers 0 + Defenses 13 = 83 / 83

Build Comments: Stallion and Brutale provided some good humor in the old Nightwing series as the guys who just couldn’t ever get Nightwing and usually got pwned in the process. He died during the drop of Chemo on Bludhaven during the Infinite Crisis, but hey, you can never have enough elite thugs, so in the Thorpacoverse, he made it to Gotham and is still beating up people whenever he can get paid for it.

Secret Origins: Randy Hanrahan was once a promising football player for the Dallas Cowboys, but suffered severe injuries to both his knees during a pre-season game ending his career permanently. Following this, he gained employment through the Penguin, in the Iceberg Lounge as a bouncer, where he enjoyed being able to inflict violence and get paid for it.

The Story so Far: Eventually Penguin gave him a promotion of sorts, giving him the title of reposessor of defaulted loans, which he enjoyed for years. He eventually left, making himself an assassin for hire, during which he traveled until eventually going to Bludhaven where he came into the employ of Bludhaven crime lord, Blockbuster. He attempted several times to claim his employers open contract several times on the vigilante Nightwing, who had made Bludhaven his new home, but failed.

Following this, Blockbuster attempted to finish Nightwing by partnering Stallion with other assassins in his employ, frequently putting him with Brutale and Lady Vic. However despite the numbers they were still unable to complete the contract, forcing Blockbuster to bring in a new assassin Shrike into finish the job, following him easily defeating the three assassins.

After Blockbuster’s death, Stallion returned to Gotham and works for The Penguin off and on, but generally takes any contract work he can get.

Characterization: Stallion is a thug, pure and simple. He beats people up, enjoys doing and enjoys getting paid for it.

Friends and Foes: He still harbors a grudge against Nightwing. He remains friends with Brutale and to a lesser extent, Lady Vic, even though she still loathes his chauvinistic ways.

RE: The Squid. There's nothing wrong with another cephalopod-type guy. Heck, if we disallowed every character because they had a thematic connection to an earlier character, do you realize how cleanly the comic landscape would be scrubbed? Hell, the Invincible universe would practically be non-existent if you forbade any Supermanalogues on the basis of a shared theme. Just sayin'.

As for boob shots and whatever, Russ Meyer (Valley of the Dolls, Faster Pussycat. Kill. Kill., etc.) once called breasts the cheapest special effects a director could have, but that isn't the truth any longer. With some digital effects having descended almost to the level of stock footage, the increase in pay for a topless scene isn't as cost effective as it once was. Plus, comic fans...at least the pervy ones wouldn't want a boob shot of some random girl. They're going to want one of the major characters, which given how carefully these women have to manage their image probably is a price hit Disney and especially Marvel Studios (notorious for being tight with money), wouldn't want to pay. Plus, remember the backlash of the changing scene for Dr. Marcus in Star Trek: Into Darkness? Despite the success of the movie, I believe they might have been a little more successful still, had not they had the scene of Kirk playing peeping tom as Carol changed clothes. She didn't even actually get naked, but the gratuitous nature of the scene got a huge cry of "foul", because they were pandering to the hormones of their audience...kind of forgeting that science fiction movies have achieved the mainstream audience they wanted for so long and aren't just watched by guys who can't get a date anymore.

Ranged Attack +10 (+12 Underwater) [Laser Blast +10; Poison Dart Affliction +8]

DEFENSES:
Dodge +10 (+12 Underwater) [DC20/22] Parry +10 (+12 Underwater) [DC20/22]
Toughness +10 (+3 Impervious), Fortitude +10, Will +10

COMPLICATIONS:
Hatred: Aquaman.
Obsession: Black Manta is obsessed with destroying everything that Aquaman loves as well as taking the treasures of Atlantis for himself.

Abilities 66 + Skills 26 (52 ranks) + Advantages 21 + Powers 57 + Defenses 19 = 189 / 189

Build Comments: I used to hate Black Manta for a long time for him killing Aquababy. I still hate that part of his history, but overall as a villain, I have come to like him a lot. Especially in the New 52 where he and Aquaman both hate each other for their involvement in the deaths of each other’s fathers. That gives a real gravity to their rivalry.

I didn’t think the DCA Manta could hang with Aquaman on a regular basis so he gets a PL upgrade and some other Thorpacoverse tweaks.

Secret Origins: The man who would be known as Black Manta was a boy known as David who was autistic and became an inmate of Arkham Asylum because of his abnormal condition. Showing intense pain from laying on bedspreads and sheets, David would spend a painful and torturing past being strapped to his bed every night. This abnormal expression from David would take a much more concerning approach when David would be seen finding comfort within freezing cold waters. Growing up with a fascination of Aquaman, David would grow up going through numerous experimentations that eventually minimized the effects of his autism, but left him more violent and dangerous. With this mindset, David escaped and set out to do what he felt was his true destiny, which was rule the seas and to kill off its king, Aquaman.

