i run scenes and challenges where they still use those skills. the swimmer uses the skill ranks to maintain speed and accuracy in rough seas. the climber has to help someone else climb a slope, telling them or showingthem how to do the rapelling or the pitoning and so forth. the acrobat in a wheel c...

My issue with the way this works in 2e is the piercing of the "ilusion of a game". In MnM, while tyey do other things too... hero/villain points are hit points. they give you some coverage the first few times you both the toughness save or other save. once they are gone, you will probably go down so...

by the by, if you wanted to represent the casual strength mechanically... could you buy some superstrength, say at half your normal super strength level, and apply the aura effect (or buy aura for superstrength however that is done now) and Flaw (drawbacks?) it down to only working against grapples ...

BTW, one of the things i liked in 1e was the lack of long term boost. letting boost be shortterm only and letting you buy the powers that will be "often available" due to long term adjustments as they are works well, IMO. I know in HERO i found the scores more reasonable when i skipped the aid and j...

Stares baffled at the screen...

if total fade is an extra primarily because of its potency when used in combo with slow fade, why isn't slow fade an extra primarily because of its potency when used in conjunction with total fade?

the numbers are based on defense levels proximate with the attack strength. IIRC when i originally ran the numbers it was for +10 attacks against +13 defenses (counting in +3 con and a +10 defense power) basically, against proximate defenses, the value is two 10's gets you a 15, a little less. you a...
Not really when two save are required the effects are obviously dissimilar (otherwise they wouldn't have different saves) of course, but why do we need to allow two powers linked which have such dissimilar effects? Why not ban them too? answer: "to accurately..." etc... Do you mean mechanic...

i agree with you on that. when i first read Linked i assumed it meant two of the same power , not two of the same effect type. and i would have very little problem with that. although, IMO, a preferable solution would be to NOT disallow it at all, and instead provide a workable "how this equates fo...

Let's break this down to basics then. Please answer this question as concisely as possible: "What purpose does having two attack saves (of the same type) serve?" I imagine this is the same answer as to the question "What purpose does having two attack saves of different types serve?" For me it is s...

While i wait for answers above... Another query on power types and the rationale behind them Dazzle is a power which reaches out and shuts down an enemy's senses, and thus is a sensory power. got it! Snare is a power that reaches out and shuts down an enemy's movement, so is it a movement power? Mig...

You may not like the guideline and want to throw it out but it is a reasonable and rational guideline designed to encourage a variety of effects and dynamic combat. now i am confused since i dont get how any of this encourages dynamic combat. But let me ask a "guy who doesn't have the book" questio...

yeah he was, two saves for the price of one attack roll, seems broken to me, especially if it is the same save. Yet in 2e this notion of two saves for one attack roll is fine, but only for dazzle when combined with something else. heck, as far as i can tell, you can even link dazzle to another atta...

An autofire grenade launcher is just resolved as a single area attack, possibly with increased power and/or area. Nothing says an 'area attack' has to be a single shot (I've implemented autofire attacks as area attacks in the past). cool, but, by the same token, shouldn't we get ruid of autofire fo...
1. Frankly, for the most part, I don't consider very high end SS and Flight all that useful. There are only specialized situations where you will actually find 1000 MPH+ flight necessary, or even to do anything lower flight wouldn't (it certainly is meaningless tactically unless you're in a...

Actually Paragon, see if this may get you to reconsider your view slightly. You are very correct that the core system in MnM emphasizes versatility, especially with HERO pt expenditure for gaining "related powers", is considered. But looking at the hero pt thing doesn't cause me any great concern si...