The Story so Far: It’s undocumented as exactly how Black Manta came to be. It’s believed he designed his suit and became very wealthy, possibly from sunken treasure he found himself, and managed to gain his own army, equipment, weapons, and ships so that he could fulfill his goals on ruling Atlantis. Taking up the name Black Manta, he and his army would find themselves in frequent battles with Aquaman. Black Manta would also find himself becoming more of a serious threat for not only Aquaman, but for Atlantis, and it’s other occasional rulers, Namor, Attuma and Ocean Master as well. It was also said that sometime in the past, before Black Manta met Aquaman, he encountered the people of Mera's dimension.

However, the true reason for the hatred that Black Manta and Aquaman share was due to Aquaman mistakenly killing Manta's father (intending to kill Black Manta) while seeking vengeance for the death of Arthur's father following an attack by Black Manta.

Their battles have only intensified over the years and a new factor was added when Manta’s son, Jackson, now known as Aqualad was located by Siren and Xebel strike force. It was learned that their experiments with Black Manta years ago produced him and both wanted to “terminate the experiment” but were stopped by Aquaman and Mera.

Characterization: Black Manta is one of the most ruthless and dangerous villains on the planet, being single minded of focus and a strong combatant, both on land and sea.

Friends and Foes: He occasionally employees henchmen known as Manta Men and he sometimes makes alliances out of convenience but by and large his only goal is destroying his hated enemy, Aquaman.

He'll job in the end, but for an AIM Scientist Supreme, he's been pretty bad ass so far.

ANDREW FORSON
PL: 10 (150 pts) - OPL: 10 ; DPL: 10

ADVANTAGES: Benefit (5) (Status 4 – Scientist Supreme of AIM, Diplomatic Immunity), Inventor, Languages (2) (Spanish, 4 others, Base: English), Leadership, Ranged Attack (5), Skill Mastery (1) (Expertise [Science]), Speed of Thought*

POWERS:
Enhanced Evil Beekeeper Costume: 6 pts Traits, Removable (-1 pt); 5 pts
Body Armor: Protection 6; 6 pts
A.I.M. Tech: 32 pts Traits, Easily Removable (-12 pts); 20 pts
[i]Tech Gadgets: Variable 4 (20 pts Traits; Technological descriptor, Extra: Action [Move Action]); 32 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +7
Close Attack +6 [Unarmed +2]
Ranged Attack +8

DEFENSES:
Dodge +8 [DC18] Parry +8 [DC18]
Toughness +8 (+2 without Defensive Roll), Fortitude +8, Will +10

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: SHIELD and The Avengers are just waiting for an opportunity to take him and AIM out.
Motivation: Making AIM into the world power they have always aspired to be and he seems to be well on his way.

Abilities 62 + Skills 27 (54 ranks) + Advantages 16 + Powers 25 + Defenses 20 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: All the while Infinity was going on, Hickman was building up A.I.M. in the background to make them a true threat. Andrew Forson is the current Scientist Supreme and he has been making big things happen for them. They now have their own island and legit sovereign status, they’ve installed a high council including Graviton, Jude the Entropic Man, Yelena Belova and other name characters and he’s apparently used a localized time speeding up thingy to advance them into a technologically superior empire that the Avengers will have to deal with. I love it when the jobbers get some time in the sun.

This is mostly a wiki fueled guess build, especially knowing that he underwent some secret experiment that will give him some plot device power when Hickman needs it.

Secret Origins: Nothing is known of Forson’s past before he joined A.I.M. All that is known is that he rose through the ranks quickly and is now their Scientist Supreme.

The Story so Far: Andrew Forson was the Scientist Supreme of A.I.M. after the organization became public and established their base in the, now sovereign, island Barbuda, and overthrew The Wizard with consent of the rest of A.I.M.. After he decided to be the test subject of a mysterious procedure which proved a success, he formed a new High Council of A.I.M..

He later prompted a conflict with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Secret Avengers during a military expo and used the confusion of the scene to steal the Iron Patriot Armor. The armor was replicated and its low-level A.I. was grown considerably, creating an army of sentient drones which A.I.M. used to incriminate the United States in numerous international attacks. Acting S.H.I.E.L.D. director Daisy Johnson appointed the Secret Avengers with the task of killing Forson, and they seemingly succeeded.

But after Johnson was suspended for breaking the protocols, as Forson was the leader of a U.N. member nation, the Scientist Supreme of A.I.M. was revealed to be alive, along with the news of A.I.M. being a new permanent member of the Security Council.

Using an unknown device, Forson accelerated the flow of time in the limits of the A.I.M. Island, creating in a matter of hours for the real world years of progress and transforming A.I.M. into a technologically advanced empire.

Characterization: Forson is a brilliant and driven man who seems to be on his way to making A.I.M. into the world power that they have always dreamed of being.

Friends and Foes: He has garnered the respect of the members of the High Council and his become a prime target for the Avengers, Justice League and Stormwatch as they wait for him to cross a line that will allow them to take him down.

COMPLICATIONS:

Abilities 36 + Skills 15 (30 ranks) + Advantages 5 + Powers 18 + Defenses 19 = 93 / 93

Build Comments: Old Lester here has been a DC jobber for a good while until he finally got whacked right before the New 52 by the crazed Arsenal (man, they f’d Roy up good after Cry for Justice, didn’t they?). He always sucked quite a bit but I like his Arkham Origins reboot so I figure he’s worth a stat.

Secret Origins: Lester Buchinsky's unnamed brother was the first Electrocutioner. The second Electrocutioner used a costume rigged to generate a lethal electrical shock against criminals and ran afoul of Batman, who disapproved of his extreme justice. He was later killed by Vigilante (Adrian Chase). Initially working in the cause of justice just like the first Electrocutioner, Lester Buchinsky became a criminal and mercenary.

The Story so Far: Overly reliant on his ability to generate electricity, the Electrocutioner has faced, and been defeated by Batman, Robin, and Nightwing, among many other heroes. In at least one scheme, working with the Cluemaster to steal an armored car full of money, Spoiler worked to oppose him. Ironically, Spoiler would prove to be Cluemaster's daughter. The stupidity of Lester's second partner, a hulking brute with delusions of intelligence, would also hamper their plans. For a time, Lester was frequently seen in the employ of Blüdhaven crime boss Blockbuster. He remains at large.

Characterization: Lester is your basic super-powered thug.

Friends and Foes: Despite his many defeats at their hands, he seems to continually want to fight the Bat Family, who continue to defeat him.

Our Villains Line continues to grow with this new item for Aisle 1!

If I have any other names, talents or traits, I have long forgotten them. And although I recall - vaguely recall - the first man I killed, the hundreds of thousands that followed him to the grave are more a blur. - Steppenwolf

STEPPENWOLF
PL: 14 (198 pts) - OPL: 14 ; DPL: 14

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 10, STAMINA 10, AGILITY 6, DEXTERITY 5, FIGHTING 14, INTELLECT 2, AWARENESS 4, PRESENCE 3

SKILLS: Athletics 3 (+13), Deception 4 (+7), Expertise [Military] 13 (+15), Insight 6 (+10) [Assessment], Intimidation 8 (+11), Perception 5 (+9), Persuasion 4 (+7), Stealth 3 (+9), Technology 3 (+5), Vehicles 3 (+8)

ADVANTAGES: All-Out Attack, Assessment, Benefit (2) (Status 2 – General of Darkseid’s armies), Defensive Attack, Diehard, Improved Disarm, Improved Initiative (1), Improved Smash, Leadership, Power Attack, Ranged Attack (5), Takedown (2)

POWERS:
New God Physiology: Protection 2, Regeneration 2 (1/every 5 rounds); 4 pts
Immortal: Immunity 2 (Aging, Terrestrial Diseases); 2 pts
Apokoliptian War Armor: 14 pts Traits, Removable (-3 pts); 11 pts
Body Armor: Protection 2, Impervious 6; 14 pts
Electro-Blades 16 pts Traits, Easily Removable (-6 pts); 10 pts
Electro-Axe/Electro-Sword: Slashing Strength-based Damage 4 (Extra: Dangerous, Penetrating 10, Split); 16 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +10
Close Attack +14 [Unarmed +10; Electro-Blades +14, Critical 19-20]
Ranged Attack +10

DEFENSES:
Dodge +13 [DC23] Parry +14 [DC24]
Toughness +14 (+6 Impervious), Fortitude +13, Will +13

COMPLICATIONS:
Motivation: Steppenwolf lives for war and combat.
Relationships: He is Darkseid's uncle, which, most of the time, curries him a bit of favor with the Lord of Apokolips.
Responsibility: To Darkseid.
Vulnerable: All of the New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 108 + Skills 26 (52 ranks) + Advantages 18 + Powers 27 + Defenses 19 = 198 / 198

Build Comments: My take on Steppenwolf is a the look of the New 52 version with the background of the classic. He’s been bad ass in Earth-2. His New 52 background would require a massive world invasion by Darkseid and that hasn’t happened on my Earth. Yet…

No cable thingy, we’re going with those dual blades that he slew Diana with and mad combat skills. He feels more worthy to help Darkseid conquer now.

Secret Origins: Steppenwolf was the brother of Heggra and commander of Apokolips's military during her reign and previously that of her husband Yuga Khan.

The Story so Far: Her son, Darkseid, sent Steppenwolf to New Genesis, where he killed Izaya's wife. Izaya, in revenge, killed him in the ensuing war between the two planets.

However, he was resurrected, and Darkseid once again put him command of the military.

Characterization: Steppenwolf is a highly talented military leader. He has served as the head of Apokolips' armed forces, and when going into battle personally often commands units of the dog cavalry.

Friends and Foes: He is loyal to Darkseid.

NONE,

OFFENSE:
Initiative +2
Close Attack +10 [Unarmed +14; Beta-Club +14]
Ranged Attack +2
Blast +9 [Beta-Club Blast +15]
Special Attack [Pain Beam +10, Cone Area]

DEFENSES:
Dodge +8 [DC18] Parry +9 [DC19]
Toughness +15 (+6 Impervious), Fortitude +14, Will +6

COMPLICATIONS:
Inferiority Complex: Kalibak knows that Darkseid favors Orion over him and he constantly tries to gain his father's favor.
Vulnerable: All of the New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 70 + Skills 12 (24 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 49 + Defenses 14 = 151 / 151

Build Comments: Good old Kalibak. Jobber to the big hitters. He can lay waste to a team of PL10 heroes, but usually gets his butt handed to him by guys like Orion and Superman. And really indispensable as someone for Darkseid to yell at when his plans fail.

Secret Origins: Kalibak is the first-born son of Darkseid and Suli. His mother Suli is killed by Desaad, acting under orders from Kalibak's grandmother Queen Heggra. Kalibak becomes a legendary warrior, and often serves as Darkseid's second-in-command.

The Story so Far: After Darkseid breaks the pact of peace with New Genesis, the rival planet of Kalibak's home Apokolips, he aids his father in the resulting battles.

Kalibak is often pitted against Orion, and after numerous clashes they learned that they were half-brothers. This fuels Kalibak's hatred of Orion to new levels, for Darkseid clearly values Orion over his first-born.

At one point, Kalibak is desperate enough to confront Orion without Darkseid's consent. Kalibak's scheme fell apart, and he kills his accomplice Desaad, also a servant of Darkseid, to cover his tracks. Darkseid was not pleased when he finds out, and he reduces his son to a pile of ash. After enough time had passed Darkseid resurrects Kalibak, hoping the boy had learned a lesson.

Kalibak later spends some time in an Apokolips prison, on Darkseid's orders. Darkseid is on Earth when Orion invades Apokolips. Justeen, a servant of Desaad, releases Kalibak to battle Orion yet again. Kalibak is swiftly subdued, but doesn't care much as Orion leaves to battle Darkseid and Kalibak hopes to gain power as a result.

Characterization: Kalibak is not a bright, but a powerful and vicious warrior.

Friends and Foes: He has a great jealousy of Orion and also longs to defeat Superman.

Nice stuff! If they ever do another Amalgam or Marvel (vs) DC event, they need to have Steppenwolf team up with Mellencamp of the Acolytes. The pop culture jokes write themselves :).

I had no idea he was supposed to be that tough, either- most of the evil New Gods look like losers, so it's easy to THINK of them as losers.

Cool Forson, too- A.I.M. keeps showing up in the background of the Avengers' books, and even get a few whole issues of focus here or there, but they're STILL on the undercurrent of the main storyline so it's hard to see what's going on (especially since Hickman NEVER FREAKING EXPLAINS ANYTHING). I had no idea the A.I.M. Council included those guys (I mean, GRAVITON? That's your top-tier right there)- all I remember is the top dog there (who I don't remember even getting a name), plus Superia.

Yeah, the fact A.I.M. is getting respect is weird for me. A.I.M. always seemed like the people you brought in because Hydra was too busy and anyone else you could use in the role (The Secret Empire, the Corporation, Sons of the Serpent, etc.) are just too dang obscure.

The way I see it, HYDRA are the guys if you want something blown up. AIM are the guys you call if you want to build something that blows something up.

And you call the Sons of the Serpent if you need someone to point and laugh at. Seriously have those guys ever been even a remote threat?
